1. Hello, Putting out a feeler... Looking to sell my 1964 Hofner 182. This is a solid body Hofner bass, featuring the same staple pickups and control plate as the considerably more expensive violin basses from the same era. The bass is in good vintage condition - all electronics work perfectly and the pickups sounds fantastic. There is some light checking front and back, as well as some small knocks and chips peppered around. The larger chips I have tried to show in the photos. Obviously none of this effects the playability of the bass at all, and considering it's age it's in pretty good nick. As far as I can tell, all parts are original. It's a little shortscale bass (seriously not that much taller than a Fender Strat) and it's loads of fun to play. Tone wise it's actually pretty versatile. The neck pickup gives you loads of vintage low end thump, whilst the bridge pickup really adds some clarity and definition - managing to avoid the somewhat muddy sounds that some vintage instruments have. The bass is currently strung with some very old roundwounds and sounds great with a pick. 60's Hofner's are sometimes tricky to accurately date as they didn't print clear serial numbers on their instruments until later on, but using the pot codes (454) I have dated it to the 45th week of 1964 (http://www.vintageho...te/potcode.html). Lots of photos below, and please feel free to ask any questions. I live near Bristol and you are welcome to come and try the bass out. Collection preferred but happy to talk options - the thought of shipping something this old makes me nervous! Comes in what I believe to be the original hardcase - a little tatty but works just fine! Thanks, Chris. 2. Hello, I bought this double bass just under a year ago and I would love to know some more information about it! The chap I bought it from had it for years and reckons it was made in the 1960's in Czechoslovakia. And that's really all the information I have. So I'm wondering whether this is correct, and if so was it manufactured by a particular company? Is it a particularly common bass? Is it indeed from the 60's? I have no intention of selling the bass, this is purely out of curiosity. I've attached some photos below showing some markings inside the body of the bass, as well as a sticker that's on the fingerboard. Any information would be much appreciated! Cheers, Chris. 4. Pretty sure it's not twisted - actually took the string off and restrung it with a different one with no luck.
5. Hello, I have a Fender Precision bass that has started acting up and I am looking for help. I am getting some serious fret buzz around frets 10-15 on the G string. All other strings are fine. I have tried fiddling with the string height - no change. I have tried adjusting the truss rod - no change. The bass had some buzz around the 12th fret of the G string anyway, but I have recently changed the bridge (from the stock Fender high mass to the more traditional Fender design) and since then it has been worse. This made me think it may have been a string height thing, but even with the strings jacked right up I am still getting the buzz. I've checked for rattling parts / nut buzz etc and it's not that. Definitely coming from the frets. Any help would be much appreciated!
6. Hi everyone, Finally got around to writing another article for Jamerson Analysed. This time I'm taking a closer look at the Four Tops hit 'Reach Out I'll Be There'. Enjoy! Chris. www.jamersonanalysed.co.uk
7. Just replied to your message! And only selling as i use a different amp for gigging nowadays and need to fund a double bass.
8.
I've got one of these, and it's a cracking amp with the original valves anyway - so any improvement in that area, and this is a bargain price. It's a seriously good amp - lovely warm tones and great control / tonal options. Nice & lightweight too GLWTS
Thanks Mark. You heard the man! Drop me a message if you're interested in a great, lightweight versatile amp.
9. Friday bump. Don't miss out on a cracking amp. Make me an offer!
10.
This is a bargain with the lower gain valves - I love mine but it does indeed go to super high gain immediately, so I'm tempted to try swapping too! Have a bump and GLWTS.

I love my OTB and have swapped the hi-gain valves to Mullards. Would recommend highly!
Cheers! Someone is going to love this amp. Now £350 collected - bargain!
11. WITHDRAWN. Price drop - £350 collected or can post at buyers expense. Hello, For sale is my Orange Terror Bass 500. I've owned this amp for around four years and it's served me very well - a real workhorse of an amp. This thing is LOUD. Kicks out 500w and can run at either 4 or 8 ohms, which is really handy for cab flexibility. Really great full warm Orange tone in a very small package. The valves that this shipped with were very high gain and low quality, so I have replaced them with some lower gain NOS 12AT7's (Phillips 12AT7WA and a RFT ECC81). This has warmed up the sound - giving a great old school valve warmth, more clean headroom to the amp and tamed the otherwise loud DI. Included is the original case for the amp, as well as a speakon cable and power supply. The only minor thing is the light sometimes does not turn on when the amp is powered up - no idea why this happens, and it can be solved by tapping the light. Might be a loose connection to the bulb or something. This does not affect the use of the amp at all, it is purely cosmetic. The amp still powers up and runs fine. Other than that, it's just some very minor wear and tear from a few years of gigging. I've used this for live and studio work, and it's been great. A cracking little amp that deserves a new home! Based in between Bath and Bristol. Happy to ship at buyers expense and can meet up as long as it's not too far. If you're local, I'm more than happy for you to come and try it our for yourself. Any questions, get in touch. Thanks, Chris. 13. Hello, Here we have some vintage Philips Jan 5751 ECG ECC83 - 12AX7 equivalent pre amp tubes. They are essentially lower gain 12AX7's, and can be swapped out for a 12AX7 tube in a preamp section of an amp or a pedal. I had these in a bass amp for a few weeks before selling the amp on, so they are only very lightly used. They were New Old Stock when bought, and are vintage. They don't make them like this anymore! Looking for £20 per valve but will accept £50 if you buy all three. Based between Bath and Bristol but happy to post. Please get in touch if you have any questions. Chris.

15. Hello mate, Interested in this amp.Where in the UK are you based? Cheers.
16. Thanks everyone, appreciate the help. And I agree - worth restoring such a great amp.
17.
Has the previous owner disconnected the heater wires?
I have no idea - is this something I can easily check or a job for a tech?
18. Hello, I was just wondering if someone here can explain the situation I am in. So I have a 1970 Ampeg B15. Works brilliantly. When I bought it, it had a rather dodgy looking homemade solid state rectifier that someone had fashioned out of a couple of diodes and an old valve socket. It worked fine, but I was advised by a tech so either swap it out for a proper solid state rectifier, or switch back to a valve rectifier - the logic being that they should be interchangeable as the rest of the amp had not been modified in any way, and the exposed diodes could be dangerous. So, I bought both a solid state rectifier (http://www.hotroxuk.com/solid-state-rectifier-ssr.html) and a 5AR4 Valve (http://www.hotroxuk.com/tad-gz34-5ar4-str-premium-select-rt501.html) The solid state works perfectly and sounds great, but the valve does nothing - the amp is just silent. I sent back to valve to HotRox to have it tested, and it came back fine. It is a fully working valve. So my question is, any idea why I get no sound from the when using the rectifier valve? Many thanks in advance, Chris.
19. Hello, For sale is a Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive pedal. This has been well gigged, fully working but not cosmetically perfect. The gain knob is slightly wonky (shown in pictures), but this does not affect the use of the pedal at all. Any questions, feel free to ask. Price is £35 for collection from just outside of Bristol, or £40 posted. Thanks, Chris.
20.
An easy fix is to place a couple of strips of business card between the top of the bobbin and the pickup cover. I had the same problem with a set of custom shop 60 J pickups.
Thank you for this - now sorted!
