1. I'm completely happy with my rig.
Finally a bass i've always wanted (and one that actually lives up to expectations too)
A tiny amp and speaker that has a myriad of excellent sounds, fills the room and is incredibly simple to use

Don't think i'll be buying another bass for a few years now, might consider swapping one of my others
Definitely won't sell any part of my rig and am consistently impressed with it from gig to gig

2. My houstmate has decided to pack in playing bass and has asked me to sell his Musicman SUB active 4 string for him.

It's the one in the bluey colour and is in excellent condition.

He's never gigged with it and in fact has hardly played it. I borrowed it for 2-3 gigs when my Warwick developed a fault, in fact it's only on it's second set of strings!

It has some pitting on the crescent control plate and a tiny ding on the headstock (which has been coloured so not noticeable). Think the pitting came from being left in the case for months.

It comes in a gator style hard case which he paid £70 for.

I don't know what the going rate for these is but one just went on ebay for over £450 so he'd be looking for over £400 for a quick sale.

I'll get some pics up (it's at his folks' at the moment) and get a definite price once i speak to him

Ta!

3. All quality information, thanks again!
Think i'll try the half rounds and see if i like em. Don't think i'd coat the fingerboard on this bass, i'm considering it on my other fretless as it's always gonna be my "try it out" bass. I guess that's a different thread though and there's probably a wealth of information on this site already so i'll get searching!

4.
Point 1 - Imagine you've spotted something tasty on ebay, ideally something that has been listed in an incorrect category or with a misspelling in the title that won't show up in a search (ie instead of Fender - Gender etc), you are watching it with the intention of sniping a bid at the last minute and picking up a bargain. Lo-and-behold someone on this forum comes on shouting about this 'potential bargain'... you aren't going to particularly impressed now that the bass playing community know about it and no doubt a few people will take a punt on it, thereby bumping the price. Flagging a normal auction 'bargain' that you've spotted is NOT particularly conducive to getting a bargain :)

Point 2 - They are meant to be quite uncoloured (odd that they are described as 'warm' then  ) and they are certainly small, light and portable. WoT used the big brother of one of these with various preamp pedals and it sounded pretty good to me.
If something's got a really cheap BIN it's fair game though? In that situation i'd rather someone off here bagged it, spread the love an all that!

5. My Warwick Corvette is my back up. It used to be my main bass but since the acquisition of my Zoot it's been relegated to the back of the stage. I don't actually need it but can't part with it as it was my first "proper" bass and i've done hundreds of gigs with it.
Still use it as my main bass at some of the more unsavoury venues we play :)

Edited for morning-after-the-gig typos!

6.
I still say try halfs - I use Status Hotwires. Fretless vibrato can be played classical style by rolling your fingers up and down the string rather than bending.
Ok, think i'll try em. Cheers dudes!

7.
I'd have to have a look, yeah thanks for the replies fellas, i have to say I'm not unhappy cos it is a fabulous sound bass so as you rightly point out, value is very personal cheers
Corvettes have always been a cracking bass for the money. There was a 5 on ebay recently that had an amazingly figured body and went for more than the usual. If you're happy with it then it's a good buy!

8.
Would you buy an Aston and drive it sedately or leave it in the garage for fear of getting stone chips on it ?
Defeats the object of buying it in the first place.
Try roundwounds and see if the sound is what you want, if it is just enjoy playing it.
Wear will depend on how much you use it and how aggressive your style is.
I think Pino Palladino went through 4 fretboards on his Musicman bass.
In the ideal world this is what i'd do! However can't afford to have work done on a bass which i don't gig with. I'd love to replace the fretboard every time it's needed but don't have the funds! I'm looking for a similar sound but without the ballache of replacing the fingerboard when needed!
I bought the bass cos it was extremely cheap (£335 with gator case), i already have a fretless with rounds on (and usa fender electrics) which sounds awesome, just want to get the same feel from my warmoth without ruining it!
I don't think my fretless style is too aggressive but my other fretless is already worn (rosewood board), so want to safeguard this one a bit.

Anyone here use rounds with pau ferro?

9. I take it opt for the centre line means directly below the string?
I tend to use horizontal and vertical vibrato on fretless (if that makes sense), whichever is quickest to execute and sounds better in the given situation. I tried the elitels nickels on fretted and didn't like them but don't know how good they'd sound on fretless. Can anyone reccommend any brands?
Alternatively is there a brand of rounds that maybe have thinner coils, or that aren't as rough? I guess they wouldn't grind the board down too much.

Is pau ferro hard enough to withstand rounds or is ebony the only viable solution?

10. Hi all
I've had my Warmoth fretless for a while now and have a hankering to string it with roundwounds.
It's a lovely bass and sounds top with flats on but i find myself playing my jaco copy instead because i prefer the sound and feel of rounds.

However i'm a bit hesitant because of possible wear and tear on the fretboard. It's a realy pretty piece of pau ferro and wouldn't want it churned up!

Anyone know how durable pau ferro is with rounds?
Maybe there is a brand that is kinder to fretless fingerboards?

Any help is much appreciated!

11.
No thats mine, which i have had for sale on here for a few weeks with no luck...i dont think i will be lucky enough to get 2 bidders again like the one mentioned..but IMO i am not too sure about the bidding on the other one just running away like that, seemed a bit iffy to me as already mentioned...but of course may be wrong
Small world!

12. There's one on now for BIN £995. Not the same one is it?

13. As everyone else has said, it depends on the electronics. If it's got a decent pre in it and good pickups then it's a good amount of bass for the money. I remember shortly after i bought my corvette standard 4 (for £598 new) i saw the same bass on sale for £530, still thought i'd got a good deal though. What electronics are in it, and did you get the old ones with it? (you could sell those on).

14. The main instrument i play around the house is my classical. I have a nice Art et Lutherie acoustic too but always prefer the classical. My main instrument is by far the bass but i love self-accompaniment on a nylon string guitar.
Plus it's funny when a guitarist gives you a guitar and finds out you actually have a lot more understanding of it than they do! :)

15.
+1 for trades of relative value.

My sister frequently goes into Primark or wherever, spunks a load of cash on clothes and then promptly returns it all for a refund. Her logic is that she has satisfied the part of a woman's brain that needs to spend money unneccesarily and can therefore return the goods.

I was thinking that an idea along similar lines would be temporary swaps. For example, person A is GASsing for a P -bass whilst person B is gassing for, I don;t know, a lightweight combo. Said basschatters arrange a swap for a few weeks. In all likelihood, person A decides that actually he doesn;t really use a P bass, returns it to it's rightful owner collects lightweight rig and all is well, for a few weeks at least.
Why don't primark sell basses?

This has been hanging around for ages, apparently a fretless bass body! :)

When you think about it, all bass bodies are fretless really............
