1.
great news, glad you got it sorted, out of interest did you buy the valve through Ashdown or from somewhere else? just incase i have any future issues etc with mine?
This is the one I bought, Ashdown recommended JJ valves so I figured that was a good place to start. It was ordered on Friday and arrived today so very impressed. http://valvetubeguitaramps.com/product/jj-ecc83s-preamp-valve/?gclid=CjwKEAjwv8iwBRC35-_e8aPqwCESJAB8khP9SAXptplM6ulGAgqB3DKAJWpVKjDhuXLNfRjRYuwA2RoC_ybw_wcB
2. So, new valve was waiting for me when I got home from work. Just fitted it and all good! Working like a dream! Thanks to all for your help and advice.
3. It's been a while but finally have it sanded down. Just needs a little filler here and there and then it's ready to paint. Have found a product called 'Brass Black' which will turn the saddles black if I want to do that so that opens up colour options for the body. I will post more pics when I have more progress.
4.
Burgess Hill, just 15 minutes inland from Brighton.
Shame, too far for me.
5. Thanks for all your replies. I mailed Ashdown and they were super quick to come back. They think that the drive pot could be damaged. I'm going to try a replacement valve 1st and see how that goes before I send it in for repair though.
6. I have had it about 2 months, I don't know how long the guy I bought from had it for. It is in a flight case and in very good nick though so assume it has been well looked after. Any recommendations on a replacement valve?
7. I just popped it open and had a look. The valve had possibly come unseated a little. I pushed it back in but still no joy. Should it light up when the drive is engaged? Because it didn't.
8. Ok, cool. I haven't had the ABM long and just remember my MAG head having screws on the bottom. I will take a look when I get home.
9. Thanks for your responses. It is worth having a look before I take it in for repair. How do you open these up? Is it just a case of undoing the 4 screws on the bottom and pulling the unit out of the case?
10. Hi all, I have an Ashdown ABM 500 I am having a bit of trouble with. When I turn on the drive section and try to crank the drive up to 'grind' it gets quieter until the volume goes completely when turned fully to the right. Any Ashdown owners out there ever had this problem? Cheers Steve
11. Gold and black does look sweet! I'm still undecided on the brass saddles though. Is there any paint that would withstand strings being pulled through them?
12.
Here you go! It's getting a bit too shiny for my tastes on the back of the neck and where my forearm rubs against the body. At some point it will be "re-matted"!
Very nice! I bet it sounds killer too!
13.
Another matt finish here. Fingerprints not an issue:
Saw this in another thread, killer bass!
14.
I've made theee changes to the bass since putting the new scratchplate on, and feel it has come together nicely. Can anyone spot what the three changes are?
Awesome job!
15.
My ACG 7 custom has a Matt black finish pretty much: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0090-recurve-sc-s-type-7-string-lh/ As you can see it looks awesome.
Sweet!
16.
I Have a matt black bass. Fingerprints aren't a problem. However after 10+ years the matt finish has evolved into a satin in various places where it is being polished by my playing.
I imagine that looks quite good though? I like natural wear like that. Do you have any pics?
17. I love that finish! Probably going to go down that road!
18. Hi all, Does anyone here have a bass with a matt finish? I am in the process of doing one of my old basses up and am thinking of a matt black/dark grey finish. Any issues? I'm thinking it may be a fingerprint magnet!!
19.
At a guesstimate the £36+VAT sounds pretty keenly priced to me for a 'one off' - well 'four off' I guess.
I agree, I think that's as cheap as it's going to get!
20. Just noticed that doesn't include VAT
21. It is purely aesthetic. I am restoring a bass I had years ago and I lost one of the original saddles. I want keep the original bridge as it is strung through the body but not in a straight line so an unusual configuration. The bass is an epiphone from the 80s and the only matching bridge I could find was chrome with brass saddles. The brass saddles kind of limit my choices of body colour to an extent so I want to make them chrome.
22. Hi all, I am considering chrome plating some brass bridge saddles. Is this expensive to do? Cheers
