More photos as threatened . . .

These get a good rep and rightly so. Bit of a prob with this one's neck though hence the low price.

It's developed a bit of a ski jump as it nears the body and I can't adjust it out.

I like a low action which I've achieved up to the 12th fret, above which I rarely venture. But beyond that is not good.

Maybe it's fixable or maybe you don't mind a higher action which may be OK (no guarantees either way though I'm afraid).

Marks to the body commensurate with age and use. Weighs in at a reasonable 3.9 Kg (8.6lbs).

Collection from sunny Skipton or I could meet you part way, up to 40 mins or so.

Might be able to post later in the week but can't commit to that just now.

Had a PM about the nut area so adding some additional photos taken in what passed for natural light earlier this morning.

While I’m writing, I recently noticed a slight flaw on the back of the neck. There’s a small black mark below the skunk stripe around the 6th fret area. It appears to be below the lacquer so I presume it was introduced during the manufacturing process. You can’t feel it at all and, as I say, I’ve only just noticed it.

When I bought this from PMT they had just put 2 of these out. I tried both and this was the better one. Hard to describe why but it just felt right. Not saying it’s the best VM77 in the world but it seems like they can vary a bit.

I’ve now got this listed “elsewhere” as they had a £1 offer on however I’d much sooner it go to a fellow bc-er so please let me know if interested. And I am happy to meet you a reasonable distance from Skipton.

I was looking for something light weight and this meets that criteria perfectly but at the end of the day I’m just not a Jazz bass person.

I’m not looking for perfection, the rest of the bass has picked up plenty of battle scars.

I just want to stop that particular area deteriorating much further if I  can.

The bass is a Highway One with it’s famed “satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish”.

I think I may have incorrectly interpreted this as applying to the neck as well as the body.

Thanks for that. I had heard that poly over nitro wasn’t such a good idea though.

My recently acquired Precision is nicely naturally road worn and I'm looking forward to that continuing. Except in one respect which I really do not want to get any worse.

There are a couple of areas of significant lacquer loss down to the bare wood accompanied by some long cracks and I fear I'm in danger of losing most of the original decal.

Please can anyone advise how I could best repair this? I'm not looking to get it back to mint condition, just to fix it up well to prevent any further deterioration.

Some folk swear by them, others don't. I fall into the latter category.

Anyway, I've just bought a Precision with a recently fitted set of the aforementioned .

I think they're Rotosound and I think they're 45s. Whatever, they're too good to throw away.

Change of plan as I was hoping to go to Love Supreme again this year but seeing my hero will go some way to make up for that.

I saw them a couple of years ago in Portsmouth. I managed to get close enough to the front to see that I had been playing Nice N Sleazy wrong all these years.

I'd been starting the familiar blues scale run down on the 4th fret of G as it made sense to my logical mind to not move my hand and play the A open. I should have thought less and listened more!

Very sad. There was concern over Ace's own health a couple of years ago and I feared the worse. That seems to have blown over now fortunately.

My daughter has just brought this to my attention. Hilarious! The possibilities are endless now . . .
