Vintage VJ74 Icon Series Jazz Style Bass Guitar
troubadour replied to troubadour's topic in Basses For Sale
It still technically belongs to me. But it's on commission sale at the Bass Gallery. Though in the 18 months they've had it they've never got round to listing it on their website. Or the Fender I took them around the same time. I was going to go and retrieve them but with the situation over the last year and all that. Anyway you could contact them if you like and see if they can do anything for you. -
+1 on liking the look of it. Watching the video the seller refers to, the pickguard is optional. Without it the pickups get chrome rings. So the routing is explained if not excused!
-
That is awesome. Can't wait for the video.

Protest songs that still hold up years later

Keith Christmas - Forest and the shore . . . . . . nearly 50 years old and every word rings true today. He's still going strong as well. Good on 'im! -
Another if anyone is looking . . . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Cowpoke-Precision-Bass-Special-Black-1995/133263588547?hash=item1f0720fcc3:g:jT0AAOSwiS9d6lkD . . . has "weird and wonderful" in the description!

It’s expensive but really nice.....
troubadour replied to vinorange's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Very, very nice. Light weight too if the 3.9 kg is to be believed. Some dings to bottom edge. Is it 2006 or 2014? And not sure why the vendor has described it as an Aerodyne - I normally associate those with a slabby body and P/J pickup configuration? -

Passed me by, but checks out. Quick Google of "Blackpoole Relic Works" comes up with some interesting results. Particularly the open letter on the Seymour Duncan site. Looks like he struggled to meet any kind of demand. So this would be a somewhat rare completed one.

Excellent strap just received, exactly as described and completely smooth and trouble free transaction. Thank you.

Vintage VJ74 Icon Series Jazz Style Bass Guitar
troubadour replied to troubadour's topic in Basses For Sale
I really do have no idea I’m afraid. I can’t see anything obviously amiss. It could just be high frets. It is otherwise a great bass and I’m enjoying playing it again. Just anyone wanting a low action all the way up the bottom strings may be disappointed. -
Silver Series 1992 Squier precision. £199.

Very fair I think. Am I missing something? -
Vintage VJ74 Icon Series Jazz Style Bass Guitar
troubadour replied to troubadour's topic in Basses For Sale
Thank you. It is still for sale. It has been on a bit of an adventure though! I had sold it on the well known auction site. I'd used it for band practice beforehand, had it set up nicely and was confident of its quality in all aspects. The new owner quickly informed me that he had fret buzz on A and E and wanted to return it. When I got it back I set it up to spec again and there was indeed some buzz on the E. So I've raised the action a tad higher on that string than I would ideally like. And I've used it for 2 more practices. It's still a fantastic bass but I don't know what to do now. I can't really charge full asking now I know there's something not perfect about it. If you are interested do please make me an offer. I'll even post it this time if needs be. -
Back up starting bid £1400 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Dolphin-Pro-1-5-String-Bass/202690286029?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20190212142712%26meid%3D37277d7d3f00409ea231844f574e3b28%26pid%3D100037%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D202689141122%26itm%3D202690286029&_trksid=p2047675.c100037.m2107 Interesting info about the pink panther theme bass line.

There is another book, Fender Bass for Britain . . . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Bass-for-Britain-The-History-of-the-1966-Slab-Bodied-Precision-Bass/382933872967?epid=1319999442&hash=item5928a33147:g:UIQAAOSw4uhczP2A . . . and, reading reviews of the latter on Amazon, maybe some “issues” between the two authors? Looks like there’s a story there as interesting as the one about the bass itself!

SOLD Tokai PB-60 Hard Puncher CAR Made in Japan 80's Light
troubadour replied to troubadour's topic in Basses For Sale
A lot of the Japanese copies of this era did certainly, but I don’t recall ever seeing a Tokai that said so. -
Oh that brings back so many memories. That combo and a Tokai Hard Puncher were the sum total of my equipment for much of the 1980s. Hard to believe but that 100W was more than sufficient for everywhere we played. Missing its Stingray and Carlsbro nameplates from the front otherwise I'd be tempted.

Paul Raymond, who sadly passed recently, on the back there . . . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-American-highway-one-Precision-Bass/264290409356?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3Daa66d91944e24e7fad0fcdc4832b9759%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D264290409356%26itm%3D264290409356&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Acc51bbce-632c-11e9-a9e4-74dbd180869b|parentrq%3A3935791516a0abc2ce1a7da7ffe6cd78|iid%3A1 . . . is it really a Highway One though - that logo, maple neck, string through body?

I think we all know about these so I'll spare the superlatives! To the best of my knowledge this one is all original. Apart from I've put new felt rings under the strap buttons (the old ones had disappeared) and it's sporting some Fender NPS 45 - 105 round wound strings. It does have some oxidisation to metalwork. And dings commensurate with its age and having lived a life. Difficult to photo close up so I'll describe where they are and maybe you can zoom in. head stock under E tuner (3mm) neck rear lower 1st fret (3mm) body front above tug bar to left and to right (1.5mm and 3mm) body front and bottom behind bridge (4 x 5mm) body rear above and to right of neck plate (10mm and 5mm) body rear under neck plate (buckle rash) body rear top right as you look at it (12mm) Bass weighs only 3.762 Kg (8.3 lbs). I zeroed the scales with the Sisley book on it so the bass would balance better in case you're wondering. Currently collection from Skipton only or I can meet you within a reasonable distance. Price is £600 and it does have to be £600 I'm afraid.

Vintage VJ74 Icon Series Jazz Style Bass Guitar. Absolute top quality parts and construction Condition is used but in excellent condition, little further road-wearing has taken place after that it came with. Bass weighs in at almost exactly 4 kg (8.8 lbs). Light for a Jazz. At the moment I am unable to ship so this has to be cash on collection from Skipton. However I am prepared to drive out a fair distance to meet you if needs be. [

Oh my goodness! That is truly, truly something to behold. I love the innovative use of a cable tie. Full marks for that.

This one’s keeping me awake . . . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-4-String-Precision-Type-Electric-bass-Guitar-Angled-Pointy-Headstock/372625779265?hash=item56c23a2a41:g:nqAAAOSwUPlciBCy . . . my best guess is an Accu Bass with some serious sandpaper applied, particularly to the top horn.
