Regardless of refin or not, £1359 is way too much for a 4001. Shop around and you should be able to pick on up for under 1k

I had to trawl the web, ebay, wherever. They're absurdly hard to get for some reason. The web store I used to get them from stopped supplying them, so it's usually on ebay now.

Pics added. String spacing at the bridge is 18.5mm, not too wide, not too narrow. This one was built in July 2002, still in great condition.

I love them. They're bright and stay bright for some time. They're especially good as a low B.

Since the last one was so much fun (and you don't get offered junk for good instruments here like a lot of other places ) I've decided to offer up another one of the clan, see if it takes anyone's fancy.

This is a hand made Japanese Bacchus Venus 5. It features a stunning bound slab ash body, 34" scale maple neck with a bound rosewood fretboard, no dots. I do believe it's nitro finished. Hardware is made by Gotoh and it's built like a tank. Bacchus pickups and pre, it's active, controls are vol-pan-treble-bass. It's got a modern jazz sound with a nice growl to it.

I bought this because I have a Bacchus Standard 5 and the idea was to defret it because I like the Standard so much. However, when it arrived I couldn't do it, to take a pliars to this would be a travesty. Much and all as I love this bass, I don't need two pretty identical 5 string Jazz, so I'm ready to move this one on.

Bacchus aren't really a secret anymore, these are the real deal top of the line basses. Their choice of wood is always spot on and everything has that touch of class about it. I'll put up more pics tomorrow. This bass comes with a Liteflight case.




I'll ship anywhere, I'm in Ireland, as is the bass. I'm looking to trade - a bass for a bass - rather than sell, ideally something different to a J bass, something along the lines of a 4 string Sterling would be of interest.

Had a 4003 for many years, sold it a couple of years ago. I've played a lot of basses and there is nothing else I have played that could capture that sound. You can get a bit close with a J but not close enough. Having said that, to me there is a big difference between the 4001 and 4003, the 4003 has a bit more growl to it, I definitely prefer the 4003 sound.

Silverfoxnik, thanks for the advice, I'm not 100% about this, it's a great bass, but at this time I'm just looking for something different, I'd like to see what else is out there.

I'm thinking about moving my 77 Jazz on... I'm kinda on the lookout for something active, more contemporary sounding, just thought I'd put the feelers out and see what turns up, preferably 4's, maybe 5's, not interested in 6's or above.

It's all original except for the strap buttons, h/c too. It's in great condition for a 31 year old bass, there's life left in the frets and it's got some serious low end to go with that 70's pickup spacing funk.

The bass is in Ireland, though I'll consider shipping it anywhere for the right bass, so feel free to talk to me.

I just sold my 6, but I used to use Dean Markley SR2000 strings on it. Tried D'Addario, Rotosound, Elixir and more, none of them were any use compared to the SR2000.

www.guitarjapan.com is a good place to deal with. They deal in US dollars, so now is the time. I bought a Woodline P Classic from them and, shipping and taxes included, it cost just a little more than a Mexican P in the shops here. Nuts.

Over here, import duty for musical instruments is about 4% of the cost of the instrument plus shipping and then they add 21% VAT - I think it's less for you fellas in the UK.

The model is a Woodline P Classic, it's discontinued, they only made them for 2007 but there are still a few knocking around, there's a white one on ebay for an absurdly low price. It's a great bass, it sounds like you think a P should sound in your head.

Plus, the side dots glow in the dark!

I've added a bridge cover to it, now it really looks the business, must take a pic.

I first came across Bacchus having a sniff around Ishibashi's u-box. The black one below, fairly beaten up but something about it intrigued me. For the price it was worth a gamble. If only I'd known then that I'd end up selling most of the rest of my gear to get it's Bacchus equivalent, things might be different.

They're simple basses, just very well made and each one has its own sound.
