  1. Fyi, just received a nice email from 'yorks5stringer' Keith's widow, Anna, thanking us for what we've done:

    "Hi Guys

I was just saying to Loren that I hadn't heard from you since Sunday and she let me know that you had emailed us both on her email and she had presumed you had sent it to me too and that I had replied. That is the reason for the late reply.

It was very good to hear how it went and just lovely to have a couple of pics and it was very moving to see the t-shirt. Thank you for that.

I was thinking of you all, all day. Mickey sent a bass chat link too with all the comments from the Bassists. It sounded like a very successful day for you all including the food.

I was surprised to hear that you sold some stuff. It will come in very handy for the things that keep going wrong here and need fixing. So thank you.

I have a man here from Totnes, come to see the last of keith's gear. Hopefully he will buy it.

Thank you Mike and Gabrielle - it was good to meet you.

    All good wishes

    Anna"

She also sent me her bank details so I can transfer the £120 we raised from the sale of Keith's stuff. I'll forward them via PM to the couple of Bashers, who told me they had taken items but didn't have cash to pay on the day.

    Loren is Keith's daughter btw.

    Or a shortscale SBV B|

Not familiar with this bass so just Googled it to fill the knowledge gap.

Among the search results was an amusing FS ad on Reverb from Reverty in Tokyo with the following (forrowing?) headline:

Yamaha SBV-500 Electric Bass Guitar Red Frying Samurai Bass.

So sad to see that the once noble Samurai are reduced to frying for a living nowadays.

    Very nice basses btw.

Yamaha needs to put a short scale bass into production.

And I think it's a bit odd that they haven't got any current production short scale offerings with how popular short scales have become in recent years, nearly every other big guitar manufacture having at least one option for this in their current lineup.

Agreed, especially because we know it will be good, honest value for money when/if it comes.

Kateplaysbass - what was the make of your very quirky white ‘rockabilly’ style bass please? I took a photo of it and the name on the headstock is sliding off the top of the shot 🤦🏻‍♂️

I can answer for Kate on this one. It was an Eastwood Airline Map Bass, so named because the body outline roughly corresponds to the mapped-out shape of the USA IIRC.

I much preferred it when it was a heroin based Bash.

The last time any 'crack' appeared at a Bash was the year you dropped your trolleys and mooned for the group shot ☺️

Sorry you missed such a craic-ing Bash yesterday btw ☹️

  6. Hey Rich, well said!!

As the organiser, I like to avoid getting a bit emotional and mushy about the S-W Bash... but trust me, I could!

This really is something special and, like Rich, always leaves me counting my bass-bashing, crumble-crunching blessings - and so chuffed to see that everyone else apparently feels the same ☺️

Mrs Scrumpy is on cloud 9 and likely to remain there for some time.

  7. Well folks, "another one bites the dust"!  Just got everything put away and the house and garage back in order 😊. Thanks for all your kind messages, much appreciated. Despite the work involved, we love it too.

Sorry that some of the usual suspects didn't make it this year but delighted to meet the S-W Bash newbies. Particularly nice to have the chance to remember and talk about Si ('Norm') and Keith ('yorks5stringer'), thereby ensuring that they were with us in spirit.

Once again, special thanks to Stevie and Phil for giving us the benefit of their knowledge, this year in the shape of the amp shoot-out.

Watch this space for image from the day.

Wow, good job they cancelled HS2. However, that was to keep the Pict,s Scots and various northerners out. Now building Sunak's wall at Watford Gap.

Bad luck, the barbarians are already through the gates! This 'various northerner' has been hiding in Somerset for 12 years now 😊

Gonna try n get down for this - never been to a bash before - can bring some  amp heads

Markbass Slim Head - the old analogue one just before class D came out

    Genz-Benz shuttle 9.2

    Hartke LX8500 - kinda like a shuttle , bought 2nd hand as a backup

Im very interested in seeing the Basschat diy cabs

also in getting the frequency response measured on these amps

Will pay the door - unless you still need it in advance

Hope you can make it. No problem paying on the door.

  10. THIS YEAR'S AMP SHOOT-OUT!!

Phil Starr has PMed me what he's planning:

    "Hi Mike,

Just touching base about the shootout. Give me half an hour after lunch. I’ll gather up amps in the morning plus what you, Stevie and I bring. We won’t be short 😀

I was planning three runs. Three micro amps because we know their frequency responses from last time, then maybe four best amps by reputation followed by valve vs class AB vs class D, just for fun.

I would like to do the runoff with a live bassist rather than recorded bass, not scientific but more realistic and more fun. Who would be good do you think amongst those coming? I’m going to be busy with swapping leads and ‘compèring’ and amps are a lot harder to swap than speakers.

So who is the best amongst us and not shy?

btw I've talked this through with Stevie and we’ll be using two of his LFSys Monaco cab's (FRFR.

    Phil"

So... let's have a good selection of your amp heads - I'll be bringing an Ampeg SVT-7 PRO, Mesa Subway D800 Plus, and Ashdown RM800 EVO.

Last but not least, we need a volunteer or 3 willing and able to play a few short demo lines in different genres.

  11. Since my last post re Keith's stuff, the cheaper Protection Racket gig-bag has sold but here's a heads-up on the remaining 'Bravo' by Blake Guitar Solutions.

This is a top-quality item in A1 condition with heavy-duty outer shell, thick/robust protective padding, luxury velour lining and nice detailing including: external zip-fastening pockets front and back; neck rest with velcro flap; additional removeable padded insert along the bottom edge; and an 'across the chest' horizontal tie with quick-release clip to keep the shoulder straps in place.

My quick on-line search shows Blake as a US brand not currently on sale in the UK but at launch the 'Bravo' bass bag was listed with a UK RRP of £152. A mint used Apex guitar bag (smaller but same design and quality) went on Reverb for £65 and I'd say Keith's bag would be a bargain at that price.

The internal dim's are approx (L)122cms x (W1*)42cms x (W2**)38cms x (D) enough for any solid-bodied bass. W2 is measured 52cms up from the bottom where the shoulders start to taper in.

    *Bottom bout  **Top bout

Any takers in advance of the Bash for payment/collection on the day?

  12. Popped round with Mrs Scrumpy to pick 'yorks5stringer' Keith's stuff up yesterday. Spent a very pleasant hour or so drinking tea with wife Anna and daughter Loren in the garden. Haven't had a proper sort through yet but - apart from the Markbass cab already sold to neepheid, the only items of substance in terms of sales value seem to be a couple of nice gig bags and a mic stand. I'll try and sell those at the Bash and put the rest in the raffle, which Anna has said it's OK to do.

Anna has given me some words she'd like shared with the Bashers, which I'll either read out, put on display, or both.
