1. I've heard a lot of people having problems with the GUI in Reaper, just mug off waves plugins and get a $15 monthly subscription to slate digital instead and u can use all of their plugins
2. It is from the tweeters themselves unfortunately, they have their own volume control knob on the side of the cabs (a clear sign that markbass know fine well that they are way too loud) but turning the tweeters all the way is the only way to totally eliminate the hiss, but you lose a lot of brightness and attack. Yeah I didn't think of it that way, I suppose it's only gonna eliminate any noise going into the cabs so if the issue is the tweeters then there really isn't anything to be done Just twigged the sheer stupidity of the question really.
3. hi guys, I recently bougt a new Mark Bass rig, (little rocker500 / traveller 2x10 and 1x15) mainly for its portability, but I'm getting a good punchy sound out of it. HOWEVER... good as the Piezo tweeters sound, they hiss like something not right! Would I be able to mask the background hiss with a noisegate pedal for parts when I'm not playing? I've heard about surpressors "sapping tone" from peoples bass sounds. Anyone used a noisegate for this application before? Cheers guys
4.
Could be purr-fect, but I'd reflect on it for a little while...
Just want to return to this post as this comment was criminally overlooked.
5. I've come to the decision that it's all just me trying to fit a square peg in a round hole! The solution being (which makes an excellent excuse!) is to just revert back to 4 strings for my bands material, and use my 5 string for my own stuff/learning other bands songs... so since it's not up to scratch I guess I'll just have to buy a new 4 string!
6. Hey man, I would be interested in getting in on this! Can't see the issue numbers or whatever on the pics but I'll just name who's on the covers of the one's I'd like if that's ok... 1) Robert Trujillo 2) Randy Jackson 3) John Paul Jones 4) Paul Chambers 5) Anthony Jackson if that is cool? awesome of you to just give them away, I'm assuming you just want paying for the postage?
7. I think when I originally did it I didn't want to tune up past standard tuning because I figured the tension wouldn't be good on the bass (since I'd never heard of the idea of tuning up lol) but on reflection half a step really wouldn't make that much of a difference lol. I just read an article where a guy is "up-tuning" his bass using hipshots, so he has his bass in standard tuning and tunes the hipshots to half a step up, definitely think I will have to invest in some of those! I would be able to play my bands material much easier then just revert back to standard tuning on the fly to play along with songs I wanna learn! Don't suppose anyone has done this before?
8. A low G! Dear god... the concept intrigues and boggles at the same time lol
9. I guess I'd have to give it a bash and see how it sounds and feels!
10. Thanks Molan, that is good to know! There is a music shop in Newcastle that sells these I'm thinking of getting from since it's a pig of a job finding anyone close enough on the forums to buy off. And I'm assuming all of the ones bought new from the shop with be Indonesian made? Good to hear good reviews, I like the idea of the 2 x 212 cabs, but wondering what the difference is between the NY and traveller series? I'll have to make my decision in the shop obviously, but upon looking at them there seems no difference aside from looks and the fact the NY is ironically lighter than the traveller series!
11. Hi Guys, weird question, I got a5 string bass last year, first and foremost because I just liked the bass and it was a big improvement on my old 4 string. Also my bands guitarists play in a low tuning (we are a metal band after all!) of C standard. So in theory, with the extra low string I should be able to reach lower notes with ease and without having to get the bass set up for a different tuning... Oh how wrong I was! Although I don't claim to be an amazing bassist by any stretch of the imagination, I can play my bands material with ease once learned, but playing C standard riffs in a metal band on a low B string seems utterly impossible! String skipping between the low B and the EAD strings is ridiculous, I would have to have either two hands or hold a world record for freakishly large hands. Obviously if I wasn't just a muppet with a bass I'd have been able to know how hard it would have been before I bought it... time to swot up on some musical theory lmao. So since discovering the difficulties I have reverted to tuning my low B up to C and the other 4 strings down 2 steps. The 5 string has still come in handy for out more proggy and technical parts for soloing and tapping sections including the G string, but I can't help but feel I've got a 5 string bass for no reason, or like a mug that can't play has bass right lol. Is this sort of set up also likely to damage my bass in the long run? I haven't noticed any drastic issues with the intonation since using it but will it warp my neck or anything? Considering selling my old 4 string and replacing it with a good one (or one with a high E) and retiring my 5 string for recreational use... Rant Over. Any thoughts? And happy new year to all! (Yep what sort of saddo is on basschat at 20 past 1 New years Day morning I hear you ask! A man's gotta work!)
12. I've used a pick for ages as I broke my middle finger on my right hand and it's a bit bent lol! When I try and play fingerstyle I end up hooking the string all the time, but you just have to make it work for you. Thankfully since I'm in a metal band some of the riffs are far easier with a pick due to the fast tremolo picking etc and the extra attack is a bonus. I guess I should try harder to work around my ailment though lol. Know you are not alone!
13. Cool, thanks for the responses. I have often wondered how much difference there is, I'm currently using a 4x10 and 1x15 combo and I hate it, the 1x15 is so boomy and farty its horrible but I assumed this was due to it generally just being a rubbish make of cab more than anything. Does the size of speaker really make that little difference? I read a review on this cab and it claimed that it lacked bottom end but sounded better when paired with the 151p ... Guess it's all just BS! How do you like these cabs M@23? Serving you well?
14. Hi guys! I have purchased a Markbass Little Mark Rocker 500 the other day and am looking into what cabs to match with them. One of the main reasons that I am changing my rig in the first place is portability, as my current rig ways an absolute tonne! Very happy with the purchase of the rocker as I got it 2nd hand for less than half the RRP, and it weighs in at something like 5kg which is ridiculously light compared to my last head (hartke HA3500) seems like a hell of a bargain. Now looking into cabs and although I didn't initially intend on a full Mark Bass rig... (that is a hell of a lot of yellow in one rig after all) they are extremely light! Considering a traveler 102p atop a traveller 151p (both 8 ohm obv). Weighing in at about 15kg each!! Me likey the sound of that! Does anybody have any experience with these cabs? I have read very good things and also imagine that other brands cabs probably won't compliment the rocker head sound quite as well, however I also read that in a live situation they lack enough power to be heard, is this true? Or is their more than enough power to gig with in this rig? Also a bit of a noob question: I've never had to use speakon cables with my last rig, but on the back of the rocker there is one speakon cable labelled speaker cable (duh) and one cable caballed class 2 wiring which looks like a regular jack, but I believe both cabs have exclusively speakon ports in the rear.. what gives with that? I guess I'll just have 1 speakon to speakon and one speakon to Jack? Cheers in advance
15. That is very good to hear Byo as coinscidently I just got a Little Rocker 500 lmao! Well at least nobody seems to be heavily against the idea of pedal to amp head anyway.. I guess it's not as bigger an issue as I read into after all. I trumped for the mark bass in the end because mark bass seem to have a pretty neutral sound which would be good to colour with the pedal. Lmao wooks that pre amp does look the bomb-dig to be fair!
16. Thanks Guys lmao ras, the dark side of the tees ey, it's ok I won't begrudge you for it! Cheers Wooks, I might take you up on the offer. Do you guys still gig in the area much?
17. Cheers for the info mate Yes I'm getting very excited about getting one now! I've watched countless demos and it seems like people get some nasty tones out of it (that's a good thing). I don't know too much about power amps to be honest I'm going to have to do some research into them. Be interested to hear from other pre/power setup users and their recommendations. The only reason I figured going into front of an amp may be beneficial would be so that I could find my tone with the b3k and then if the sound is lacking in a live setting, the stage height, room size etc requires a slightly different sound, I could adjust the amp heads EQ. Or is mixing EQ settings of the amp with the stomp box a bad idea?
18. Ah okay lol, thanks for the info mate Hey Wooks, nice to see another smoggie on here. Trying to check your band out but my work PC won't let me apparently a few people I know on fb like the page though so will definitely give it a listen. I see you just got endorsed by Dark Glass! Nice, I'm thinking about getting the b3k or b7k, posted in effects about it. I guess you sort of have to say it's good but what is your honest opinion of the b3k? lmao
19. Thanks mate I got an email reply from a moderator who is sorting it I think but thanks! I don't have a probem with the return key, most of the keys just won't register when I'm typing it's weird!
20. Hi guys, newbie here first real post (other than in the intro section) and I've got a couple of qustions. Firstly, I am wanting to upgrade my rig but downgrade in size weight and general portability. I was wondering what everyone's general opinion is in using pre-amp pedals? And whether you think it's better to use a pre amp pedal DI into a power amp (or a norml amp, bypassing the amps EQ) or to use one as a stomp box straight into the front of the head, then you could use the amp head to tweak and hone the sound even further. However I have read a lot of people describing the amps EQ as "woolly" are all amp EQs woolly in comparison to a straight pre amp/poweramp setup? Also I am hoping to use a dirt box in my rig either way, originally I was looking at the SansAmp BDDI but the sound seem a bit unspectacular, then I stumbled across some demos of the Dark Glass bk3 which seems to sound insane. I am leaning toward that pedal now. However it doesn't come with a DI like the sansamp does. So depending on the general consensus of the first question could dictate whether I get a b3k or splash the cash for a b7k which has a DI. Anyone have experience with the b3k or b7k and have any opinions/experience of them? Thanks in advance guys
21. Also anyone who can tell me how to change my user name from my email address gets a gold star lol
22. Hi guys, I've been reading through the forums overnight shift for the past week and I thank you all for keeping me thoroughly entertained I am a bassist in a metal band from middlesbough (wondering if there are any other teessiders on here!) and have been playing bass on and off for about 4 years (on and off due to ridiculous work commitments!) thankfully I have recently started a new job where I will have more time off to myself so my previously disbanded band is all back together and I'm excited to start taking my bass playing to the next level! I will be on these forums frequently no doubt in an attempt to drink from your collective fountains of knowledge. If anyone has any interest in that sort of music you want to hear what sort of music I play to best answer questions regarding gear or playing style you can hear my bands old album here (you can download the whole thing for free if you are that way inclined!): https://www.facebook...204974879526524 Apologies to those who don't dig the vocals lol Also, here is a pic of my naff rig at the moment looking to change it up soon. That's my first bass in the pic, I've since replaced it with a Schechter Diamond Series 5 String.. a step in the right direction lol! I look forward to hearing from everyone Bass domination here I come... Wish me luck guys! PS. is it just my PC or is it almost impossible to type on here in the first two lines of text? lol
