Saw Elton live for the first time yesterday. An impressive show all round. Matt Bissonette was an absolute monster - the FOH mix was superb and he cut through brilliantly. I now have major Musicman GAS...thanks Matt 😡

Great looking bass. Where are you based?

Totally. You'll never go back.

Oh no, so sad. A superb player 😔

Just got tickets to see Babymetal at Brixton. Loved them a couple of years back, should be an event. Luckily, we have seats so won't have to battle the Circle of Death 😊

We decided to play a number of songs we hadn't gigged for years last night. I was a little dubious at first and a bit worried that they wouldn't come back to me but it turns out they totally rejuvenated the playing live vibe. We've been getting a little stale recently so now have decided to get our older songs back on rotation so no two gigs are the same. It's genuinely enthused me and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy playing a big variety of styles. Looking forward to the rest of the year with renewed enthusiasm knowing that RATM could follow James Blunt who could follow Chic with some Simple Minds to conclude 😁

Any more pics of that Vig?
Only with me in a Halloween costume!! I can take some if you're interested. And here's Derek playing it.

I use the B string all the time, nearly every song. Playing up the neck is what makes a 5 worthwhile imo

June Millington = cool AF!

It happens to me occasionally. Normally when I'm playing a verse and can't remember what's coming next. My strategy nowadays is to stop thinking and just let the hands remember when the time comes. Works surprisingly often!

Plus we have 3 sound guys who I would describe as being friendly with. Only of the band was I friends with before we started but, after ten years, I regard the band as all close friends of mine I could always rely on. That doesn't mean that they all don't get on my tits on a regular basis though 😅

Being in a covers band, most of the music we play is rarely my cup of tea. But the upside is that playing it gets us much more gigs, bigger audiences and money. The buzz comes from pleasing the audience and enjoying the atmosphere. It's a lot of fun! I'd love to also get the buzz from playing my taste in music but the two rarely cross over. Cover bands are a different world which needs a different approach. I'd say learn the songs, give it your all and see where it goes. You might enjoy it in a way you didn't expect. Like others have said, don't go for a jam, that'll not go down well. Good luck!

I definitely find this one of the gentler forums and much the better for it.

I've just started a rough YouTube channel of my band's gigs as a promo tool. Some of the clips are a bit rough, all live phone vids and the like, but this one came out nice and I was pretty pleased with the live sound. What you think?

I loved aThe Skids but despised Big Country and I’m always surprised that the latter are held in such high esteem, am I missing something?
Try The Armoury Show for how The Skids were improved later.

Simple Minds from 1979 to 1983 were phenomenally creative. Less so when they got big. Their early years were mighty in so many ways.

Hehe. I thought that for ages until I got a dingwall. Absolute piece of cake, they don't seem fanned when you play them. It's like a clever illusion whereby people think you've got skills. Which I haven't.

A superb album with brilliant basslines. A key album from my youth and a ton of really well-written songs.

Wizzard!! And trickier to play than I thought.

For some reason I always loved playing Addicted To Love. The bassline is such a groove to play. Unfortunately, it never went down as well as it felt so we haven't gigged it for ages.

The drummer and guitarist are probably posting about their worst ever rehearsal on a different forum 😋

Why isn't he putting the kick through FOH? Much more control, presuming you've got a decent desk. We have our backline but everything goes through FOH, much better for balancing problems like the one you describe. Obviously, getting a drummer to do as you ask is a whole different problem 🤔

Saw Bowie on the Serious Moonlight tour at Milton Keynes Bowl, with The Beat and Icehouse. That was some gig.
Check Bowie at the BBC theater 2000 on YT. Great gig - the sound is awesome under headphones. Highlight was Mark Plati's bass on Ashes to Ashes
The Beeb gig was fantastic. Band tight as hell, the voice amazing and I've long considered that Mark Plati bass as one of my favourite bass YouTube clips. I was always puzzled why he swapped instruments with Gail Ann Dorsey for that one track. She doesn't like slapping?!

Could you be tempted by a swap/trade for another Dingwall?
