Good post.
+1 That post about sums it up for me. I would also add that i have been to a lot of corporate functions over the years and have never seen any originals bands at these events. Plenty of Tribute and covers bands though so i don't agree that tribute band are taking anything away from originals.

Ive only ever owned one SB bass. I only had it for two weeks but i put a black PG on it and really liked the way it looked.

The Venue seems to be doing ok and i believe its mostly tribute bands playing there. They seem to bill the gigs as if they were the originals, big posters etc.
Personally, if i was in a band which toured around the world playing huge stadiums, full of tens of thousands of people at a time, and to millions of people throughout the duration of a tour who wanted to hear me play music that me and my mates wrote, i'd change basses every song. In fact, i'd change batteries in the bass between each song, I'd have every pedal that had been manufactured, sitting around, ready, just in case, and of course a thousand brown M&M's in a brandy glass at every gig. All because i'd be in a world famous rock band playing stadiums, and therefore I'd be able to do that.
Too right, same here. I would also have way to many large cabs, because i don't have to carry them.
but all that noise and dissonance creates a sound and feel that communicates a certain sort of emotion in a way that sweet clean arpeggios could never do. Live and let live!
Thats what we are saying. But isnt pain a "certain emotion" ;-) Seriously, i liked the song but that guitarist was not giving me any pleasure at all.
Frankly, I should think he wouldn't care too much about a few detractors on an internet forum arguing why he has so many basses after selling millions of albums worldwide and becoming one of the most successful British recording artists ever.
Did he sell them all at car boot fairs

The way i see being in a gigging band is this A good gig is like a good day at work. A bad gig is like a bad day at work. In life you take the rough with the smooth. Get over the bad one and look forward to the next, hopefully good one.

Anyone notice the adds at the bottom of this page are for tribute bands. Ain't the web wonderful. EDIT: and now they have gone. Oh well.
Yeah, that was absolute bollocks... and he is a famous artist with pedigree??? My arse.
I thought the song was ok but whenever the guitarist let lose it sounded like my 6 year old having a punch up with his violin, and not in a good way.
Lovely looking bass...and I am not generally a P-bass type fan
Ive had a black PG and a Pearl white one on my DD's. Nothing you do with these basses takes away that classy look. And they are much, much nicer in the flesh. The red sparkle is fantastic.
What the fcuk is Nick Cave on??
Something a lot weaker than his guitarist. Not a huge NK fan but FFS, was that music they were playing?
Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200 An extended version on Moondance? That is a crime against humanity.
yeah, well if the audience cant be arsed that's what they get. And our singer does a very long, very out of tune guitar solo.
A true bassist doesn't understand pedals anyway :-P
A true bassist doesnt need pedals :-p
Thanks Dave. Probably a dumb question, but how do I check they are wired in phase? Is it just a case of the white and black cables coming off the same sides on both pups. I stupidly told my daughter I'd have this job done double quick
Yeah, just take one pup and reverse the wires. Both pups should be wound the same way but you never know. As far as i know it doesn't matter what colour goes to ground.
He only THINKS he plays through all that gear. The soundman really takes a DI straight from the bass into the desk where its processed via a £100 multiFX pedal. Of course the tech couldn't say that on the video or Chris W would find out.
In fact they all have midi pickups on them and are just triggering a Roland bass station, preset 1.
I bet people on here would
Ah, but who on here would go and see them ;-) Some people on here would claim they could tell if he had a Duracell or Eveready battery in his bass lol.

Its also the fact that a lot of concert goers want to hear the classics as well as new material. I think the tribute bands give us this as they tend to concentrate more on a bands heyday IME. Or you spend a lot more to hear the new album the band are promoting that your probably not too familiar with, and just a few classics. Maybe that just me but its something ive noticed over the past few years and have stopped going to major gigs.

It could well be that one of the pups has been wired the oposite fo the other, like you have said. Have you checked that both pups are wired in phase. when i put my wizards in to my HW-one i only put the neck one in to start with. I went with white to white, black to black, as per the stock pups. Either pup worked fine but there was a huge drop in volume when both were on full. I just reversed the leads on the wizard and all was fine. It might be worth a try.
