1.
Always comes across as a top guy in interviews that I have seen... and he is such a musical player. There is sheer technique and then there is musicality to take it to the next level...he has loads of both, IMO.
Im assuming by the "musical player" comment that you aren't talking about Lemmy
2.
You can power the pedal by USB apparantly, but i imagine it would need to be a USB port with a fair bit of power to it. My laptop USB isn't powerful enough to charge an iPad, and i doubt it would be powerful enough to power a pedal.
Not wanting to go off topic here but if you install a small app called Asus Ai Charger this will boost the voltage of any USB port your iPad is plugged in to, and allow you to charge the ipad. The iPad needs 10watts, most USB ports put out 5watts i believe. Its perfectly safe, ive been using it for a couple of years on all my PC's. 3.
I think you've mistaken me for another poster. I haven't uttered a word of criticism against your bass. What I said was that the graphite basses are a totally different instrument. Not quite sure how you make the jump to the copies being unplayable. CB
Well i posted in defence of mine, and your post followed mine with the statement "Once you've played an original graphite Steinberger, you'll see what we mean" Sorry if i got that wrong but im not sure what else to make of the "we mean" bit, other than that you are agreeing with the previous poster about something. You also said "I'm sure the modern wooden basses may be totally fine", so again, im assuming you are referring to my bass and i responded with that it was, and while the real thing will probably be better somehow, it doesn't take anything away from my bass being fine as well.. I meant no offence, but it seemed to me your comments were directed at me, and that you were agreeing with someone else's comments. No harm done. Im not trying to start an argument, just pointing out that i have no issues with the wooden bass.
4.
Once you've played an original graphite Steinberger, you'll see what we mean. CB
No, i dont think i will. If i don't have any issues with the one i have i dont see how i suddenly will by playing the real deal. I have played the real thing, and im in no way comparing the two, but with all due resptect just because its made of wood doesn't not make it an unplayable bass.
5. Funny, i never suffered from any neck, intonation or tuning issues with mine. I probably did around 50 gigs with the one i posted above.
6. We used to rehearse at the same place L42 did in the early days. After a while we used to get to the rehearsal room quite a bit earlier, just to sit outside and listen to them. Not a huge L42 fan these days but i have a lot of time for them, and Mark seems to be a genuinely nice bloke, not big headed at all (i would be if i had his talent)
7. Not pitch but i do find the top end goes by the last set.
8. I used to go and see him at the Fox on Palmers Green and the Sir George Robey at Finsbury Park. I know nothnig about him when i first saw him, and to be honest really couldn't name many of his songs now, but he, and his band, were one of only a few that have kept me memorised for a whole gig. Like you, i tend to come away "yeah, its was ok..." but never Wilko's gigs. Good times. Completely agree about Norman as well. That guy just seems so natural at what he does. Never flash for flash sake, but so enjoyable to listen to. I'd much rather listen to him than some (most) of the big names, Jaco included.
9. My son loves my Spirit bass...and so do i. Im really not sure about Nigel's comment about them being poor, each to his own of course, but i love the EMG selects. I even had one in my old Squier JV bass for a while. Having owned 3 Spirits, and the Honer version i much preferred the passive Spirit tones. Lovely white bass with gold hardware, although all wood (unlike the "real" thing). Rob green had a hand in designing it though. Very rare http://www.vintagewa...Statusbass.html
10. Seems like we all agree its s great, cheap bit of kit. I've still got my Peterson Stroboclip (£69) but the only time I ever use it is for setting intonation, as the display is a lot more accurate. Last night I had all 3 clip on tuners, plus my B3 tuner on and all were more or less spot on.
11.
Ah the law of diminishing returns eh I think CS guitars and basses are aimed at people with a lot of money to spare.
Im not adverse to spending a fortune on a bass (i wish i had the spare change to do it), but at this price point you can get a 100% customised bass, so why buy a more or less bog standard P bass? I think a lot of basses are also sold to people who just sit at home and play. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course.
12. I think most can justify things to ourselves, and if enjoyment is one of them then that fine. I have a £2000 DSLR that in no way could i justify owning, other than it brings me a lot of enjoyment. But do i need it? Nope. Can i get away with a cheaper camera? Hell yes. So my point is i would fail to understand that someone has to buy this, as nothnig else will do. As already been mentioned, its a P bass, how much do you really NEED to spend to get a tone and feel of a P bass. I find the spec's very close to the CVP, even to the point of having vintage style frets. I understand the wood is nicer, but is it better, and in what way? I bet Pino wouldn't worry about using a CVP if he had to :-)
13. Yep, its a rich man's toy, nothing more. I dont begrudge anyone who buys or wants one, but i can see no actual need for anyone to own one other than want, or can (which are good enough reasons i suppose) I bet it doesn't make you play or sound any closer to Pino than a Squier CVP, and certainly wouldn't look any different on stage.
14. Mine arrived today. Its not that much smaller than the "mini", and the screen is more directional, if you view it from off centre its harder to see than the mini. It is adjustable though so its not an issue. The screen is smaller but it does show the info in a clear and accurate way. It does seem to be a bit quicker than the mini, and seem to be more sensitive, so i guess thats good as well.
15. I ordered a tuner form thme yesterday. The website said they were waiting for stock to arrive, and i wanst in a hurry This morning i got an email from Paul apologising for the delay, and letting me know the tuner is now in stock and will be sent out today. Thats pretty good service IMO, more so the email than the speed, but im not complaining about either.
16. Unfortunately I don't have a 5 string to test it out. I did use my mini on a 5 string and it seemed to work fine. I don't tend to suffer from stings going out at gigs, but I do tend to check tuning every now and then. Ill let you know what the new ones like when it arrives. SD are waiting for them to come in but it should be here before sat.
17. Ive just noticed these. Im not sure how new they are, i couldn't see a thread on here. http://www.planetwav...Microtuner.Page http://planetwaves.c...28-47b3c35a6cbf Ive been using the mini version since last year, and have had no issues with it, but this looks even smaller, and apparently more sensitive and accurate. Ive placed an order with StringsDirect and will hopefully get it before the next gig.
18.
Why is it that a fretless bass is specified as 'fretless' but fretted basses don't need the same description? Surely the fretted bass is a "Johnny come lately" in the great big scheme of things? I'm confused at the taxonomy (amongst many, many other things).
My thoughts are that if its not specified as fretless then it must be fretted. No need to label both IMO.
19. Yep, best for me as well. I really love the live Bowie stuff, he seems to choose the right musicians and the songs sound new and refreshing. My two fav live albums of his are the Glass Spider tour and A Reality tour. Maybe not classic Bowie but they really appeal to me. Loved what he did with Rebel Rebel on the A Reality Tour as well.
20.
Sennheiser HD25 - 1 make a decent choice.
+2. Best ive ever had for this sort of thing, and yes, i used them with my old Streamliner 600. Lots of nice tight, clear bass, not woolly or over powering.
21. Played a joint anniversary/birthday party in a very posh house is Esher last Sat. We were playing in the pool house, with the pool covered by the dance floor. gig went well (other than some form of earthing issue that caused my rig to have a whistle when plugged in ot our PA), the sound was very good, great crowd, great food and we got a £100 tip.
22. There might be something in here http://www.talkbass....ed-last-972567/ I know you can with the B3 so i dont see why not with the 60B
23. Wow, these basses used to flay out of here within hours of someone posting them for sale. I cant believe this hasn't yet. Maybe we need another Squier CVP thread in the Bass section to get some interest going ;-)
24.
I've not heard about these strings before. Keepnus informed about how they last.
Personally i didn't like them, ,but that was then. I still have my set and will give them another outing one day http://basschat.co.u...age__hl__cobalt http://basschat.co.uk/topic/181881-has-anyone-here-tried-these-eb-cobalt-strings-yet/page__p__1745300__hl__cobalt__fromsearch__1#entry1745300
25.
74's? Custom wound model? Si
Yeah. I got the 84/s but i too found thme quite dark sounding. It wasnt really what i was looking for so Andy suggested something in between the two standard versions. He had me send mine back and the same day dispatched the new versions, all i had to do was pay return postage. Very good service. They sound a bit more open, but still have the low end kick of the 84's.
