Xmas FX

I got a Zoom 60b from my other half. It was something I've been meaning to buy for a while now so well pleased (although not a total surprise). Can't wait to test it out at the next gig. Although I've already got a B3 I don't tend to use that for gigs, I don't like the foot switch spacing. Hoping the 60b works out better. I really only need the BDDI and chorus sims so I'm sure it will.
2.
Anyone recommend a good wireless system that's not silly money...?????
Yes, in all the other existing threads about wireless ;-)
3. I'd normally pick it up by the middle first :-)
4. In my quest to replace the buzzy stock bridge pup on my Squier VM PJ i came across the above. Ive done searches, both on the net, here and TB, but it doesn't seem that many people are using them. Most of the comments are positive so ive taken the plunge, but until they arrive i thought id do a bit more research. So, anyone using them?
5.
I have a Roland r-05 Brilliant fantastic piece of kit http://www.roland.co...ils.aspx?p=1077 The batteries seem to last forever, and accepts huge amounts of memory at a staggeringly high volume I especially like the function to press the "rehearsal" button and the device will listen to the music etc over the next 5 minutes so that the mic gain is set appropriately. I can upload some examples if you want to hear some recordings
That looks pretty cool. I have, and love, the older RH-09HR, but this cheaper version looks tempting. I use mine all the time to record gigs, best portable device ive ever owned, but at over £200 its not one i would recommend in this thread.
6.
Most low-enders don't stand any more than 2 metres from their rig. Why would anybody want wireless at 200 squids a go?? Jeez!!
For those moments when you have to go out front and sound check your band, for those moments when you do have to cross the stage for whatever reason (normally to do with mixing from the stage), for those other moments where the singers guitar lead crossed yours and gets tangled up, for those moments when the cheap curly lead starts to crackle and break up, for tho....... Agree it can be an excessive expense if you really dont need to move, but eve on very small, cramped stages im glad of my wireless system. I too have used the white Fender coiled lead, in fact i have two of them, but even with home use only they can be temperamental. Then again, they are low cost leads.
7.
Basschat has lost its soul. Si was a good lad, now we just have a load of talking heads. Good work Wayne.
Si wasn't unique on this website. While he was everything that's been said there are others who are just as kind, helpful etc.
8.
Yep, another vote here.
One more vote for the BDI-21, if on a budget. Although i have one these days I use a BDDI, as to my ears its a bit warmer sounding. Also another vote for the Zoom B3, although if only looking for warmth it might be a bit overkill (although cheaper than the BDDI it can emulate)
9. What about just turning the patch levels down, and leaving the output level where it is? I found all the patches were very loud when i got mine, and i was overloading our desk. Rather than turn the output down i just adjusted the patches. I mainly did it this way as i was also overloading my ears when using headphones.
10.
I can sit how I want thanks... I'd have preferred a snarky comment about my poor right hand position than one comparing me to a girl! Thanks though.. It is a nice picture.
Gotta love internet humour, and how easy it is to miss read it.
11. My band did a gig for one of his friends weddings a few months before he went. I was really looking forward to meeting him to say thanks for getting us the gig. He seemed a really nice, genuine bloke, very friendly and helpful.
12.
Some people don't know the difference between having fun and buggering about getting nothing done.
Not everyone wants to take it seriously from the off. Ive been in bands who had no intention of ever gigging, it was purely for fun a few times a month. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. We all knew the score and we had a lot of fun as there was no time pressure etc. I also find not everyone has the same amount of free time. In my current band two of us have full time jobs, two dont. I find it hard to find time to learn new songs (if needed), although im the one that takes the band the most seriously and books most of the gigs. I think the OP got the right outcome, it sounds to me like he was serious about it and the others weren't. No one is in the wrong IMO, although i don't agree with people messing others about and have been through this myself and find it very frustrating. I think the OP's band did the right thing letting him know, and judging by this thread it was going that way anyway.
13. If no one minds id like to semi hijack this thread with a similar issue i had recently, although with a different effect. Im well aware of the method of changing one wire, ive had to do it in the past but when i changed the P pup in my new PJ i had a strange issue. I tok the stock pup out and put a Fender 62RI Original in. I know this to be a working pup as it came out of my main bass a few months ago. When both pups were up i had that hollow, nasal tone. Fair enough, change one of the wires over on the P pup, but when i did this the pup sounded more muffled and quieter, especially the D and G strings, even on its own. I took it out and put a Fralin in and all was good. I then put the Fender pup in my P bass and it worked fine. Ive never come across this before. I always though it didnt matter what wire went to ground on a P bass, at least, when its on its own. Granted i dont have a lot of experience with PJ's but if the stock, and Fralin worked fine then i dont think i was doing anything wrong. The only difference i can see is the Fender has a brass plate under it, i wonder if this was causing the issue. Im all sorted now, not really looking to sort it out, but if anyone has any ideas id like to hear them. Cheers, and good luck Dave, its really easy to do and once you have done it the first time you will feel more confident about messing about inside a bass.
14. I cant remember seeing any gig bags on line that didn't have the dimensions posted. Im not talking about eBay, just places like GAK, Soundslive, Strings Direct etc.
15. Dont most retailers post dimensions on their websites? Cant you get the measurements from there? For what its worth my old 55-01 would fit in any gig bag i had, same as my Fenders.
16. I see no build or quality issues between my CV's and my new VM. Different feel etc yes, but i can find less issues (none) with my VM than i did with 3 MIA's a few years ago, and a HW-one. Cant buy a old VM if it wasn't released in the configuration you want. ;-)
17.
So you like VM's as long as the neck and pups are replaced???
Nope. I just love it more now I have done the mods, and mainly as it feels more familiar and more to my liking. If I didn't have the mods to put on it already I wouldn't have bothered changing any of the parts. It's a great bass in its own right but I prefer jazz necks, and I like the tone of the rain. None of that is a reflection on the bass, and there wouldn't really be any off the peg alternative with those specifications anyway. I'd probably do the same with a MIA bass if I felt like it.
18.
Hmmm... you might want to avoid a Mike Lull bass then... Most of them are under 8lbs! They should be really cheap!
Haha, i will definitely avoid those, and any of the over priced (for me) boutique basses. I see no need ever to pay that much for a bass. I do understand what you are saying though, but knowing the VM cost less than £250 only adds to the fact that i know its cheap.
19. I love my Squier VM, Its pretty much become my only bass now. I took the Fralin out of the CV P and took the neck off the CV Jazz lol. Now its not only lovely to look at, its very comfortable and familiar to play, with the tone ive been used to, and with the added Jazz growl/burp thrown in. 20. Liam, if you want to borrow mine for a few weeks let me know.
21. I prefer the brighter tone of the BDI21. It has a nice fizz that the BDDI can't achieve. I never use the Presence knob but the BDI21 just seems more open. I do however prefer the look and functions of the BDDI, especially the phantom powering, and do like the warmth of the BDDI live.
22. Another big yes for this champ box. I too got one for a gig that was not going to have any back line for me. It was a strange one for me but I kept hold of the box and after a few false starts one night it just clicked and I've never looked back. Well, actually I use a BDDI now but do keep my BDI21 as a back up, and do actually prefer the tone of it, I just prefer the look and form factor of the BDDI
23. Yes, this was only using headphones at home. Interesting reply from Zoom though, I guess it makes sense but I've not had that issue with any other unit like this. Thanks for the heads up though.
24. Yes, same here. Very disappointed on first couple of plays, but since then ive only used USB at home, and a 1Spot PSU at gigs and not had this issue.
25. Working for me. I won't say working ok because I don't believe they have ever worked ok since this new system was put in place. It's a bit annoying getting notifications come in for every post, even though they state you will only get one per visit. Still, It does mean I can read the thread without actually coming on here.
