1.
Yeah, it's weird. I really wanted to like it and it's a neat looking design, but I can't get mine to work satisfactorily even after experimenting with the position. Looking at the reviews online I seem to be alone in this, so I probably should have kept the receipt! It's even worse on bass, but I use a cheap Harley Benton pedal tuner there.
When did you buy it? You can probably still return it. Explain that it's always been a bit of a dud.
 2.
Thanks everyone! Yup the new Hercules is now in the wall, secured. AB1 sits very nicely and the arms don't get in the way of the tuning keys. Now... I have a spare hanger to fill....
They're really good, aren't they? That's why we use them - They're very secure!
 3. The tweed-y cables do look pretty cool (like old-school rock leads!), but I think a few brands are doing that kind of retro-rock-look cable now, so I wouldn't go with any particular brand because of that. Decide on what quality you want first, as that is, after all, what you are paying for. You've had loads of good suggestions already, so I won't complicate things by offering my preference, unless you want me to. Good luck
 4.
I'm using a Planet Waves Micro-Headstock tuner. Picks up vibrations through the headstock. You don't have to have the bass turned up and it doesn't matter how loud the environment is. Very accurate. http://www.amazon.co...k/dp/B005FKF1PY I've never been a big fan of having a whole floor pedal just to tune the bass up with!!
Exactly what I was going to recommend They're awesome! And if you're a guitar player, the Planet Waves Artist Capo comes with a little clasp that goes onto the micro tuner so you can fit it onto your capo too, so if you keep your capo on the guitar, then you always have your tuner on the guitar too - makes things a bit handier!
 5. I have a set of ProSteels on my OLP (MusicMan reproduction), and it sounds really nice. The brightness of them isn't really harsh or biting (and I have a very bright amp!), but they still have loads of mids on the MM, because of the pickup and where it's placed. You could get quite a heavy set (55-110, possibly), and that would enhance the bass and mids a bit more.
 6.
Yeah they're stupidly easy to play, the tension felt no different to my EXLBTs to be honest so I've gotten on famously with them, I've also slightly lowered my action so it helps even more so! Don't think I'll move to ANY other brands!
I suppose they are popular with BassChatters for a reason I've never tried them before (don't really have a bass that suits flat wounds), but I'm going to try them out now!
 7.
Just had a set put on my P by a Luthier friend and my word what a difference they make! I had D'Addario EXL170BTs on the bass before the TI's and while they are lovely strings and have a nice tone and feel, they were just too bright for me, having used them for a while, I also became so used to that wonderfully thick and strong E, so going to a lighter gauge made me a little apprehensive as I thought I might loose that strong E but I haven't! The whole bass sounds better now! Utterly fantastic!
Awesome! What do you think of them in terms of playability? Getting on well with them?
 8. I'm a bit late to this one, but - Buy Hercules with confidence. We use them all the time. As long as they're properly secured onto the wall, they're great. They even come with a little lock these days, so you can lock it shut if you're concerned about anyone lifting it off the hanger I've never had the fortune to put a 5er into one of their hangers, but their range is pretty large, so I'm confident they have something that accommodates a 5-string 'waller
 9.
Might be of interest to some of you, Strings Direct currently selling twin packs of D'addario EXL strings for £30 delivered. They come with a free string winder/cutter that looks a bit crappy but £15 a set for these strings is pretty competitive pricing from what I can gather so anything else is a bonus.
That is a good deal! I think the string winder/cutter is actually the D'Addario Pro-Winder. We use them all the time - they're actually really good.
