1. Awesome unit. I had one of these up until 6 months ago when I "downsized" to an M9 to save some space on my pedal board. Really wish I hadn't as I miss the functionality of the bigger unit.

Have a bump for a fantastic bit of kit.

  3. EBS_Freak used his Jedi mind tricks yesterday and there's a Sony DWZ-B30GB currently winging it's way over the channel from Thomann. Bargain deal, £180 quid.

This will replace my racked up tried and trusted Sennheiser EW172 which has been a faithful and reliable servant over the years. It'll be sad to see it go but it'll be nice to have something small and compact on my pedal board rather than in the rack (which will now be retired).

  4. Blimey. That's a blast from the past.

I can remember being subscribed in the mid 90's. At the time, it was great. Bass stuff into my work inbox every day. Seemed so exotic to be talking to people the other side of the world about bass shizzle. Happy days.

Do I get an "old skool early internet days bass nerd" type award?

  5. I've had a Berg CN212 for the last 6 months and I've gotta say it's spectacular. I've owned and played through an awful lot of cabs in the past and this is easily the best cab I've used.

As with the other alternatives, I've not compared them so maybe a trip to Bass Direct to see for yourself. In that price bracket, there's not really a "best", more a "best for you".

Agreed with Musicman20 though, the NX2 is a fantastic deal for the price.

  6. I've recently taken the Status flats off my bitsa PJ with EMGs (http://basschat.co.u...48#entry1307348).

Sounded fantastic. Real "old skool" Motown tone when wound onto the P pickup. That characteristic EMG punch and clarity but tempered by the inherent mellowness of the flats. Loads of thump but no lack of articulation.

In fact, damn it. I'm gonna put them back on.

OK, I can't resist. Here's my orange one.

    Juicy!

    Lordy, that is spectacular.

My mate's got a couple of Bongos and is always trying to convert me. As he's left handed and I'm "NORMAL", it's not as if I can play his so I've yet to try one.

The function band's themed colour is Orange and one of these would be just fit the bill ;-)

With all that is going on with the Pixies, even I am expecting the call up....!

Think they've found someone already though.

  9. Hi Russ, yes, we were at the Roadhouse. Pity you couldn't have come, we would have had 5 people watching us! lol

With the in-house PA, despite having the IEMs with us, it was just way too much grief to try and get the engineer to setup our monitoring through the IEMs. Pity, it was a real jolt to go back to "old skool" monitoring and really missed using the buds despite only having used them for the last half dozen gigs.

Amazing how quickly you get used to something so good.

If you are a vocalist, it's the best. Defo. I hate singing without them now - the only thing that can catch you out as a vocalist is that because you hear yourself so loud in your ears, you tend to lay off the mic a bit... so especially on your lead singers, do a thorough soundcheck so they get used to singing on the mic and tailor the mix so they don't back off the mic... if you get what I mean.
Good call, hadn't thought about that but I can understand it completely. I've noticed that I've stood a little further back from the mic over the past couple of gigs because I can sooooo much more hear myself now. Obviously what's going out front may well be a different picture to the mix in the IEMs so as ever, we'll probably concentrate on the out front mix firstly to get happy with the mix and then do the monitor mixes to taste.

Until we upgrade the desk, we're still limited by outs so we're splitting Fiddy and Jo into their own mix off the one transmitter and then me and Paul (and Dave through the headphone out) on the other transmitter will share the other mix. I think the vocalists always tend to rely on heavily vocal heavy mixes through the front wedges so there shouldn't be that much difference for them. Anyway, we'll be able to tweak it to suit within the sound check and first couple of tunes.

  11. All the buds have come in this week so tonight's gig at my work's xmas party will be the first Second City Soul gig done completely with the IEMs. Quite excited!

For me, Paul the guitarist, Dave the drummer and Brian the keyboard player, we've already had a couple of gigs under our belts with the erm IEM's attached to our belts. It's been such a step forward. I'm so excited for Fiddy and Jo as this will be the first show for them with IEMs. It'll probably take a little adjustment but I'm expecting the same jaw-drop smile that me and Paul had a couple of shows ago.

Quite excited. Oh, did I say that already? lol

As for ambient with external mics, you'd probably notice a marked improvement if you considered using some condensors instead of dynamics such as the SM58... just keep them away from the drums!
A couple of reasonable dynamics are the next of the list for us too. Over the past couple of gigs, I've been so aware of the crowd noise through Fiddy, Jo's mine and Brian's mics but it's just a bit too shy for me. Be nice to be able to pick up a bit more of the on-stage ambience too through the condensers.

Would people get upset if a bass is sold without a plectrum? I'd suggest it's a similar level of triviality.
This.

TBH, I'd care not either way. In terms of euro leads, I've probably got at least 4 or 5 spares kicking around in my leads bag. Further ones in the band's leads box. For me, it seems a bit trivial if you're quibbling about a power lead. After all, you should as a working musician have a number of them as spares.

Mind you, flipping that on it's head, you should be including one of your many spares as part of the deal.

So there. That's me covered for any offence taken. :D :P
