1. You don't HAVE to use a PC at all to setup the B3 , I just like to ... its quicker and for someone who is getting to grips with it ... it can feel a bit fiddly , people get along better with drag and drops simulating the pedals positions and dial locations rather than scrolling through menu's which is fine once you know the names of each pedal and where is it but this is definitely quicker.

In on the left out on the right ... click and drag ... each pedal is openable to fiddle with the attributes and swappable , you also have easy obvious control at the top right .

2. Argh when was that .... please dont tell me saturday ... i was in the grey horse 2 mins up the road listening to a " average" 3 peice with two buddies while umm and ahh'ing to head down
to the boaters as it was a nice evening ...

Problem with the ram jam is they want a tenner per head to get in the door ....

I'm considering going to the jam night tomorrow in petersham if any other local bassfolk fancy it, and i can pluck up the " courage"
I've not been before and it seems a bit daunting as i'm hardly Stefan Redtenbacher

3. Blue ,the best way i think of using multi effects units live , such as my zoom b3 is a way of adding versatility to an existing board. For example I set up my most used 3 effects for constant use ,
( tube screamer , octaver and and amp sim which is my clean boost .)

It also doubles as my emergency Di, in case of amp failure, normally my Di goes out after amp shaping which means that if my amp goes pop the Di's gone too.
multi effects are as much for convenience,as it also saves slots and power on my board compared to 3 boss sized or considerably more compared to big units, like a muff.

I still use standard effects on my pedal board, ie my synth wah or compressor . The beauty of the zoom comes to light when doing new songs and you want to dial in a new sound quickly , or you need something for a cover you don't always use. The way I do this is using the zooms banks each slot of the b3 has little up down arrows for swapping that pedal and you can modify the order of the patches so if I suddenly need flange for 1 song mid set I can just swap off one effect that I don't need in that song to a slot above or below.

4. I was lusting after one of these VERY hard , can you describe the neck for me , how does it compare to say a standard Jazz I tend to use a 38 mm 70's profile fender type jazz
he describes these as 40mm , i worry because I dont get on with the 42mm P type necks ...

Plus are you planning on swapping the knobs to standard J ones ?

5. I think it all depends on your memory , while i'm sure 99% of those stand users don't look at the stands too often unless they are Deps' or new to playing , I think these are there more as comfort blankets, for quick reference.
theres nothing wrong with it but if people want to ween off the music stand there are other options ...

I for example scribble on my set list which effects / tone settings i'm using for each cover in my short hand a song like town called malice is TsBdiN0B10T , for those who don't speak the voices in my head translates To Tubescreamer on Sans-amp on , Neck pickup off Bridge at 10 tone at 10 - there's nothing enjoyably about faffing around between between songs

Another thing our guitarist feels he doesn't know a song quite as well as he'd like to ( crappy memory ) he capo's one of those little revision cards just to remind him of what chord / key or what fret he's capoing out.

6. I think the problem is more likely to be because while there is obviously very passionate fans , I don't imagine too many of them are at the dog and duck on friday night , you might find some do play more established places like the half moon in putney , but probably fall into the " tribute band arena "

7. I've been Very happy with all the " higher end Mexican stuff , the artist stuff the or the dated 60's 70's " They seem to really be giving Mexican's the Vintage modified treatment , i have every confidence these are gonna be cracking and i'm looking forward to the results . In other news Karl i mentioned to she who could not be named ... about the status and she said its FINE but only on condition that I traded it for something i really really wanted.... not just something that i already have ..... Reminds me why i love this girl :-D But i means NO Jazzes

8. I'm gonna post this here too because that status "Pino" is mine hope you dont mind karl.

Hi Karl , after some careful thought overnight on the trade I don't think i'm ready to give up the status . Your'e right it was a gift from my SO for a landmark birthday and it doesn't seem right to trade it away for another Jazz ,no matter how nice a jazz it is.

I can see the argument coming now ... where has the status gone ( she remembers the names of basses that i have that she likes ) . This one usually hangs on the wall to the left of her desk at home, Why is there a bass that looks VERY similar to your orange one ( sunburst 70's jazz) in some green colour ...... " YOU DID WHAT " .... lyle is chased around the house by his angry Russian Significant other wielding a nearby bass as a club.

I'm sorry to string you along like this but you wanted that stack knob right i was just throwing the cat amongst the pigeons .

9. This thread has caused me look up the price of separate insurance for my instruments unattended in the car . I'm guilty of leaving a fully loaded car in the overflow carpark at work for the whole day before rehearsal.
this is unfortunately shared with a station :-S and outside the pub when we have a cheeky half post rehearsal.

Nothing is ever on ever View i have a saloon and a bass plus amp fit securely in the boot, ( no access from the passenger compartment )

Insurance for two basses @ around 700 each plus my mark-bass eemed a very reasonable 3.60 a month , or 39 for the year .... Seemed pretty reasonable to me.

This was Allianz Instrument Insurance .

10. I'm also a big fan of Jamareo Artis bruno's bass player , talented guy i think he's part of the writing process on a lot of these things and Bruno is one of those annoying talented multi instrumentalist guys ,
his dad's a professional percussionist and he's a pretty tidy drummer and guitar player himself.

https://www.youtube....h?v=K8ivAsscK98 , about 50 seconds in once they have stopped pratting about

Or pratting about at the superbowl ... https://www.youtube....h?v=sPMrJDbwYYM

11. I suggest a pint / bass takeover of the Swan at some point , I was in chandlers Saturday dropping off a very broken Les paul for a work colleague ( headstock totally sheared off)
I like the changes they have made by removing all the hanging guitars from the ceiling and floors making it much more open and usable .

Very nice 70's mustang on the wall but Still no flats though .>.<

12. I was about to say , just within striking distance of chandlers then " perhaps you can join me in my campaign to try and get them to stock more than just Rotosound swing 66's the last time i tried to get flats there i had to take a set that had been " traded" packaging was about 10-15 years old ...

I get that they like " vintage" but damn .

13. B1on doesnt have a XLR DI out does it ?

I use mine with a b3 as a volume / tone shaping pedal , stomp on for when we do a Jam track to give me that big up in front middy in the mix with a little distortion.

saves a whole load of faffing to have 3-4 tones on tap.

14. I have a modern tele bass from Status , Mines active which allows you to shape away some of that mud and give you much more usability

Propper looker she is too ;-)

bear in mind be careful some of the modern player Telebass'es were 32 " rather than 34" Scale
