1. Just traded some 5 strings that I really wasn't playing enough and fancied an 'investment piece'. Pretty happy, a '78 USA Jazz. Quite heavy like a lot of them were, I had a '76 once and that was as heavy. To be fair my Elite isn't that far behind it. Anyway, colour?? Who knows...nearer Tropical Turquoise off the Fender colour chart. Pretty mint and plays nice, has the 70's slap tone when you hit it. Anyone know the colour for sure or have any other ideas??
2. Just because people are nosy.. I've updated my guitar list A Status S2 thru in Walnut, headed, not the silly looking one A Candy apple red Music man stingray 5 A Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5 string maple A Sandberg TM5 aged sunburst A Squire 4 string bass roadworn and plays like a dream A Fender Jazz '76 Sunburst Fender Elite J in ocean Terq A Tokai J in Baby Blue An Aria thingy in red. AMPS: Marshall MB150, Aguilar ToneHammer350, Carvin Redline R1000 Pedals: Mutron III+ Sansamp, B3K, Avalanche II, Markbass Octaver, Polytune, EBS Comp.
3. Sooo, oops. I just had to look up my password and it's been 4 years since I logged on. So eermm, yeah, hi everyone. So still playing, giging, recording etc, some good stuff too. As I'm a bit rusty on how the forum works and etiquette can someone guide me to the selling bass stuff. I'm going to unload a few 5 strings... Nice ones If anyone wants to catch the worm it's likely to be a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 (wide neck) A nice red Stingray 5 and perhaps my Status S2 headed. Hope everyone is fine post pandemic an all that, interesting to read the still many many threads. We must all be mad to be so in love with the instrument we all chose! Anyway...Merry Christmas, healthy New Years and all that. Danny
4. What about that guy out of cold play? Are we just picking on guys because they keep out the limelight and sit back for the frontman?? I mean look, who played bass for the cure, or the smiths?? I guess we could say the pistols?? Sid was a joke whereas Glen Matlock could actually play??
5. If I get another identical cab I didn't think I could run two 4 ohm cabs together?? two 8 ohms yes as that runs it full power down to 4 ohms..... Am I right thinking that?? Don't think my Aguilar goes down to run at 2 ohms?? I did have an SWR that did way back.
6. So yeah did a multi meter test and got zip, de nada, nothing! Tried the 9v battery test too! Luckily I live near enough to the mother company Marshall HQ so I took the speaker there, it was out of warranty, they identify from the number printed on the back. I was quoted £89 but only got charged £61 in the end and so the story ends! I'll get the new one in and test it hoping I get no more burning smells!
7. Thanks for the response. It's a good point, is halfway on the dial 250w?? I know with a 1x12 I'm not shifting large amounts of air but I have a little... ish Marshall 150w combo that seems louder, it's just heavier! The idea was a tiny box for small gigs and drag out the 4x10 for bigger shows. I'll test it later and let you know!
8. I guess this doesn't come up that often, at least not usual on quality units. I recently got a great little Eden ex 112 4ohm and been running my Aguilar TH 500 as the top. Did about 4 gigs, loud but only halfway on the amp. I started smelling a mild burning smell as the air was forced through the port on the last gig, no crackle or loss of sound. Did a rehearsal about an hour in it just stopped. As you do, checked my board and all the cables, all ok. As it was used I have no warranty, it's a whizzer cone and Eden said its about £90 to replace. Anyone know how to test the speaker before I have to get a new one?? Know why it would fail like that? The TH runs down to 4 ohms. Eden said a replacement driver will have a 6 month warranty but if it's likely to fail again due to the head I might replace it and move it on.
9. Warped Vinyl?? That looks pretty cool!
10. I run the B3K into a sansamp DI and get amazing warm overdrive, I guess there are many combinations that will get the tone you want, I have to say, I use two different cabs and have to tweak the pedals to keep the sound consistent between the two.
11. Ah, cool I like that expression, my dad used to say it! Not that I am assuming you are his age, I just like it! Was it with the Violet Bones boys??
12. Late in here but my vote is either a love tone meatball or a HAZ Mutron. I guess you could go boutique and get a build done as along as you have something to model it on?? I guess by now you have what you are looking for.
13. Of course, each man to himself! The Pro 10's will still offer protection just 10 DB's worth. Maybe your hearing was pretty poor to start?? They normally do a hearing test when you go for the moulds, was it good or bad? My ACS really enhance the bass end but my guitarist is very loud, hence the drummer plays harder. I clearly remember a point where before I got my ACS there was a song section that made me feel sick from crash cymbals and guitar freq's, it was a point that made me do something to protect my hearing. Good luck with the 10's hope you get on ok, you might be able to sell the filters for the 17's.
14. So the update is this... I ended up with a Tonehamer 500 and while in for a penny I grabbed a 1x12 Eden cab that sounds big for such a little one! Although I'm lucky enough to have some lovely basses I just can't leave the Sandberg alone at the moment. It just does it all. A few gigs in the diary so I guess I'll see you out there!

17. So Aguilar it is! Comes this week, got a great price on one from www.themusiccentre.co.uk Once I've dabbled a bit I will post up some stuff!
18. Thanks. I guess I should be pleased at a grand total of four welcomes?? Could have been worse I guess well anyway thanks for a warm welcome to the fantatsic four! I look forward to chatting sh*t about bass. So please go and check out my question in the http://basschat.co.uk/topic/262428-tc-electronic-vs-markbass/ see if you can throw some light and help a man choose!!
19. Hey Chris! Not too far up the M1 at Bedford. Doing a little midweek number at the horn St Albans July 9th so if your around pop down say Hi.
20. Still a lot of love out there for the markbass, so, does it piss over the aguilar or is it that fewer people have owned or tried the TH500?? Getting closer to making a choice, similar prices for these units so I really don't want to go, oh poo, wish I got the other one. Not many music shops close by for me to try them out first. I can probably get to a local one for the Tonehammer but not the markbass. Any ideas....I'm in Bedfordshire.
21. So without starting another thread I guess I'm now looking for opinions on the new small super light bass heads. The showdown is really this: Aguilar TH500 v Littlemark III (Tube version too) I haven't really played either but I've narrowed it down to wanting either. Both under 3kg both 500w into 4 ohms so it's down to tone, aesthetics and functionality. I can see a lot of remarks saying positive things about the MarkBass, is it better than the Aguilar? Both class D Amps, both with 'drive' knobs?? So c'mon let's hear it, I only have a couple of weeks to decide!! I'm going to run it into a 4x10 4 ohm cab, Sandberg TM5
22. Hi Steve, well you are close enough to go and visit BASS DIRECT then aren't you! New here myself but I've hung in there all these years playing bass and I'm still a bit sh*t.
23. Cool, wish I started out that young! Keep it up and you'll have a fun journey ahead!
24. Hi Basschatters. Danny, Bedford based player. Thought I'd say hi as I seem to be creeping onto here more and more. Done the rounds as a player in all sorts of good and cruddy bands and producer of a few decent records. More recently got back to playing and currently in a cool blues based set up. Check the latest release here. https://www.youtube....h?v=LTfJa-scsuU I have an eclectic selection of nice basses I struggle to get rid of! Mostly 5 stringers these days. A Status S2 thru in Walnut, headed, not the silly looking one A Candy apple red Music man stingray 5 A Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5 string maple A Sandberg TM5 aged sunburst A Squire 5 string P bass special in Champagne A Fender Jazz '76 Sunburst An Aria thingy in red. AMPS: Marshall MB150, Aguilar ToneHammer350, Carvin Redline R1000 So that's me, don't judge me on gear, judge me on comments and input to the forum I'm older than I look. bye then.
25. Took me 20 yrs to get a pair of the moulded ACS ones, best bass investment I ever made, cant/wont play without them now. Once you get used to them they are brilliant, a little odd at first plus you can attenuate how much DB cut you want when you order.
