Dreams work in symbols. The broken bass can mean that's it's useless to you. The "repair" can be the hope of rectifying the situation. The pub can just be a familiar setting where you'd need that tool. As Freud said; "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Is a broken cymbal a symbol to drummers?

Well, I know there was a dream thread from another bass chatter .I forgot that, but before I forget this dream , thought I'd better tell you about it .

All I can remember is me being in a pub on a Friday night. Can't remember who with.
Then all of a sudden, I trip over my steinberger bass.(yes the one for sale here);
The neck is broken and the body is splintered.
All of a suddenGrajam Noden(Denmark st. Repairs) offers to fix it .price £350, because he knows me ,

Weird,)

I have a few dreams like that Ray but usually after a few pints of 'Naked Ladies' from Twickenham Brewery ;)

OK, so I'm in the wrong about flipping, I have a choice not to buy, I'm not going to get an original 53 P for the £150 or whatever it cost in 1953.
My bugbear is somebody buying a P on FEEBay for £665 and putting it on here the next day at £1000. His 7th such move in a year.
That is tantamount to trading and sorry, I find it a bloody insult.
I certainly don't ask for mates rates. If it's just above what I think something is worth, I will offer a little below. If it's what i would be happy to pay, I will pay that.
Thank Christ at long last I am almost GAS free (I need to get back to 4 basses before she twigs my world didn't end at three) :P
Mean while, back at how long would you wait?

What if someone buys a bass on here for £665 and sells it on FEEBay for £1000 the next day. Is that o.k?

The pop/rock band played the Greyhound from about '73 to '77 and was called 'Factory', then about '78 we changed drummer, changed musical direction and changed name to 'Head On'.
Factory were a 'nearly' band, we always seemed to be 'nearly' signing the big record deal, 'nearly' doing the big tour. Of course, it never quite happened. Great bunch of guys and great musicians.
We were gigging 2 or 3 nights a week all over the UK and Europe. It invariably cost us more to do the gigs than we were paid, so always skint!.. but, I wouldn't change a thing.
As I said, 'Good times' :)

Great stuff!
There were so many good bands to watch in London pubs around that time. We were really spoilt as punters. I still think that one of the most polished bands was Bees Make Honey. I suppose they had very little commercial potential so never made it in the big time.

Dr Feelgood, Ducks Deluxe, Meal Ticket, Roogalator, Eddie and the Hotrods, Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers, 101ers, Stranglers, Lew Lewis, Eggs Over Easy, Average White Band, Kilburn and the High Roads, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, Racing Cars, Tyla Gang, Graham Parker, Chas and Dave, Kokomo, Moon, Kursall Flyers. You could see them all for about 50p!

Great bands and as you say good times.

Ah... the Greyhound! Played there many times through the 70s, Mostly playing pop/rock... although, IIRC the last time I played there (about '78) we had changed direction and changed the band name - playing a kind of fusion, but probably better described as Prog. Good times.

Always thought it was a good place to watch a band. What was the name of your group? I may have seen you there.

great stuff.. !!... have only seen incognito live out of all of those.. great to see someone with so much knowledge about these bands.. they get forgotten sometimes.. rod temperton in my eyes is real master of soul music..
I'd love to say it was knowledge but it's really a case of me being really old!!!

I think the Rod Temperton story is amazing and i'm glad that although Heatwave went through a period of being a bit ignored now seem to get the plaudits they deserve as a band.

Average White Band ?

Just saying .....
Absolutely. When they came down to London they played the Greyhound, Fulham Palace Road (before they had a record deal) regularly and were so tight as a band. They were just so good i think we all knew we weren't going to see them in pubs for long. Fabulous band!!!

8. These BBP type of moral guardians were always on the TV at the time. Just like those before them moaning about 'long haired lay-a-bout's' a few years before and 'those horrible beat group chappies' before that and Beatniks and Teddy Boys long before them.
I'm sure that these establishment types were paraded on the six o clock news and various debates simply for our amusement and great entertainment it was too.

good call Beta Funk.. mentioned Beggar and co and light of the world.. central line were very cool..around at the same sort of time though.. the first band that Bluey constructed was a band called the Warriors.. so ive just contradicted myself.. :D can i find there music.? really hard to find....love heatwave, but the only english man was rod temperton
I saw these bands live at the time and as you probably know they were a lot more funky live than on record. They could all kick up a storm on stage. Central Line were a really tight band. I still have The Warriors 'Behind The Mask' LP on vinyl. Oh, and that bloke Temperton didn't do too bad did he?

i think this is as early as your maybe going to find early UK jazz Funk unless its underground stuff... i could be wrong.. i remember when this first came out, it was revalation for british jazz funk.... followed them ever since, but the a very different band now. Great band but here was a thriving UK Jazz Funk scene some time before this. Two other Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick groups, Beggar & Co, Light Of The World as well as FBI, Central Line, Heatwave in their early days and Gonzalez before they went disco all flew the flag for UK Jazz Funk.
