Having owned a few beautiful Celinders, I have no doubt that this will be a world class bass. Christian built (builds?) some of the finest Fender type basses on the planet and his selection of timbers is impeccable. One of my Celinders had the Rio board and the 'ping' in note attack was astounding. I play short-scale almost exclusively now - if I was looking for a 34" scale as a main bass, this '62 would probably be top of my list

As a US Spector player, I can say with some confidence that this is an outrageously good price!

Thanks Kev, not relevant to me as I don't currently ow a Warwick bass, but an interesting and informative story, and an example of Basschat at its best (and in the spirit of why many of us first got involved).

I wouldn't bother with a status gig bag - in my opinion, they're frankly awful - cheap, not very protective, tend to stain coloured finishes. You could try a good guitar bag (but check internal dimensions) - a Fusion might work (the higher-end Fusion bags are excellent - very well designed with lots of protection

Lovely! Is this one of Christian's Rio or Brazillian boards (it looks quite dark) - I know he had a stock of both in the early 2000s?

I keep coming back to look at this, so beautiful. Two more strings than reasonable for me but an outstanding example of Martin's world class craft

I've had one of these - absolutely beautiful! They sound like an Alembic (!) with a very powerful fundamental and a piano-like clarity and complexity. They're quite a bright bass but with no lack of bottom end (it's possible to get a very full and round bass with judicious use of the sophisticated and versatile, if relatively simple controls)

I know there are a few helpful shortscale threads on BC - worth a look through. However, to answer directly here, I simply find shortscales easier to use (reduced tension, increased compliance), usually lighter, ergonomically efficient (less stretching for arms and fingers), and the tone lacks nothing - at least with a decently built instrument. I find that shorties are fun - quick and light - easy to pick-up and wander around with

Just bought a bass from Steve and the entire couldn't have been more friendly or easy - absolutely superb in every way. The bass was in better condition than expected, brilliantly packed and arrived quickly. Steve was completely honest and rapid at every step. An absolute gent and a credit to our community - deal in complete confidence with a guy who knows what he's doing and is incredibly helpful.

Just browsing in a music shop outside Mcr and spotted a Walnut ric 4003 - almost new (about a year old I think and appears un-played). Looks to be in perfect order - I have a pic if anybody's interested. The guy's looking for £1600. I'm not a lefty but if anybody here is looking for a left rck here's your chance. I used to use D'Addario strings designed specifically for the Danelectro Baritone guitar - just the heaviest four (E-G) obviously. Very light but lots of twang and super-easy to play. They were fairly easy to find on ebay. Love Dano Longhorns - proper pop star bass

this is incredibly well-priced IMO - absolute favourite for bass in some big name studios, and the choice of stage DI for some big name pros (personally, I much prefer these to high-end valve DIs). If I didn't have one, I'd have grabbed this ages ago

Lovely bass and I don't want to go too far off-topic, however, I'm pretty sure that there is a niche but serious market for a bespoke ergo/gizmo. If somebody was able to fabricate a tailored/custom, partially adjustable version to fit Alembic small bodied short-scale basses, i'd be willing to pay a realistic price (to reflect the design work and hand-crafting involved). Improving the balance, positioning and playability of an expensive bass is well-worth the additional outlay - to me at least. Scrumpymike, I think your idea is brilliant and I applaud and envy your skills. Of course, any version for Alembics would have to involve no new holes, but the strap pin at the heel offers opportunities for securing any device. A really practical and beautifully executed solution! I wish Alembic had thought of this
