Neonfly at Bloodstock 2010. Heard a couple of songs, liked what I heard. Went along to their set in a tiny tent with about forty or so other people. They blew me away and they're still at it five years later. They've supported Alice Cooper in Germany and some bands who are pretty big in the European Metal scene. Pretty nice guys, the gig after that I saw them in a bar in Doncaster. Playing to about five people, so they've come a long way since then.

I'm having to work very hard to not email Adrian to spec out a fairly straight forward active Jake, with a bridge humbucker in addition to the split coil (it's either this, or a Sandberg VM4, which I think would be quite a lot more expensive.).
I've wondered for quite a while now about the differences between PUP brands; as far as I can tell from the website I can choose Maruszczyk own-brand, Delano or Haeussel. My J-bass has Haeussels and they are very smooth, which is not what I want for this (though, that might be more of a function of their single coil-ness).
Anybody able to comment on any differences between the Maruszczyk own-brand and the Delanos? Who got what, and why? It's hard to AB them between different youtube videos (and potentially different rigs), but my current feeling is that the Delanos have slightly more wallop...?

Could always email him and ask? -

I may be doing a bit of Maruszczyk-shaped trigger-pulling in the next couple of days. We'll see...

I blame you lot! Been reading this thread for a couple of weeks and have today succumbed and put down a deposit on a 32" scale Jake 4p + in a natural finish and no pickguard. Control cavity round the back so it should look something like this:

Except it's going to have a 38mm nut and 17mm string spacing so have had to go with monorail bridge units. You are naughty, bad people, all of you!

Might do this on my next one to be honest...
Looks lovely. -
Hey guys, what does two P pickups do for tone? Just curious as I've seen tons of P+J and P+HB basses, but not P+P. Can anyone explain?
-
Hm, GAS.
-
Maruszcyk could probably do all that for you, for a reasonable cost. If you can try one it might be worth a punt.

There are several of these models available from Fender Japan, 50's, 60's and 70's. GAK and RichTone amongst others, have had them for a couple of months.
Think it's possible these were commissioned to run down parts in the factory? Or as a last swansong?

Ah now that's interesting! I didn't know about that. -
Really tempted to put a deposit down on another one if there prices are this affordable...
2 tone sunburst
Rosewood fingerboard
MOP block inlays
and two P pickups.
Lovely. -
Saw this over on Twitter,
More details would be helpful. -

It should be 8lbs 13, I believe. My baby was just born bang on 4kg a few weeks ago! Haha. They measure metric, but also state imperial, as people still want to know lbs and ounces when weighing babies, and basses too it seems.
Anyway, a couple more longish gigs this weekend and my shoulder is painful after recent neck and back problems. It might be time to start thinking about an Elwood L5 little more seriously...

I haven't even got mine yet and I'm contemplating another one... -
Anyone know if Sire are going to do a Fretless? A Fretless is on my GAS list now...
-
Just saw this on Thomann, does this mean Fender Japan are back and making things again?

Got some GAS that I thought was cured now, dammit. -

I'm just about ready to receive mine I think - it's about 10 weeks for the build....and it's been just over ten weeks....so hopefully I may have some nice pics and a review to post soon. I've gone for a 5 string Jake PJ. Whoop
Looks like there's a few of us in the Toon that's getting a few of these made.
Pretty cool stuff. -
Paying the deposit for my Jake now!
Woo! -
Mine's going to be less than 4KG. Not sure what that equates too.
-
A fretless/6 string
Happy for amplifiers though. -
Should be putting a deposit on mine soon, depends when Adrian gets back to me, he asked for neck measurements so I sent them along. As of today he's not replied.
So we'll see! Pretty excited to join you all though. -
Yeah, gonna pay the deposit once I've measured the neck.
How would I do it and what would I do this with? -

I ordered mine blind simply because I trust WoTs appraisal of them, largely because we both came from playing early 70's Fenders.

Yeah I'm trusting the forum with this judgement too, I see a lot of experienced BC'rs recommending them lately. -
Just put an email in for it!
Adrian's comms are excellent. A slight language barrier, but that's to be expected. Really excellent stuff all round though. -
Never seen an ESP bass for sale sadly, I love my ESP Alexi though.

Lovely. More basses should have black block inlays.
