Well... these threads crop up every couple of times a year...
but yes, nobody takes them very seriously.

When I was growing up and listening to all sorts... I gave these guys a wide berth
and my first instincts are very good. Nothing I've heard since has changed my mind.

They are a typical hobby guys band..no insult intended if people think this applies to anyone, ... where endless and aimless widdle or riffola seems to impress a tad too much... ( ok, that last line might be a bit OOT ) I am not sure their fan base gets much higher than that, tbh.
No musician mate I know rates them..or maybe they do, but never mentioned them, otherwise I'd know..
I respect the fact that they have grossed gazillions in their career as everyone knows, that in itself is not at all easy.

Lord knows what you must think of classical orchestral music.

Me neither (despite the impression I may have given earlier)!

I am just interested as to why a musician would rubbish the efforts of other (very established and wealthy) musicians who bring a lot of pleasure to thousands of fans/listeners... I find it difficult to fathom.

It's the lack of heart and soul accusations that bemuse me. They are one of the most heart and soul bands there is. And they've proved it time and again.

Well, it is a rather odd attitude that you display.

There are lots of bands that I don't particularly like, but I wouldn't seek out threads about them and post the purported reasons for my dislike. That just seems pointless and rather insulting to the people who do like that band... And even more so from a musician. :(

Don't take it too serious. He does it a couple of times every year :)

I don't really know if this track is typical... but I'll wager it is as it sounds like everything else I've heard
from them... not that I have dug deep to check them out, tbf.
My take is that it is proficient but there is no heart and soul ...and just no music in it.
That is about as polite as I can be.

Very successful over the years, no doubt.
Just because you are unable to perceive it does not mean it's not there. You keep on saying this sh*t and still you know nothing about them.

Just curious: what do you like about it?

I can't really say. I'm a Rush head. I love the song, the power, the dynamics, Alex's chords, how much they seem to be in the moment, that undefinable magic. Why?

They have my vote for being one of the tightest bands, if not the tightest band, on the planet. The sound that they can accomplish playing live is nothing short of amazing.

See I don't think they are, and that's why I still love em. They are a bit loose, especially Alex. Bands like Meshuggah are what I'd call incredibly tight.

Nice response from the OP about Denmark St whilst moaning about me and others making a comment about Shoreditch hipsters. Nice to see the owners have their Shoreditch uniform (beards) in place.

Actually I hope to go there and I hope they do well, but no need to bash Denmark St. Have you seen the development behind Denmark St.? Awful orange and green towers, is that the kind of thing you want for London regardless of what you actually think of the shops there? I mean do we really need more Starbucks, Tesco Metros and Jamie Olivers?

I was originally going to apologise for my comments as they upset you so much, but seeing your comment I now don't give a sh*t.
Ok sweetie.

Not upset at all.

They've already moved somewhere else. My band had the pleasure of being the first to play on the new stage last Friday by virtue of sound checking first... but I did love the old venue (as did Barnet, the manager of the 12 Bar - it's not always all about the brand you know Nige).
What I meant was they will probably survive. Delighted to hear they have!

I know, it was a quirky venue with some charm.

Yeah, as said before, Martin is older and ex V&R, but he certainly ain't no Chris Trigg. Martin is a wonderful man, honest, well natured and a great musician. Steve would be the younger one with the beard I pressume. I haven't seen him in years, he was at Hanks, though he left a long time ago and was in bands after that, Justin was with Chris Bryant for years, until Chris did a runner overnight. That is if it's the Justin I think it is.

Really glad good to know that these guys are in a cool new shop.
Thanks for this info. Yep, can confirm the shop is very cool!

Martin is the more mature beardy gent with the swept-back hair.

Various ex-Denmark St connections among the staff AFAIK, including most significantly V&R... but there is no Chris Tr*gg connection. At all.
Thanks. Yep, I met Martin, he is the guy who told me to help myself. The other younger fella was very cool too, knew his stuff it seemed.

Why do people have to slap all over sound demos of guitars or amps? I want to hear what it sounds like, not slapping. There seems to be a school of thought that if you don't slap, your no use!
Probably because the 'gear demo' is actually a stupid promo vid for the plonker showing off his/her slap skillz. Awful most of the time, and useless to anyone wanting to know what the kit sounds like.

I spent some time there yesterday as I had a gig at RichMix next door. The staff were very knowledgable, friendly and trusting, I asked if I could try some vintage Gibson Les Paul Deluxes (that's a guitar :)) and was told to help myself. They don't have many vintage basses yet but there were some reasonably priced '70s Fenders, a Gibson Ripper, a couple of Rickys. There is more there than is on their website I think.

The main new gear shop is at ground level and the vintage boutique is in a huge room in the basement. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well stocked it was, how the guitars were well set up and in tune, and at how reasonably priced they were.
