    Absolutely, I don't think anyone's saying it isn't 👍

IMO in the same way as a pair of Nikes made bespoke and collectible because some rapper has added his name to the design or some famous arty type has made them spectacular garish the actual end product won’t be any better quality than the mass produced item. It’s the extra time and cost involved in the limited run that you are paying for. FWIW my thoughts on the original vintage instruments that a lot of the CS shop stuff replicate is some instruments for whatever quirk of fate just play and sound better than others made in the same batch. If an instrument has survived 40 or 50 years it’s likely to be one of the good ones that somebody has loved and cared for. The ones that didn’t get loved for whatever reason have been broken up, burned whatever.

Spending 100 hours replicating the 1 in 100 or whatever won’t necessarily make it play or sound the same. It will probably look pretty cool though.

  2. Surely this same debate could be had about any bespoke built limited edition products vs mass produced items?

If you want something different and have the money to pay for a limited run item I can’t see the harm. Some people out there pay £1000 for limited run trainers. I think they have a screw loose but it keeps someone in a job.

My son went to this with group of friends and left early yesterday as the mood changed. It was his first festival and he said he wouldn't go there again. He went off to get some (overpriced) food and came back to find the tent slashed, camp chairs had been put on the fire, bottles being thrown etc. So they left.

Reading/Leeds and Boardmasters in particular have become right of passage festivals for teenagers who have just finished their GCSE’s. They go in big groups, can’t handle their booze and end up doing stupid things. The last festival I went to (free ticket to Bestival) was full of out of control  very young and immature teenagers who were in a mess. Several groups I saw were a danger to themselves and others around them. There is no way I would have camped next to these guys. I’ve been to several festivals with wasted people but they had the collective maturity to handle their various stages of intoxication.

Apparently there are discussions afoot about making Reading over 18s only after this year’s shenanigans. My daughter went to Reading and reported the same. Her group stayed awake all night and took their tents down due to the random groups of idiots slashing tents.

The people involved aren’t hardcore anarchists just stupid and immature kids.

  4. I would agree that the tonerider P pickup is one of the best budget pickups out there. I got a used one off fleabay for £20ish and wasn’t expecting much but ended up genuinely impressed.

On another thread somewhere is a link to an online shop offering brand new Squire CV P basses for under £290.

After a decent setup these are decent instruments. I’ve heard mixed reports about QC but of the ones I have played they are as good as any Mex Fender.
