During the lockdown and all that time at home, I bought a few basses I’d wanted a while, a couple of guitars too. And I bought at the right time. Some of them, like the Hofner bass and a Ric 330 spent decades on my wishlist.  I got great deals,  but now, prices are soaring on them in the US as well.  Nearly 2000 bucks for a standard American Fender?   Even some Fender MIM basses are approaching $1300, unthinkable a couple of years ago.  Players are fine instruments, but c’mon. Even regular Players are approaching $900.

I paid $1700 2 years ago for my lefty Ric 330 new. Lefties are now going for between 2300-2500.  Righties can score a new one for $2000.

I guess it depends on how we look at the situation. Are things getting more expensive or is currency being devalued? Two sides of the same coin but the cash in our pocket is worth less.

  2. Inflation is rocketing for several reasons including a supply side crisis and rising fuel costs. The situation in the UK is even worse as we have a weak currency. Most commodities are traded in $s. As the £ has fallen 14% against the $ and is anticipated to fall further costs will continue to go up.

Its a tricky situation to get out of. As we import more than we export the £ in our pocket will continue to be devalued and costs will continue to rise.

It's the sellers choice to sell to who ever they want for any price they choose. If they are happy to sell something for £500, 99% don't care if a private individual pays £500 or if a shop pays £500. The seller can't be expected to refuse to sell to someone if they need/want the money.

I understand your point of view, but if you want to buy something, and it's for sale at a good price, you've got to be quick off the mark! I've missed many a bass that I'd have wanted to buy because I saw the ad a bit late.

At the end of the day, the seller can choose who to sell to and what price they sell at. We can't govern that.

The same can be said for car dealers. I’ve been looking recently and a local Honda guy pips me to the sale every time and sells the vehicle on at a price increase. Irritating but they aren’t doing anything wrong, just making a living. If this site was called HondaChat he would definitely be a member and scouring the for sale section.

  4. The problem with cruise ships for me would be; Im not particularly keen on gyms, casinos, shops, buffets or crowds of strangers I can’t get away from. Being stuck miles from home surrounded by sea with all of those things doesn’t sound like something I would do for money, let alone pay money to do.
