1. Hi John, I can't believe this bass is still for sale. Its a great sounding and playing bass. The price is amazing, top quality components and woods. An OPL or some other 'clone' would be around the same price. I really enjoyed the bass and I'm sure I would have kept if I hadn't completely switched to fretless. Thumbs up for a great bass and nice guy. All the best, Gary.
2. Hello All, Price drop to £550, and will consider P/X of good quality 1x15 cab I've decided to sell my MM Status fretless due to my recent acquisition of a five string fretless (at last). The body is a '91 Stingray, beautifully grained Honey Sunburst with the P/up and electrics upgraded to a Duncan Bassline and 3 band eq system. The neck very playable, slim and comfortable. Amazing action with loads of mwaah and double bass growl in the low register. The range of tones is terrific, everything from Jaco to Pino, with a healthy dose of Dub thrown in for good measure. I'm looking for £600 plus postage which I think is fair. May be interested in a 70's reissue Jazz (Maple neck) or poss a Geddy Lee in PX. Welcome to try the Bass, I know S.Wales may be a trek. Chris(Beedster)had a look at it a while ago and I think he was impressed. Cheers, Gary. This post has been edited by garbev
3. Hi Alun, Greeting from sunny Maesteg. The MK1 is a 'passive' pickup in that it doesn't require a power source to work unlike Emg's. It should be quite straightforward to bypass any preamp but the output of the bass may drop unacceptably. An elegant but expensive option would be to modify or replace the preamp to one with a bypass option such as an East or some of the Bartolini's. To check out the levels I would suggest 'hotwiring' the p/up to the output jack, I did it once with a Bart soapbar and it was fine and quite liberating not having a Vol or Tone control on a gig! Hope this helps, Gary.
4. My search for a fretless 5 has at last come to an end! I got this on Ebay a few months ago, no bidders, so I made an offer, and got the bass for a very good price. I've had some work on the nut, dropped in a J-Retro and now this beauty sounds and plays beautifully. It sings, growls, amazing sustain and "swell" in the lower register, right down to bottom C. I'm very happy with this bass, plays like my MM/Status 4 string, amazing action, plenty of the "M" word. B string is great, taut and well defined, surprisingly so for a 34 inch scale. A bonus is that it sounds like a Jazz Bass with 5 strings......if you know what I mean. I've used this Bass on about a dozen gigs now with a few bands and the comments have been very complimentary(about the bass not my playing). On a R&B gig I did last week the "old old school" guitarist commented "Christ! that sounds like a PROPER bass but I can hear every note, even that low sh*t you play, weird, but I like it!"... a convert. Thanks Bacchus, and to Mr. East for his fab preamps. A very happy Gary. Oh yeh, it's fretless so it's got to be BLACK.
5. Bump for a cheap and fab Bass, any more trades out there? Gary
6. Hi Garry, I was lucky enough to find the plate on this site, used but not abused! The Duncan eq gives a lot more control over the mid range, great for fretless but the classic MM sound is there if needed. The "Slap" preset on the volume control is very handy, used in conjunction with the treble control on "cut" you can get a very smooth top end with lots of "air" but not too harsh. Cheers, Gary.
7. Cheers John, Its a great fretless, plays like a dream, sounds lovely, but I cant justify keeping it. I wouldn't play it and that would be such a waste. Gary.

9. I've been using a 55-01 with an East U-Retro Dlx for a while. Playability and feel of the Lakland is second to none, and with the east preamp the palette of tones is amazing. IMO better than the USA made 55-94 I've used for recording. Lakland (modified) all the way. Gary.
10. Emg Jazz Bass set plus Emg BTC 2 band eq mounted in Vol Vol Bass/Treble concentric pot config. Mounted on Jazz Plate, add 1 PP3, 10 mins soldering and away you go. Less than half price, £90 posted? Cheers, Gary.

12. Hi Dave, Glad to hear you're still having fun. i havn't got a new eub yet. After I pranged my car(not my fault) I've still got problems with my elbow and can't hold my left arm in position, so it's f/less bass for me for the forseeable future. Cheers, Gary. P.S. Wanna buy some used p/ups!!!!!!!!!!
13. Guilty as charged John! I just put a random bid in, never thinking I would be the only bidder. I used an ADA pre/power setup a few years back and was very impressed by it, but found the preamp a bit of a pain to use. I prefer the "Hands On" approach(knobs/sliders etc.) Can't wait to try it with the Navigator. By the way, hope you're still enjoying the Status. Cheers. Gary.
14. The Barts are curved, best to check your fingerboard, if its completely flat they won't work properly. The bass they came off had a very slight curve to the board and B to G sounded very well balanced. Gary.
15. The £129 is the upgrade from Logic Pro7. The full retail is £329 a huge price cut from Pro7 which was around £599.
16. The new Logic does look great, I think you get about 20gb of loops and surround beds as well. Absolute bargain for £129, and no XS key to lose!
17. Hi, I belive that both P/ups are blades, I had them installed in a 5 string and never experienced fall off on B or G strings. I think all the details are on the EMG website. Hope this helps, Gary.
18. You never know! On a different note I believe you know a mate of mine Derrick, very nice player. Ta, Gary.
19. Hi all, Crafter BA400 EQ F/Less, plays and sounds great. Excellent condition home use apart from very few gigs. Was going to hang on to this, but after purchase of F/less 5 I'ts got to go. No case I'm afraid but could meet up M4/M5 (Based in S Wales) Bargain at £140. Thanks, Gary.
