1. Just found this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Latin-Real-Easy-Book/dp/1883217709 Its not the official latin Real book but it is in bass clef.. Anybody own this or seen it? Publisher is Sher Music Co
2. Ah yeah I don't think they do a bass clef version :/ Thanks guys!
3. I'm purchasing the Latin Real Book however I can see it is available in multiple keys.. C, Bb and Eb.. A recommendations on which to purchase?
4. I did find it helpful indeed thanks! I've been hunting out some Michel Camilo transcriptions for his trio stuff with Anthony Jackson.. I'm using From Within as an exam piece..
5. I use my 2x10 Mark Combo for everything and I love it.. Though the best sound I've had was with the Little Mark head running through an 8x10 Ampeg stack cab.. Eargasm.
6. I think budget is going to be my main issue.. I'm kind of only looking to spend up to £400. I played pretty much nothing but my Stingray for three years and really enjoyed the wide neck.. Though now I've been playing my new jazz mainly for the last month or so I am warming to the thinner neck.. Though the string spcing on a Jazz is kind of the closest I'd want, anything tighter and I'm a fumbling mess..
7. Yeah I'll be using the octave up, or intend to anyway!
8. She's a beaut. The string spacing looks really comfortable too..
9. I've been toying with the idea of a six string for a while now and I've finally given in.. I'll be looking into purchasing early into the new year so looking for recommendations more than anything.. This is the cheapest 'well reviewed' one I could find.. Does anybody have any experience in the ESP model? http://www.gak.co.uk/en/esp-ltd-b-206-sm-ns-natural-satin/21478 They're retailing at £391 with GAK, is this the price I can expect to pay for an adequate six string? I go through a Mark Bass combo which has been pretty forgiving with lower-priced instruments so I'm hoping what I lack in guitar quality will be made up for in AMP.... ha Cheers guys
10. WHERE THE HELL CAN I FIND ONE That is all.
11. I'm gonna ask my lecturer to scan a few pages for me if he's game.. Even the e-book version is like £25.. Yeah I've love to have seen him talk about the matter, but I'd need a few sessions with the book first or I'd be baffled throughout..
12. Played on the Verda boat in Shoreham Friday with my Latin/funk band and it was absolutely rammed.. Our support was a Folk band who read Shakespearean Sonnets and a french magician in a Corset.. Peculiar.
13. Ah my lecturer was discussing this book with us. It sounds like an amazing read but the cheapest I can find it is for £99.. Knowledge is valuable I guess..
14.
It might be worth having a look at the 1950s work of George Russell for examples of Modal Jazz. Bill Evans was a member of his group before he played with Miles who gave Evans a lot of credit for what he brought to the band.
Ah excellent.. I'm pretty sure I can use Milestones as an example of the roots even if it's not the first song that did use it. But I know I'll have a stronger piece if I can really break down where it came from.
15. I have to do an essay for Uni about a pre 1970 track that has heavy influenced music of its own type and others. I'm thinking of doing Milestones by Miles Davis as the starting ground for Modal Jazz.. Would I be correct in saying it was the first Modal Jazz tune? I've tried doing some research and can't find another track credited before Milestones as the first Modal Jazz track so I'm assuming it was.. Also any insight into the track/sessions/album or general history would be greatly appreciated. References optional Thanks!
16. Yeah I haven't had a chance to jam it with anyone yet but you can get some interesting sounds on your own.. The guy who gave the scale suggested using it over Am.. I've put the link below for any curious folk.. http://www.mutantbass.com/exotic-chord-substitution-for-an-a-minor-chord/
17. Have been doing some reading on chord subs and this scale was suggested: C D# E F# G Ab B The guy advised it was part of the harmonic minor scale but I couldn't find a mode with this interval formula? The closest I could find was the Lydian #2 but then flattening the 6th. Does this mode/scale have a specific name or would it just be Lydian #2 b6 on paper? Thanks!
18.
Ah. Well that's different! Get the Barts/Fralins in and see how they sound! Just don't buy them new though. That way, if you don't like the result, you can probably sell them on for what you paid.
EXCELLENT. Thanks guys... Post-mod Pictures will be posted. (Also swapping out hardware n shizen)
19.
That said, why throw an indeterminate amount money into modding the Squier when you could sell it and use that money and the mod money towards an altogether better bass?
I just really love the feel of that bass, Ive had it since I started playing (sentimental value ha). Such a nice quick neck and I love playing it.. I was thinking of making it my Flatwounds bass, going for a Pino kinda vibe..
20. I was more leaning towards barts in the Squier.. I'm techtarded so really have no idea about pups. I'm happy with my Stingray and to be honest was more outlining the basses I have so the options were open.. I'm happy with my Jazz, but always looking to improve and as I'd heard so much about barts and then fraley's wanted to try something.. I think it's definitely going to be a mod odyssey for the Squier.. But now poses the question Fraley vs Bartolinis?
21. My lecturer has recommended me the Lindy Fralin Jazz Pick-ups for my Jazz.. Thoughts?
22.
Isn't the point of owning several different basses that they all have their own sound and doesn't that make them better?
Indeed.. And I'm not trying to make them sound alike, just better.. I think the P-Bass option is looking inviting but I can't afford to get involved in building a whole new bass! A Fear and Loathing quote springs to mind.. "Not that we needed all that for the job, but once you get locked into a serious bass modification, the tendency is to push it as far as you can."
23. A lot of people I know swear by Bartolini Pickups.. A friend of mine put some in his Ibanez and they sound amazing.. I have a Mexican Jazz Bass, a Stingray and a P-Bass (Squier) and a Fretless Tanglewood Rebel 4K.. I'm pretty sure I want to try putting some Bartolinis into one of these but I'm not sure which? I love the sound of my Jazz Bass because the fingerstyle is great as is the slap tone.. Do the Bartolinis sound good for slap styles? The Stingray again has it's own particular tone which I'm not sure I want to Jeopradise.. The P-Bass is tempting as it is only a squier, are these pick-ups good enough to make it sound as good/better than a standard P Bass? (I'm thinking put flat wounds on it and use it for a Pino Vibe?) The fretless really is just a piece of garbage.. But Could the Bartolinis give it that boost to become a fairly decent giggable piece of wood? Feel free to answer any questions, any advice is welcome and I'm not expecting one person to be able to help me with advice on all instruments.. Anyone who has used Bartolinis is greatly welcomed.. Cheers!
