I would have bid against you Ash had it not been for that nut width. I had a Shuker P/J which was built to the JJ specs and couldn’t get on with the nut width....

Considering selling my 1997 GS Gypsy 2 semi acoustic / semi hollow. 
It’s in great condition for 25 years old with a few minor dings and scratches and some slightly loose finish on the sides of the body. It has twin humbuckers, coil tap, vol / vol / tone / tone & 3 way pickup selector, brass nut, GS bridge.
These are carved rather than archtop type build so is similar to a Gibson Les Paul ES or a Midtown - just better....

Recently set up including fret level and crown and strung with 9’s. Incredibly playable and great sounding semi. If it said Gibson it’d be £1500 and it’s hand made in Partington (up north)!
It’s in a functioning but slightly tatty hard case.

Based on the Wirral but I can deliver or meet up within 50 miles or can ship it for around £30.

Mike bought my Laney Nexus head. A great basschatter and such an easy deal. Offer in, deal done, exchanged amp and money on the same day! What more could you ask for?

Good old eBay 2nd hand but in perfect condition. I’ve watched 2 recently and they both sold for under £300.

I just thought I may as well add a little thread about the much talked about Tech 21 VT 500.

I had been tinkering with valve amps, longing for the warmth and grind that only tubes can give you - or can they? I tried an Ashdown Little Bastard but didn't like it as the tone is very limited. Next was a little stubby which was better but still oddly lacking. Next in was an Eden E300T which was much more like it but then I got tempted by a Laney Nexus 400w tube (all the while the internal walls were starting to deteriorate with the increase in grown up watts). The Eden had to go as the tonal options from the Laney are amazing - as it is itself. However I do find that I need to tinker with the controls for different basses; my 1980 Rick, my Shuker jazz and my bitsa P bass.

Needing instant tonal gratification I decided to try the Tech21 VT500 and at £250 for a 500w 3kg head why not?

It is fantastic and to such an extent that the other amps are going on the market (including my Eden Metro combo). All 3 of the basses sound brilliant through it without being processed or sounding the same and without having to alter any settings. They each retain their own character which is always a worry with a vintage Rick going through modern amps. The controls are really nifty too. The character dials from flip top to typical SVT to the left and to a fiery driven modern sound to the right (not for me thanks....) The 3 band eq is powerful too, being active you get boost and cut. The drive control is nicely controllable but it's the bite that adds that little extra that cuts through the mix. there's also a blend control to mix dry signal with processed signal. I'm pairing it with a highly efficient Barefaced cab so the 500w at 4 ohms is plenty.

All in all it has all the zing I like, it doesn't need much to get a wonderful tone, it weighs 6 pounds and is astonishingly good value for money.

It was and that Eden head was surprisingly good but I've swapped about to a much lighter rig. Tech 21 VT bass does a very good valve amp impression with 1/10th of the weight and I swapped to an 18kg 2x12 Barefaced cab as the Berg had ceramic drivers and was 35kg. There is a theme here as I'm an old fart.....

Oh sorry about that. It's P width for sure but is quite a slinky profile and is made to feel even slinkier by the satin finish. I just don't like the P type 42mm nut width as much as a 38mm jazz width. Hope that helps?

Just had the Vernier gauge on it and it's 22mm deep measured from the dot marker in position 1.

I should have added that it's a satin finish neck so nice and smooth.

Also worth noting that Shuker’s post sale service is first class - nothing is too much trouble. You might have to wait (he’s a busy in-demand guy) but he always comes up trumps.

I was lucky enough to do a bass maintenance course with Jon and he's a true gent, not to mention a genius bass builder. He is always there to reply to queries and recalled this bass immediately (as you would with one of your offspring!).

I've used 3 Chinese Jazz width necks, all mop block inlays,  bound fretboard,  maple , gloss, 2 x '51 & 1x Jazz headstock. I've been very pleased with finish, stability and fret finish and around £80 each.

Had you noticed that the frets are softer steel at all? Mine didn't take a lot of filing to crown them and that did worry me a little as the frets seemed soft.

I’m not sure if this counts as a build (well it most probably doesn’t) but it’s a creation I’ve been hankering after for a while.

I have an orange Shuker jazz with reverse headstock, maple neck with block inlays and I wondered if I could create its P bass versioned cousin. I acquired a Mex P body in Capri orange, had a Dimarzio split P pickup, had a black badass bridge, had the pots needed so just bought some hipshot lyte tuners, a black scratch plate and was about to buy an American jazz neck when I decided to challenge myself.

Having seen various threads on the merits of Chinese necks, I took a real gamble on a maple neck with black block inlays (real ones) for £59.  The challenge to me was “how good can I make a crappy neck”. It came with roller coaster frets but the board was straight and the truss worked both ways so, as expected, it was out with the tools. I levelled the frets, taking a lot off 7 and 9 but did get them level.  I crowned and polished the frets and took the sharp ends off and 3 hours later fitted it. It wasn’t pre-drilled and the nut had split so I treated it to a graphtec nut I had too. So far I'm really pleased with the neck. The parts are what they are and exactly what I was expecting but the neck is actually pretty good - up there with the stable and comfortable necks I've played on much more expensive basses. It's not my Shuker for sure but it's not £1000 off it which is the price difference. Body £200, neck £59, pickups value £75, badass bridge £50, tuners £80, other bits £20.

What I have is an orange P with a hot pickup and a jazz width neck with block inlays that looks pretty good and plays very nicely. I’m really surprised that the neck adjusted to flat and held normal gauge strings but it has turned out really well.

Just wondered whether others had experimented with the virtues of Chinese necks with good or bad results. Anyway, orange (or maybe tangerine) bass No 2 pics attached.....

Its big Shuker shaped brother is in the last pic. Not quite the same, perhaps a slightly sun faded anaemic version but it's along the same lines.....

Up for sale (after acquiring a barefaced 2x12 cab) is my Laney Nexus 4x10 bass cab loaded with 4 x 200w Celestion neodymium drivers. 8 ohms, 27kg, custom cover and in great condition with no marks on the tolex and but a few scuffs on the bottom of the cover (but that’s what it’s there for). No farts, rattles or squeaks present when playing (apart from my walls) so all is good with the cab.

I also have the Nexus all tube up for sale too if anyone fancies the full rig.

Am based on the Wirral but can ship (at buyers expense), meet up or deliver within a reasonable distance (50 miles or so).

Up for sale is near immaculate my white passive Shuker P / J bass with contrasting black pickguard and black headstock. It is equipped with Bartolini pickups, passive vol / vol / tone and Hipshot light tuners with a bass extender on the E.  The only change I made was to put a Hipshot Kickass bridge on as I prefer them to Badass. It’s fitted with a brass nut, width at the nut being 42mm and it weighs in at 4.1kg. Neck profile is 22mm at the first position marker. The neck is also a satin finish so lovely and smooth to play. It also has Schaller locking strap buttons and I should have some locks to go with it somewhere.....

It has one paint chip adjacent to the neck pocket which has been filled with white nitro. It could disappear with a few more drops of white and some flatting. There are no other marks on it.
I contacted Jon about the bass and he said it was made as a one off commission for a French client and was based on his JJ Burnel signature P bass so this is a one off (see link to the specs https://shukerguitars.co.uk/basses/j-j-burnel-signature-bass/). It plays really well, as you’d expect from Jon, and is tonally diverse thanks to the pickups and is quite unusual with the white body with contrasting black hardware / headstock face.

Its a lovely bass and I’m loathe to get rid of a Shuker as they are elite basses but the nut width just isn’t for me and I always defer to a different bass (my Shuker orange jazz) so it needs to go to another home.

Comes in a Shuker custom case so it can be posted in the UK for around £35. Can go European for £50. Can be tried on the Wirral, I can meet up or deliver within a reasonable distance.

Up for sale due to a drastic change of direction is my recently acquired and immaculate Laney Nexus all tube 400w head with custom fitted Laney protective cover. 
This head is absolutely amazing and delivers a huge 400 proper big boy watts by virtue of the 8 KT88 output valves. It basically is the same as the MESA 400 head but has more shaping options and is hand made in the UK. In fact It has so many tone shaping options that you can’t fail but dial in your favourite tone. You can use the tube preamp, the FET preamp or a mix of both. It powers 2, 4 or 8 ohm so your cab set up can be flexed. It has 6 band eq, parametric mid controls, tube gain / level for grind / warmth control, FET preamp level control, bass / treble, presence, compression and deep controls. It has input pad for passive / active basses and standby switch completes the front panel. On the rear are the DI out and effects loop. It also is foot switch controllable with the controls being preamp, compressor, para mid and graphic on / off selection.

Its in perfect working order with no issues and I think probably under used. I’m based on the Wirral but can deliver or meet up within a reasonable distance (try me as to how far reasonable is).
