  1. Up for sale is my near mint Barefaced super 12 2 x 12" bass cab. There are no marks on the tolex apart from 1 or 2 minor marks on the bottom of the cab.

I've had it 2 years and not gigged it and I'd guess it hasn't seen much action as it's in great condition and sounds very tight still - in fact it sounds wonderful but I'm not gigging any time soon so its overkill for my needs.

It is 4 ohms, is a one cab solution and goes up to a huge 1000 watts. Dimensions are 76cm x 48cm x 34cm and it weighs at a very manoeuvrable 18kg. It has wheels for easy transportation. It also has a luxury padded cover with cable store and a vinyl cover with it.

Here is a link to the Barefaced website https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/super-twelve.htm

IT has been superseded by the Super Twin.

I'm on the wirral but it can be shipped for not a lot due to it's svelte nature or I'll drive within 50 miles or so to meet up.

    More pics to follow....

  2. For sale Status jazz neck, 20 fret, 1.5” at the nut, unmarked condition. Fitted with Hipshot tuners with Hipshot bass extender.

Fitted snuggly in my recent bass build but decided that graphite probably isn’t for me.

    £500. Will ship anywhere.

Sold before I could add the photos........

     - That there is a CIJ 62 reissue isn't it?

Not sure how to to identify it. Is it the pickup positions?

It's the headstock decal and the earth running from the pickup to the bridge that gives it away.

If you took the neck off there should be a JB62 stamped somewhere too.

I only say because it's not a standard CIJ jazz, it's better and more sought after and may help if you put it in the ad

  4. I use kovax 1500 grit pink scratchless sanding paper. It is truly amazing stuff, no need for wet & dry, just use with the curve of the body until ylscuff starts to disappear (youll start to sand the adjacent lacquer and thats what you want). Don't go too far but you should have plenty of clear coat layers on there. Once it's flatted out then use Meguires cut and polish.

When I went on a bass maintenance course with the great Jon Shuker he showed me that exact technique.

Both kovax paper and Meguires are miles easier to use than normal wet and dry / T cut.

    Good luck.

How about the other notes on the E string?

If it's only the open E you might suspect an issue with the nut.

If it's all the way up the neck then the pickup might be duff or set too low.

It’s particularly noticeable on the open E. With fresh strings the A, D and G are nice and zingy and then the open E is lifeless. I’d say that it sounds dull acoustically as well as amplified which may point to the nut.

Anybody used a brass nut on a Rick? Or would a good bone nut suffice?

    Thanks

  6. I should have added that trades are possible but only for a P ish bass. I've got too many jazz basses and only realised that I have no P in the armoury. A vintage Fender P would be perfect (apart from the nut width which is never perfect in a vintage P).

Up for sale is my 2015 Rickenbacker 4004 Laredo in Jetglo with chrome hardware. It’s had the controls changed professionally to volume / volume / tone with push / pull coil splitting. Pots are also 500k instead of 330k so it means that the bass is opened up tonally. The normal 4004s sound a bit dull but this sounds great with blendable pickups and a choice to run as humbuckers or single coils for that more vintage Rick tone. The original 3 way switch, volume and tone pots and Jack are included in case you’d want to send it back to stock (not sure why you would as it sounds great now).

Condition is brilliant, no nicks, dings or scratches. Strung with new 45-105 D’Addario nickel strings it plays great too.

Comes with case tags and original case.

Can be viewed on the Wirral, can deliver within 50 miles or so or can post with UPS for about £50 in the UK.
    Thanks for looking.

  7. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this issue on a 4001 or 4003.

Mine is a 1980 Jetglo 4001 and, despite fitting new strings (D’Addario super steels) the open E is always tonally damped compared to my other basses. My fenders always sound tight, crisp and zippy whereas the Rick always sounds like the E is muted which it can’t be as I’ve swapped the bridge for a Hipshot brass. I had wondered whether the brass bridge was causing it, or the nut which looks original.

Id read that other people have the same hole in the bottom end on a vintage Rick but just hoping that the genii on here are able to point me in the right direction to a possible solution....

    Cheers.
