  1. I’m new to the whole Helix thing..

I used to run the whole big valve amps into 410 cabs. I’ve in the last year gone from 2 cabs to a BF Big Twin 2 (minimum colouration) but still have my Darkglass M900 which I have all my eq settings flat on to try and minimise it affecting the tone coming from my Helix LT which I picked up a few weeks ago. Did a gig Friday night and very impressed using the Ampeg modellers through my rig...

Question is since my Darkglass has the Microtubes engine in this now seems redundant to me so what is the next step? Sell cab and head for a decent active monitor? Or keep the Big Twin and buy a decent poweramp? IEM’s I think are currently out of the question as I believe everyone in the band needs to migrate to them or no one at all? Got to say I was a massive valve amp fan and don’t miss it, the Helix is that good. We play in a loud rock/metal band for what it’s worth.

  2. Due to recently buying a Helix, my entire pedalboard is for sale. Prices are not including postage, I can get quotes or you are welcome to collect.

COG EFFECTS Custom made Gray fuzz (£160) - Bought from woodyratm on here who had the pedal built for himself by COG. What version are you trying to update too?

I read in the read me's that you have to go 2.80 before upgrading to 2.82.  My HX FX came pre-loaded as 2.52 I think, I followed that path and it worked fine.  If you are down at 2.3 I would try and get to 2.5 first, then 2.8 then 2.82.

Does the PC/Mac recognise the unit as being attached - I.e. its not a simple USB cable issues?

Currently on 2.3 but I need to get it to connect to hxedit and get it up to 2.82. My pc recognises it and I’ve also tried 2.3 hxedit to no avail. Have just uninstalled that now and also done the global reset on the helix. Not sure which direction to go in next.

I came across a post suggesting you needed a decent square wave to get an OC-2 sound. But given that the Stomp is not an actual synth wave generator but a synth "sim", I think it's going to struggle. Happy to be proven wrong on this though.

Impressed you decided to dive in at the deep end and not go with one of the more basic models!

You only live once, to be honest a couple of my friends have the LT and kind of pushed me in that direction.

  5. Wow loving these ideas, heard a few things on the radio lately on songs I wouldn’t really normally pay attention to and was trying to work the bass lines out in my head. Also soundtracks to films/tv series is another one, when I get a minute and pick my bass up I’m going to try and work some of these out.

  6. Good shout on both posts. Had a nightmare year with band members changing then having to get them up to speed on set, we’ve found ourselves playing the same old songs so it’s all gotten a bit monotonous. Going to try and take a step back and learn some songs I just enjoy listening to. Another issue I’ve had is not being able to set my amp up due to lack of room but we’re moving house in a few weeks and I’m going to make the spare room into a man cave so plenty of room to chill out and play 😉

  7. Ok so in short other than rehearsing and gigging in our covers bands I haven’t really felt inspired to play in the last year or so. We started to write earlier in the year but have still only come up with one decent song (I’m new to original material). We cancelled yet another gig this weekend due to a member having a few personal problems.

Feels like the whole sparks gone and the inspiration just isn’t there. Every time I pick up the bass nothing comes out. What do you all do to get back into it? Exercises to improve your playing? Maybe stick one of your favourite albums on and try and learn it? This years been chaotic but I’d love to finish work and look forward to picking up the bass and improving my playing or learning new stuff. Anything that just involves playing and enjoying it really.

Hi, what's the neck width at the nut on this bass? Also, is it a "C" shape / profile neck? I had a P bass from that era with RW board, which had a C profile neck, and it was lovely.... Wish I'd kept it! Lol

Hi Marc, I’ve just measured it and it’s 41mm at the nut. I’m not sure on the neck profile but I find it very comfortable.

  9. Up for grabs in Olympic White with tort pick guard and Seymour Duncan pickup. Strung with chrome flatwounds. I believe it’s from 2009-2010.

Tried to photo worse damage, a few little other marks but a great workhorse (Happy to get more pics if need be these were taken in the evening) Selling as I have one too many P’s and interested in maybe trading for a decent 34” 5 string. Not posting, pickup only or happy to do a service station meet or something.

  10. Met Colin yesterday and traded cabs. Another fine gentleman of the Basschat community,  he delivered the cab to my house, we had a natter and both went away happy. Hope to deal with you again Colin, absolute pleasure. :)
