11.
I don't understand this. Why did you have the crossover input and outputs, and the seperate crossover unit, rather than have a crossover built into the pedal? Or do you have more effects in the crossover loops, on top of what's in the effects loop? Sorry, i'm not sure if i'm interested
Hi there are several reasons for having an external crossover: 1) Yes you can add extra effects before the crossover as an option. 2) The crossover converts the signal to a balanced signal essntially acting like a dual DI box. 3) Using the crossover you can set different frequency points allowing either an overlap or a "hole" in the middle of the frequency. For the project I designed this for I wanted a gap between the SUB up to 125HZ and the high end above 250HZ in which the bass drum and the other bassesque part (played by a wind synth?!!?) sat in the mix. The reason that the crossover needs to be in its own loop, rarther than just "outputted to" is to do with the way the cueing system works. I understand that the combo of rackmount and pedal isnt always practical for everyones set up but there was/is method in the madness......
  12. Due to an new upgrade in my bass system I no longer need this beautifully made custom crossover controller and associated crossover that I commisioned max from sfx to build me last year. This is a fantastic bi-amp system that allows totall controll over your fx allowing your bottom end to be consistent despite what whacky FX you might want to put on the top end of your signal. I have no proof but belive that the pedal I commissioned ( http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=cstudy_3 ) was the inspiration for max's newish pedal X&M ( http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=xm ) albeit my pedal has many more useful features. It is essentially a dual DI aswell. An effects control centre if you will... Features, Fantastic handmade build quality and signal integrity throughout. 1) Switchable FX Loop for High end or ROS (rest of signal) path. 2) High (ROS) and Low (SUB) are switchable in and out, useful particually for dance music, play the high end the drop the sub in when the tune kicks in. 3) Mute switch mutes balanced (DI) outputs and amplifier output, but activates headphone output, useful if you need to cue your tone or playing silently before letting the audience hear it. 4) Ground lift and pad on balanced outputs like a DI. 5) Crossover allows two frequencys to be used one as a HIGH PASS and one as a LOW PASS, thus you can have a slight overlapping in frequencys of the two signals or a scoop (a hole in the tone) you may need this to allow other instruments through in a mix. 6) Constant tuner output 7) Ultra bright 4 coloured LEDS 8) Internal gain controls to create optimum signal level with the rest of your equipment. 9) Behringer Super X-Pro ( http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CX2310.aspx) and leads needed to hook it all up included. This is a really serious peice of kit and is very complex but essentially it was designed to make life easier for the bass player that uses fx. I have included the schematic diagram to help prospective buyers get their heads round it. £260 inc P&P £250 for collection form manchester If you have any questions dont hesitiate to ask!

  14. [s](NB Collection from South Manchester is welcomed and will save you cost of P&P) I have a pedal board that I have converted from an old flightcase. This is HUGE and should accomodate even the most FX crazed players pedals. It includes a captive six way (with a LONG lead) and Ikea lamp. While I was making this I wanted to raise the level of the board to there was no lip and thus have created a very shallow cubby hole area under the board its self indicated in the pics, this might be useful for storing leads or spare strings etc. Also there is a large amount (over spec'd prehaps) amount of grip underneath the board again indicated in the pics.[/s] [s]70GBP[/s] [s]50GBP[/s] £30 +?P&P [s]EHX Poly Chorus with new EHX power supply. This is in full working order and has box, although it has been gigged.[/s] SOLID GONE... [s]DOD Octaplus FX35. This is in full working order and has box, although it has been gigged. A lesser known pedal to my knowledge, very good octave pedal, seperate volumes for original and -8ve. Tracking isnt perfect but it never is on older octave pedals, tone is quite synthesque and has a filter control. I used to use this alonside my EHX Octive Multiplexer for different tones. [s]£30 [/s] £20incP&P to UK[/s] SENT TODAY RE P&P I have no idea as it is so heavy but i'm guessing it ain't gonna be cheap, I can find out if anybody shows an interest in this.
Bill Dickens demo at NAMM, he's playing a lot of notes outside of a regular 4 strings range, so I guess this would help with the tracking! NAMM Demo
Not really, the tracking (for pitch) is consistent across the full range of a 4-string and the extremitys of a 6-string (I am told and as this video proves). Yes the latency is longer on lower notes but this is down to the physics of sound, low notes have longer wave lenghts and therefore it takes longer for the Sonnus to recognise em. The main problem is fast runs of notes as i mentioned before. But again this can be vastly improved by damping with the left hand. (If your a right handed player!) Bottom line, you dont have to be Hooky or Bill dickens to make it work!
Thanks a lot Do you think it's suitable for not to fast lead synth?
Sorry mate I dont know what you mean exactly. Obviously you could hook it up to a synth lead sound via midi, you could definately play melodies on it but you might have to adjust your playing style for it to work consistently. Hope this helps

Mine arrived yesters spent quite some time checking it out. I dont have time right now to write a full review but i'll do my best to give you an idea. It has very low latency even on the low E, admittedly not completely un-detectable but never the less its quick. From manual - 8ms for a high e or E5 in midi parlance, - 32 ms for low E, 5 -stringers low B = 40ms. Note tracking is good, can switch octaves if your not careful to play carefully tho. Works reasonably well with slides and bends, (ive been using it with a fretless). Tracking rhythms of fast runs and or fast repeated notes is not so great, however this improves dramatically if you dampen the strings slightly, luckily ive been trying to get this technique down recently for roco prestia esque stuff and also to achieve a dubbier sound. the more ive played it the better it becomes, as my playing naturally accomodates its needs for clear defined notes. I'd really like to try out a roland or axon pickup system and see how it compares. It does have a touch of the toy about it aswell. This manifests its self as a very difficult to use tuner function (dunno why they bothered), only battery powered and a wrist strap!??!!! From manual; Carry strap You can use tis to make carrying the B2M much easier: wear it on your wrist to free up your hands; wear it round you neck so its always nearby. I think you'd have trouble getting the strap over a cats neck! How we laughed! Basically its good but dont expect miracles, the build quality and toyishness are off putting but for £70 odd you get an awful lot of bass to midi for your money.
  19.
I have a G2M, works pretty well on a standard guitar and seems a good solution although latency is still present. On bass it would not work well at all, I even put the signal through a Micro POG with just the oct up and still no real joy. The other problem I've found with the G2M is that I have needed to turn off all pitch bend options i my software to get a clear note. If they do a "B2M" I'll give it a go but I doubt the results will be gig worthy. Just my two-peneth.
Yeah I wasn't ever really considering the GM2 as a serious option but was looking into Analouge Systems RS35 and associated modules this is part of a modular synth and would convert my bass into CV/gate info for analouge synths this is another expensive option tho. Think i might just check out the MF-107 as this can give me a square wave the cheapest by the looks of things. Or go down the axon midi route Thanks for everyones advice

  21.
To be honest with a synth I think if you can go polyphonic you won't look back. It makes such a difference to synth lines, it makes them so much easier to play and there is no tracking error or delay. You don't necessarily need an unsightly GK pickup on the bass - you can install the whole kit internally, like I have, and it's extremely neat! ped (synth enthusiast)
ok interesting stuff, what exact kit hav you got ped?
