  1. I had a Dingwall NG2, which was an excellent bass. The only drawback for me was that it made it difficult to hold certain chord shapes further up the neck. I was still playing standard basses too at the time, so I may or may not have got used to it in time with perseverance.  As it was, I sold it on to a splendid chap on here, as it was a five string, and I was no longer needing a 5er. Had it been a 4 string, I would have kept it.

Eurovision is an celebrated event in gay subculture. I don't think there is anything controversial in that statement.🙂

Yup. Each year a couple of my mates throw a party when Eurovision is on. Don't know how that came to be a thing though...

My son knows someone whose sole (and entirely serious) reason for voting leave was "because they all keep ganging up on us in the Eurovision Song Contest".

    Sadly, it's not that unusual...

  4. The first bass I bought was a metallic pink Charvel. It was cr@p. I bought it on the advice of a drummer who said it was the best he'd seen. He was a massive pranny, as was I for taking his advice, even as a callow 19 year old. I traded it in and got an Ibanez Roadstar which was far superior, and I gigged it for years.

Alas, none like that round here, although a kindly haddock showed me how to set intonation.

Kindly Haddock has been added to my list of potential band names...

I've just been sent a couple of video clips of the first pro band I was in, playing live on a European TV show. the singers were pretty cheesy, but the band was good.

I was just a few months out of school and they were recorded in December 1968!

No, I'm not putting them up here!!!

Pics or it didn't happen... 😉

A band playing a gig to any backing tape isnt a truely live band.

On a related note, I notice an increase in the use of pre-recorded keyboard parts in quite a few of the bands I listen to.  I don't have a problem with that per se, as it may remove the need for another player just to play 2 chords or whatever, but I guess it could be a slippery slope...

Who on earth would make that assertion? And on what basis?

Based on posts in various threads, I would have agreed with the covers assertion, and the poll is currently sitting at over 49% towards covers.  TBH I would have expected maybe 70%.

I gig in an originals band - not so much these days, as some of the venues have disappeared during Covid, and the festivals situation hasn't yet picked up fully. Plus, I'm back on shift work, and our singer works in the (understaffed) care industry and frequently has to miss rehearsals and gigs to work. Fair go, as someone's welfare is more important, obvs.  I enjoy most gigs, but it's not something I HAVE to do.

I wouldn't mind getting another project together, just to write and maybe record. I program pretty much all of my ideas into Guitar Pro, and some of them make it into FL Studio productions when I have time.  I need to investigate the whole production scene a bit more....
