1.
This could be fun. Subscribed.
I know, I'm also wondering who is going to snap first and write a technical and consise post out of anger that's entirely correct.

  2. Well, if I ever got to that stage in my life where I needed to write a will, I'd either send stuff over to my 2nd cousins in Oz, or I'd donate them to my primary or perhaps secondary schools.

  3. Also, read this sticky if you havn't already:

Most of it should be recovering familiar ground as you already play guitar, but it's worth a quick read.

  4. Do a search, they come up occasionally in topics but I don't think there's a thread for them.

Personally, based on my Ashton electo-acoustic guitar I'd probably avoid. Nothing wrong with them per say, but just cheap and kinda thrown together.

  5. Well, if you want information, you could do a search:

Here's one topic you might want to read:

Here's the search results, all 3 pages of it:

  6. Are you bothered about changing leads?

If not you could do it really simply with one box. It'll have one footswitch, the switch just engages an automatic (or set with a knob) drop. On true bypass it does nothing, on stomping you lose the extra by the amount you've set, obviously it still requires lead changes and to remember which instrument is in your hands in reference to the box being on or not. But it's very simple.

If you want both basses plugged in all the time, an AB box with level controls on just one of the input channels would do the trick, just plug the active into the input with the knob, the passive into B, and set the active to be the same level. Then just stomp when you switch instruments.

No need to make everything too complex. There's probably some commercial pedals that do it, or at the very least, there will be circuit diagrams available for a spot of DIY.

  7.
ah yeah ive seen them on the sandbergs.
Are there any advantages to the single pole? Or just a different design with the same outcome? Xx
Well, you'd assume as the volume of one is going to be greater than the volume of the 2 seperates that fit into the same space that there would be a difference, if they're actually magnets one would assume they'd put out a stronger magnetic field, or at least, a wider one at the very least.

  8. Judging by some of these memories and stories, I've been doing Uni wrong. Might scrape a 2:2 (deffo got a 3rd though) as it was bloody boring, did get drunk a bit, but I seem to be lacking the oodles of sex and general fun. I can only assume that if it's meant to be the best part of my life I might as well pick a fight with a train now.

  9. I just took my Peavey Microbass and bought some £20ish Sony headphones (which are a bit crap tbh).

I've used the amp a few times when I've bothered turning up to the music related soc that I belong but not too often.

Basswise, halls are generally pretty secure these days due to students having laptops and stuff, obviously varies from uni to uni, but normally only Security and yourself have access to your room via a key/keycard/some other method so just take the one you're gonna want to play. As a side note, you're much more likely to get broken into and robbed in private housing.

I left my MIJ Fender Aerodyne at home and took my Squier VMJ, mostly because I'd bought the VMJ to test out a "normal" jazz and it's not an expensive instrument.

Personally, I'd ditch the pedals though, have a good critical look to see if you need them for your sound (or indeed, if you'll need them if you join a band or such) because space is at a premium in uni halls for the most part.

  10. I find something ironic about the fact that the people going on about why a bassplayer from a signed million selling international band needs an instrument worth over £1.5k are the people who have items like vintage Fenders and Musicman basses all worth around the £1k mark easily at RRP, if not more now in some cases, and aren't in signed bands playing on an internation scale.

    Just sayin', that's all.
