1. Hi all,

As I do a fair bit of recording I was thinking it would be fun to get my own mic for my Trace v4 1x15(+horn) combo. What would people reccomend? I am interested in all price ranges, from cheapo to top of the line - it would be good to know for reference. I like a very clean and deep sound with a really clear top end, at 8khz.

I haven't ever miced up this amplifier and would love to hear it. I can't remember the mic we used to use on my Mesa 1516BE/400+ rig but I am trying to find out. the studio has moved since and everything got muddled up/replaced.

Cheers

2. Ack you have got me looking again!! The Behringer would definitely be a good buy as a first step. It will probably sound great to be honest, but may not last long if you gig often.

Do our effects experts have any ideas? In fact show me anything you can find, I would like to see everything you know of!!

Hi Chris! Are you going to be there? Would be cool to meet you if so... I will bring a special bass just for you to see!

4. The Holy Grail looks a bit limited to me and the fact you have to use a specific wall wart is a pain - the Holier Grail looks better specced but is now discontinued, though avaliable from ebay etc..

5. Aha! Reverb! My fave effect. I use it all the time, in a tiny dose through my rig and when recording. It just adds some real 'air' to the sound and playing without it now just feels weird!!

I used to have a Boss RV5 which was excellent, it had some delays built in to it too which was good. You can get them, and the associated RV models used at the good old Ishibashi U-box.

I use the reverb in my pod rack at the moment which is superb and very flexible, but recently for the usual GAS reasons I have been looking at spending money on a completely absurd reverb tank or one of these: http://www.vanamps.com/reverbamate.htm which is just stupid as it would be literally throwing money away! lol.

Let me know what you go for - one feature I really like on my reverb is the fact you can EQ the reverberated sound, plus choose from various sized rooms, predelay and all sorts.

6. Hi Craig,

The badass will not fit under an ashtray I am afraid. The grooves - I wouldn't worry about the depth as you can always raise the saddle to compensate (although some have mentioned it might weaken the saddle if they are too deep but I wouldn't have thought so) but I would be more worried about the alignment - what was right on someone elses bass might be out of line on your own bass. On my mexi Jazz bass I had to file the G string slightly off to the right in order for it to be down the right part of the fretboard. For this reason I prefer Schaller bridges with the rolling saddles which you can adjust left to right.

Cheers

7. I have a number of 'quality' cables with 'lifetime gaurantees' and the only one to bugger up is a little monster cable I have! Probably coincidence but I won't buy them again!! I can't be fagged to send it off for a refund either

8. I am back home now and except from not having a voice and being quite stiff I should be ok for the bash. Looking forward to it immensely - Will probably bring a light amount of gear to be honest, the Bacchus 24 5er perhaps.

9. very interesting. used in conjunction with a pod you should be able to cut the latency, or are we talking several seconds here?

funnily enough i saw the thread topic and thought you were after a cheapo in ear set... i was about to say can't you pop into yer shed and rustle up something! i should have known!

10. not you too mate! come to my hospital instead and we can cheer eachother up with pod chat!

my fusion bans, soon to be heard on sky sports, are goin to have as a live rig a 12u box with guitar/bass pods and power amps and sennheiser in ears, plus the miked drum kit and a powered pa. simple and cooooooool!

13. hello mate sorry for the lack of punctuation in this message but i am in hospital at the mo but you get these mental swing down tv/computer things, pretty mental but the keypad is lacking lol. you know i will persuade you to get the xt pro son its mental. i never expected to keep mine after getting it in a trade but as a recording, gigging and practise tool it just rules. only downsides i can think of are that you have to spend a long time playing with it to work out what sounds best - but i know you love a fiddle... when i use in ears i have set each bass to sound as close as it does to the v type and honestly it is like having my anp strapped to my head lol it sounds brill. lukeward hasone too after playing withh mine and when he brought it over we set up a chuffing perfect patch for his warwick. you are welcome to come try mine but it might be a bit fa lol but i do have the manual and more than happy to send it to you, it is much better than trying to read the pdf.

i tend to use mine like this

in ear
vigier 4 eden wt300 direct/room
vigier 4 f/l swr sm500/ea1x12/reverb/chorus(saved but off)
bacchus jazz alembic/eden410/reverb
bacchus 24f bypass/reverb

live through trace all have a bypass patch with some eq and reverbs etc saved ready to switch in. compressor is amazing, too

i have some clips of my basses through it, at my website you can hear em on the my gear page.

downsides - fairly expensive, black is a bit boring, presets are terrible and enough to put you off

upsides - record via usb no probs, solid unit, all in one, if you know what ur doing you can serve up world class results, great online support and interface, as many ins and outs as you need... errm... buy one son

when i said i was going to sell my trace i was happy to make do with the pod no probs. i use it all the time and you know when you hve gigged and recorded with a piece of kit and you love the results you build up a real love for it.. thats what i am like with it. to me it renders the whole 'digital is crap' argument out of the water!

hope thats ok for now mate i would like to have written more but this keypad really is ballz. i am being cut open shortly so speak to you soon.i might be away for a few days recovering!

cheers mate see you soon i hope
