  1. Let us know how you get on. The one I had was pretty clean and even had the rubber feet and battery door so I was also worried about pulling the paint off. It never made it to my board but always wanted one to compare other pedals against, as the tall font is such a classic.

If you’re tempted to use something else for convenience and to avoid worry ‘out and about’ you might like to try the Sovtek Deluxe Muff, which in standard mode sounded almost identical to my tall font (though I know they can vary a bit). Also the Valco KGB fuzz matches the sound exactly and has a lot of other sounds within it too. I sold my tall font because the KGB was so spot on. In particular one of the modes flattens out the mid scoop quality of the muff so it works much better live. At least for my setup.

It’s the ridged box with the plastic battery door and the 4 screws.

OK. Yeah a bit tricky. First of all I'd recommend that you use a 9v battery snap to power it so that once it's on your board you don't need to take it off.

Two options spring to mind, depending on the tolerances of your particular unit. You could take off the green front cover and run a cable tie vertically up the case so that it's hidden with the cover on, and secure that to the board. Shown in blue here:

Or take off the inside cover and do the same across the base plate:

Other than that, you could use an Aclam pedalboard which secures pedals with little clamps, which could be quite a nice way around it.

  3. Rehearsed for an upcoming gig but sans keyboard as his son has been in hospital in Brisbane so he’s flown out to be with him. I’m not sure he’ll be back in time for the gig and half of us aren’t up for doing the show without keys because it’s quite important for our sound and ties many of the songs together.

it’s quite a small room and I couldn’t hear myself so well this time because I moved nearer the monitors which were carrying one of the guitars because the lockup where he keeps his gear was inaccessible last night. Luckily he had his pedalboard and a guitar handy but all in all it felt a bit of a bodge and I’m not sure what’ll happen next week - best case scenario the keys player is back the day before the gig, so no full rehearsal either way.

Bit of a tricky one because we don’t want him to feel bad or feel like he has to rush back.

Demo finally up, although this sounds so utterly dreadful I suspect it's a broken unit. My Hyperdrive sounds nothing like this.

    Sounds like a Game Boy

  5. Apple music for me because:

    - Audio quality (lossless)

    - More album focused (used to annoy me how Spotify nearly always recommended singles)

    - Artist credits in full (this is how I usually discover new music)

    - Recommendations are good but the Discover Station seems to work really well.

    - No books/podcasts in the interface to clutter it up

  7. The most sought after muff for bassists. Absolutely seismic sound. In excellent condition compared to many that you see around. Comes with box pictured and original battery cover (nearly always missing) plus a better fitting 3D printed replacement.

Come and try it in York if you think you’re man enough.

  8. You’re looking at the classic! This one was bought from Soundgas Ltd who specialise in servicing and repairing vintage analogue studio gear. They calibrated and serviced the pedal and fitted it with a custom UK power supply and a true bypass.

The pedal is in great condition and sounds amazing. Why am I selling it then? Believe it or not, I actually find the digital reissue suits my bass better and frankly I could use the cash since wife’s redundancy.

I don’t think you’ll find a better example in the UK. You’re welcome to come and play it in York.

    Cheers

This is possibly the coolest thing ever. It could only be improved by racing stripes on the bass.

😊 Thanks Rich, the bass pre-dates the racing stripe 'competition' mustangs so I had them on the strap instead. I actually switched the strap in the pic for a slightly wider one but the same colour. They're really nice straps!

  10. Yeah it’s exactly right, quite surprised as the red of my bass is actually quite dark. I’ll bookmark the ones you have just in case I ever buy a JMJ! I think RightOn do a blue one which might match, too.

I live a matching strap but also cannot do a strap that clashes. Hence I normally go for black. I think this red one is the first coloured one I’ve had for ages!

  11. I just got this back from Soundgas who have converted it to true bypass, if that counts?

@MM Stingray 62 interested to hear how you're getting on with the Haz Mutron. The two compare very closely, I reckon the Musitroncs has the edge in down mode and perhaps has a juicier treble range, but the Haz has(!) some great features as standard (like true bypass) and has a slightly quicker attack, I think. I love them both.

  12. I came across Washington Miniaturas on Instagram and had my own mini bass made. Great comms with the guy who makes them, it took a couple of weeks and only cost about £120. It’s about 30cm long and even comes with a cute little stand!!

I highly recommend him if you’re looking for a miniature version of your own bass (I mean, who isn’t?). Check out his work on Instagram, they’re brilliant.

  13. I like that BC acts as a standard. If someone is prepared to pay for a listing here, then the same item on another platform immediately has credibility. I've seen people list items and include a link to the BC advert too. Same thing to a lesser extent if there's a listing on Reverb/eBay although for those you don't pay upfront, so not quite as safe...

  14. Hi guys,

I'm looking for some spare screws for my Mustang bass saddles. I must admit the different ways of measuring screws make my head spin, but basically I want some longer than standard to give me some wiggle room when downturning.

Assuming the 60's saddles are the same thread as newer USA models, I wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction??
