1. It's not visually entertaining in the slightest, and not sure if it's enough criteria to choose a bass from, but the Thomann shop site has a fairly extensive sound archive for the many of the instruments they sell at decent audio bit rate. Have no idea through what tech they are compiled though, but they do seem to be fairly distinctive.
2. I do find both Fender and Gibson re-finishing the same instrument models over and over for decades and stating their uniqueness and high pricing lies in only so many produced with the same colour scheme and minor hardware set up within basically a factory line pretty incredible way of controlling the market, good for their business model, but whether that's actual true value for the recipient is a personal thing I guess. Does kind of skew innovation in the market at an affordable level a bit maybe. I'm probs a bit out on a limb with this though.
3. If Overwater pulls out of this partnership due to poor take up, I could imagine these are going to be some little gems in the hands of those who have them in the future as their quality within their place in the market is so exceptional. I would love to buy this even just for the aesthetics / versus price, but owning two from the line already I could just not justify it presently. Good luck, ....though it's odd to say that at this price!
4. Quite a remarkable talent. Bet her dad's got a big grin on his face on the big soul train up there in the sky, or where ever it meanders!
5. Have a great night on Sunday, I missed a show in Glasgow some months ago, sure hope I get the chance again soon. Found this video some time ago. It's an amazing track from the Insurgentes album from a few years ago. Apart from the amazing playing (from the credits on the cd, I just spotted the bass on this is played by Tony Levin, though I've seen live performances with Nick Begg playing it later on, but the two guitars kind of dominate the proceedings on this!) The video has been put together by someone unrelated to the original but it is quite mesmerizing. There is an explanation about it in the about section. I'm sure Steven Wilson must have seen this, and I doubt he would disapprove. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8rgPo6fJyI
6. Only just got a copy of the first album by Polica, Give You The Ghost recently, and had a cheeky listen to new album Shulamith. Gorgeous production and innovative use of percussive timings. Bass player Chris Bierden is very central to the overall mix too which may sway some interest, and no six string slingers anywhere in sight!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4EWfdEyoLs
7. Sorry can't help with moving it on as I already own one. Have to say though that I recently acquired an EB MM Stingray and I also have the Contemporary OW/Tanglewood J 2 band active, but of all three this is strangely the one I always pickup without thinking about it. Wonderful quality and feel, unbelievable value in my novice opinion. Hope someone who plays for the joy of the instrument picks up a real bargain.
8.
Hey Andy Do I get you right? You've lived for almost fifty decades? Whoa! Impressive! best, bert
Bit of a slip, might be a subconscious one though Bert, just from the way it feels at times!
welcome Andy.....fit like?
Nay bad thanks Leen!
9. Thanks neepheid, and Hi from Ballater, where I think we are generally considered as a part of the greater regions neepland.
10. Just a quick Hello from the foot of the Cairngorms in Scotland. Been using the forum for some time for the wealth of knowledge you all collectively create, but felt guilty lurking in the shadows and never thanking anyone for the wisdom I'd just unearthed whenever I needed to know anything from the Lower register. Late taker up of the Bass, toyed with guitars in my youth without too much to show for my rather ill disciplined efforts. Picked up a bass in the last year as I head towards my fifty decades mark and do wish I would have done so a long time ago, although my mind set is probably better today than it was when I was younger as my only motivation today is the simple act of producing a favorable sound in-between the sips of my mug of cocoa, instead of world domination and the subsequent rock'n roll haze and screaming fans which might have been at the forefront of my mind in my teens, slightly obscuring the practicing of scales and intervals at that time. Have two four string Tanglewood-Overwater Jazz basses at the moment, passive Classic version and the active Contemporary model, the latter which I purchased from the most honorable forum member eubassix a few months ago. And I also have a Godin fretless Acoustibass dated from the early nineties. Many thanks and Hellos to you all. Andy
11. Bought Davids Tangle/OWater Contemporary Jazz, it now has another happy home up North. Got here very quickly, extremely safely, and as a result of a very pleasant and considered transaction with excellent packaging and brilliant communication all the way. Great trader, top person! Many Thanks
