1. These are great minimalist and very light EUBs that can produce a surprisingly authentic tone. Mine's function was to fill in for acoustic upright when transportation was trouble, that's not an issue anymore so it has become redundant. It's in black, great condition with only one minor dink (headstock collision!) that doesn't affect playability or looks, I'll put up pictures of in due time. For immediate reference it's the exact model (although not the same bass) as this previous sale: http://basschat.co.u...te-one-eub-sold This video (also the exact model) provides a very good impression of the kind of tones you can get out of it: https://www.youtube....h?v=MtfBF7lgDRI It comes with it's fitted gig bag and a separately purchased hard case as well as an additional attachment which emulates the body shape of an acoustic upright, it makes it a more authentic experience for those who are used to the body of an acoustic. Looking for £600 (reduced to £500) plus shipping (or collection from Chester). As it has a hardcase it can be shipped safely. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! Thanks and all the best, Oscar
2. I'm currently putting together an interactive resource addressing the question: "How Can Extended Bass Techniques Be Taught Usefully?" The question is a double meaning. The two questions being asked specifically are firstly whether extended bass playing techniques can be taught in a way that is useful practically and musically in a real life setting, and secondly whether the teaching of extended bass techniques can be useful from a business perspective. In the process of creating quite a comprehensive body of work (which I'm going to make available publicly online and in hard copy) I want to exhaustively address the current body of work existing. It's something I've been interested in and followed for a long time, and there are some obvious ones such as Jean Baudin's Mechanics of Tapping, various tutorials by Victor Wooten, a DVD by Michael Manring, related things like Super Bass Slapping by Larry Graham etc. but I'm sure there's a lot more out there. A marginally higher percentage of this boards community is probably interested in these things than in the general population, so I thought that I would extend the question to you: Can you direct me to any existing resources, works of value, or share thoughts (personal or otherwise) relevant to this discussion? Thanks and I hope there is enough interest out there for a process of engagement and discussion to develop throughout the work! Feel free to follow me on Twitter for the most up to date news. All the best, Oscar

4. Here's a video demonstrating some of the techniques I'm looking at in the blog http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBaEP1aG2tA ..Can anyone give me any clue how to embed a video into a message here, by the way?
5. Hello all! I've relaunched my music blog recently and amongst music theory geek out posts on Debussy, I'm posting a developing series exploring my approach to modern 'solo bass' approaches. The initial post in the series includes a video demonstrating a few approaches. If anyone is interested in this topic area please follow and engage through comments http://oscarsouth.wordpress.com/blog/ Thanks and all the best, Oscar
6. I don't have a functional use for this, so it's up for grabs Collection from Chester or delivery available
7. Thanks for the replies guys. This is a concept which looks simple, but it really blew the lid off my playing in terms of musicality and approach. Another big game changer for me was in an approach to the application of tetrachords (four note fragments taken from modal shapes) which I spent a while developing. I will post an article on it and how it combines with the idea of Broken Arpeggios well soon.
8. I've posted a new article on my music blog http://melodictraditions.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/broken-arpeggios-fretboard-shifting-concept/
9. This isn't bass related specifically (hey, it uses a bass effects pedal! ) as much as general performing arts talk. I thought I'd put it to you guys for ideas anyway, a creative bunch as you are. This is a video for a project I've been working on lately to try and cross over music and dance in more and more transparent ways using the Source Audio Hot Hand 3 technology. The purpose of this post isn't so much to share it (I do hope you enjoy it!) as to ask, after watching it and seeing what we're getting at, anyone got any really out of the box ideas to throw at us or avenues of discussion to open? Obviously the next step is to bring in their next generation of USB control, which allows us to control, well.. pretty much anything!! So there are really no limits! And of course, any feedback on this or if you can point me to any similar work by others which I should be aware of (its a new field for me) would also be very much appreciated. All the best! Oscar
10. couple of vids of rhythm sec messing around when guitar&vox failed to show up for rehearsal: Fun stuff
11. Haha, yeah I saw these Schoenberg tomes in the university libraries! I read a book called 'conversations with Stravinsky' not too long ago which was fascinating. JapanAxe, thank you for your correction, much appreciated I actually type it right the first time and spellchecker told me it was wrong!! Haha So anyway.. much later than planned the new post is up. I went into real detail with this one and it turned into a proper Opus! Its also the most personally fascinating harmonic analysis I've ever carried out, and really ended up revealing some amazing 'universal musical truths', which music theorists and likely jazzers in particular are going to love!!
12. Thank you so much for the positive response! Big thanks to everyone who checked out the blog, I'm genuinely heart warmed to see an interest and appreciation of such a specific endeavor I remember trying to be a smart arse in music theory classes trying to correct the tutors analysis of Bach chorales.. I must have been such an annoying student! I'm also a big fan of Stravinsky, the idea of polytonality has always fascinated me. I had a brilliant chat with an incredible composer/arranger called Simon Niblock who told me about the idea of 'double diminished chords (or arranging melodic minor harmony in a way which accentuates two independent diminished triads) Anyway, I'm now typing up a new post which will expand on the previous one in a more 'analytic' manner. It'll be up in abut 30 mins! (after I get a bite to eat and finish the thing off )
13. I'm currently in the early stages of posting a series of articles through my music blog on the process of analysis of the Debussy piece 'Arabesque No. 1'. I'm looking very specifically at the in depth functionality of the music through a variety of analytic methods. If anyone feels they would be interested in reading this, please follow the link below! http://melodictraditions.wordpress.com Thanks, and all the best! Oscar Ps, If anyone is interested in reading anything in a certain direction or from a specific viewpoint on this topic (or even anything somewhat related), please let me know, and I'll post it up as part of the series!
14. There's really no explaining this piece that will do it more justice than just listening to it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxSw--2b-yY Original composition Cottier-South 2012 Enjoy! Feedback and comments welcomed!
