ooooh this one is easy.....every one is a winner ...always thought this was the perfect album.....and the bass playing on it is sublime.
That would have been my choice if it wasn't for the dire Jamaica Jerk-off

Booker T and the MGs?
On 11/05/2022 at 17:08, Barking Spiders said:Listening to some of Stax, funk, Philly stuff it struck me that there are quite a few bands that started out as a house band for labels and got be to be successful in their own right. I'm thinking of Booker T and the MGs for starters. So, any other house bands or backing groups that did well for themselves without their leaders?

Billy Preston must have had the best CV of anyone!
Bands / artists he’s been involved with include Little Richard, Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Stones,
Joe Cocker, The Funk Brothers, Johnny Cash, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Sam Cooke and many
many more. An amazing talent.
I'll see your Billy Preston and raise you Joe Osborn, Carol Kaye and Danny Thompson

You are right that comedy singles were a thing back then eg Funky Moped (Jasper Carrott).
If I recall correctly, most people bought that for the B-side which featured his Magic Roundabout routine

My daughter started at 8 on an Ibanez Mikro. An excellent little bass in it's own right.
She's still using it 5 years on (but casting not so subtle glances at my Lakland Precision 🙂).

If you include most people in ''most people'' rather than most BC'ers then it's mostly everyone but for that Beatle guy.
I think that “most people” are probably unaware that Macca played bass. As far as they’re concerned it’s just another guitar.

I have it on good authority that they can count up to 11

I was wrong - it seems that Ian Anderson did play the recorder (according to the Wiki page on the recorder).
Paul McCartney did so too, on Fool on the Hill.
I've seen Tony Visconti play recorder at a Ralph McTell concert.

I need to check but pretty sure no truss rod in my Kala.
If it's a hollow body with a round hole, the access is via the sound hole.
