  1. I saw British Lion (Steve Harris solo band) at Leo’s Red Lion in Gravesend this evening. It was brilliant, and just as good as when I saw them in the same venue a couple of years ago.

I find it amazing that he gives just as much effort and enthusiasm playing in a tiny place like this as he does playing at The O2.

I managed to shake his hand as he walked past at the end as well.

Played in Dartford last night. The Orchard Theatre was closed down as a result of defective concrete

that was found in the roof in September 2023, and our gig there soon afterwards was cancelled.

However, due to amazing work done by Dartford Borough Council and Trafalgar Theatres, they

managed to construct a brand new temporary theatre venue close by to The Orchard, which

was built and opened for business in late November 2023 as The Orchard West, only 9 weeks later!
Absolutely incredible feat, and shows what can be done when people work together.
Businesses in the town were worried that they would struggle without the theatre bringing in people,

and the council listened and reacted accordingly. It was ready for the Panto season!
Anyway, we had around 800 people in ( holds just over a thousand) and it went really well. Great

audience and the theatre crew were amazing. A long drive back though, dodging muppets on the

M25 and M1 as well as long 50mph speed restrictions for no apparent reason meaning I got home

just before 3am. Bit of lunch soon and then am driving up to Scarborough this afternoon for my

favourite gig with our acoustic duo. Severe weather warnings in place so crossing everything.

That theatre is just a few minutes up the road from me. The land that the temporary theatre sat on was a huge patch of bare earth for years since an old coop was demolished.

Quite a feat to get it up and running so quickly

  3. From Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son:

    Can I Play With Madness

    The Evil That Men Do

Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son

All classics. I was 8 when the album came out, but was fortunate enough to see the Maiden England tour 4 times in 2013/2014 when the toured it again.

Got my mini board set up now. I’m so impressed with the Digitech drop pedal, a great down tuner and surprisingly great octave pedal too!

I’ve got my eye on getting a Digitech Drop. It’s looking like the band will be down tuning a couple of songs by 1/2 - 1 step.

A lot of places seem out of stock at the minute though

That’s slightly worrying! I recently bought a WL-20 and have been using it live with no problems. I plug the two parts together last thing when setting up so that they can find a clear channel to work on.

Its really annoying, as it only seems to work properly at 50% of gigs. I pair it last after the other items are set up, but often just get a weird pulsating noise from my bass.

I prefer using the Boss units rather than the Lekato ones as they don't move around as much

cool, thanks for that, I have tried my guitar one (on the IEMs) but it dropped out on a really big gig (during soundcheck) so I went back to a lead but the lekato was perfect on the guitar (weird) also on 5.8. I have used the guitar one very succesfully on quite a few gigs last year ( no drop out or anything)

At our gig last week we had 2 x lekato XLR on 5.8 and I was using lekato guitar wireless on 5.8 and everything seemed ok.

i tried to soundcheck with my Boss WL-20 which I prefer to use, but it kept cutting out so switched to the Lekato guitar wireless.

I am finding more and more that the Boss WL-20 doesn’t work properly at gigs anymore.

what lekato are you using for your IEM @markbunney?

I am using the Lekato 5.8ghz XLR mic transmitter set with Behringer P2. Its a bit bulky, but once it's clipped on my belt, I don't really notice it.

It has really clear sound, and I have had no issues with it in the 6 or so gigs I have used it for now. I got mine off eBay for about £65, they are more expensive at Amazon at the minute, but the price seems to fluctuate all the time between Amazon & eBay. At our last gig, we had 3 things running on 5.8ghz with no issues.

Pleased the Lekato has worked out.  As I said earlier, for the money it has to be worth a try.

re. distance from router.  I assume your Aux out that you feed is XLR; can you not simply get an XLR to minijack lead and site it away from the router?  I actually run an XLR across to my side of the stage so that the Lekato is nearer to me.

I do the same with my lekato 5.8, I plug an xlr cable into the mixer and the other other end into the transmitter and haven’t had any trouble. We stated using one for a wireless mic as well, but that goes straight into the mixer

I would never have had the courage to dep without having done some jams.

The two key points are (1) no one dies and (2) usually someone leads the song who wants to do it and unless it's really well known everyone else is flying by the seat of their pants, not just you.

I once had the conductor of a symphony orchestra explain the detailed structure of his guitar song to me and a drummer. We just looked at each other and managed to dive in at the right point.  The rest was guesswork...🤣

I have been to one before, and kind of cheated as I knew the band and their set list, and so learnt a few of there songs in advance. Unfortunately the ones I had learnt they played as the warm up to the evening 😂.

in the end we had a run through of a few that I hadn’t prepared in advance and it was fine.

There is a local one this Wednesday, and I am going to try and get to that.

  10. I keep advertising for dep opportunities on Facebook and join my band, but limited success so far. I got offered a couple that were subsequently cancelled, and then one on a date that I couldn’t do.

I am going to start going to some local jam nights to see if that leads to anything. These are well out of my comfort zone as I like to be prepared and rehearsed before playing, and am not at all comfortable with jamming and improvising, but will give it a go and see what happens.

  11. I tried to put my KZ ZS10s into an old ACS custom molded pair of ear plugs. They just about fit sat at my desk, but I think if I was moving around playing they would fall out, unless I taped them to my ear, which I don’t really want to have to do.

Am  now looking at getting some ACS molded IEMs,  but I also need some new molded ear plugs as my current ones are 5 years old and don’t quite seal properly. Need to decide which ones to prioritise as can’t really justify getting both at the minute

I've had this with Club Foot, where the original bassine was recorded by the guitarist, and the live version of the bass solo is very different to what's on the recorded version.

We played Club Foot on NYE and I have to go into 100% concentration mode for the solo. To my amazement, people were singing along to the bass solo, something I’ve never experienced before! This meant I had to concentrate even harder, to try and zone out the drunks!
