I play in a rock/metal covers band and write and record at home, also play some guitar.

I was seriously considering Anagram based on functionality and form factor. (My gigging board is massive)  I've yet to see if it can do my core tones that aren't DG based (Harris, Sheehan and Duff mainly) I'd also like 3 parallel paths ( can anagram do that?)

Then yesterday I saw the QC mini...great form factor for me with full QC power... Do you think it is worth the extra £200 over the Anagram?? I definitely prefer the idea of modelling rather than captures... My experience of NAM captures is very...meh...

    Thoughts?

I got the mini QC yesterday, and have only had a quick go on it, but first impressions are that it is awesome.

I tried the Anagram, and the Nano Cortex but returned them both.

So far I think it’s worth the extra over the Anagram. I like the ease of use of the cortex cloud for downloading presets and captures without having to hook it up to a PC.

The QC mini has factory presets for Steve & Duff, and they both sound great.

Yeah, I saw those, but I'm still wary about investing that sort of money into this bass if I'm still not going to love it. Not to mention, I downloaded the schematics, and it left me very confused. Wiring basses goes over my head. I could handle soldering a couple of wires to an existing pot, but EMG's solderless kit looks overwhelming, and I have no idea how to integrate with the existing preamp.

Even if I could figure out how to intergrate them into the existing preamp, it looks like the EMG's are active only. I want to retain the passive option.

Nice, but more money than I want to spend. The Hils ticks the right box in terms of value for money.

Not sure where you live, but last time I was in Andertons they had some HILS in the store to try out

  3. I can’t comment on the HILS, but I do have the Ibanez EHB5MSBSP with the Fishman Fluence pickups which is awesome, and might be worth checking out if you like the form of the Ibanez EHB.

The side dots on it are also useless though!

Was there anything you didn't like about it, Mark?  I love mine for home use but not totally convinced for gigging so also debating return...

I think overall it was too much for my needs, and I had concerns over taking something so expensive out for pub gigs.

I have nothing negative to say at all about the unit, it sounded amazing with loads of options, and it was so easy to use (probably helped by all the YouTube videos I have watched on it!!!).

For home rehearsal, I still have a little Boss Katana Go which does the job, and I don’t do any recording or anything like that, so ultimately it was more than I needed.

I was pleased to finally get to try one, after having been looking at them since they came out, and I wouldn’t rule out getting one in the future if my circumstances/requirements changed.

  5. I have just sent mine back :(

It was an amazing bit of kit, but after spending a bit of time with it I came to the conclusion that it was just overkill for my needs.

  6. Fender Duff Mckagen Signature Jazz Bass Special inc fender gig bag.

I have owned this since new (approx 10 years) it’s been gigged a lot but in overall good condition. It has a few small dings & marks which I have photographed.

It has a really slim neck, and very low action, and is lovely to play.

It has the TBX treble boost circuit.

It’s the original signature model, not the newer one, and has since been discontinued.

Old GAK demo video is here:

The colour has aged into champagne/off white colour.

The input jack washer kept working itself loose, so it has been glued, but it can still be undone.

I am playing five string basses now, so this isn’t getting any use.

    Collection from between Dartford/Gravesend.

Happy to send over any more pictures/videos if you would like them.

I haven’t  sold anything on here for a while, but I could prob dig out some old transactions/members for any feedback.

    Any questions please ask

In other news the new orange amp is very good. Gigging on silent stage with IEM so relying on anagram for a convincing amp tone and this is nailing it, probably my favourite model in here now

My Anagram arrived a couple of days ago, but haven’t had chance to try it yet.

I used to have the Orange Terror bass amp, so am keen to try that new model

Agreed, you really have to make the best of it. All bands are going to be faced with a gig that goes south sooner or later. Just don't carry around a lot of guilt over it. It's usually  not the bands fault

    Daryl

Yes, have definitely had worse gigs and played to less people!

It was nice to play on a stage and have a bit of space, and the organisers were very friendly and offering us free drinks etc.

That was a nice change from our last gig where we had our fee withheld until we had paid for the two pints of coke that we had had (but that’s a different story!)

  9. Played at The Allington ACA near Maidstone for NYE and it was absolutely dire!

It was a ticketed event and there were less than 50 people in a massive room, including 10 kids!

We’d been booked for ages, for a decent fee, but it was a long night with no atmosphere, especially with having to do 3 x 45 minute sets which kills any momentum.

Apparantly there had been some politics with the committee, which had led to a lot of people celebrating elsewhere, and people not wanting to pay £20 a ticket to go somewhere that they go to for free every other week when the pubs in town had bands on with free entry for NYE.

That said, we played well and a few people complimented us at the breaks, and also apologised for the lack of people there.

Took both of my Ibanez 5 strings, but just used the EHB all night.

Incredibly, yesterday I called up Bass Direct and they assured me they had some in stock, I ordered one and it just arrived today as promised.  Colour me impressed!  Thomann still can't guarantee a delivery date after having been paid for the pedal two months ago - they just agreed to process the refund. Now to get to grips with the pedal!

Did it come with a power supply?

I have seen some listings saying it does (Thomman) and some saying it doesn’t (Andertons).

    thanks

Am currently leaning towards the Nano (but will probably have changed my mind again by tomorrow!!!!)

the thing that puts me most off the Anagram (and the full size QC) is having something so expensive on the floor, at great risk of being stepped on by the punters and having drink spilled on it.

my Shure wireless pedal was almost taken out by a glass of wine at Saturdays gig, and even my brand new amp got a soaking!

Well I ordered a Nano in the end, but then have returned it.

it arrived just after the launch of the new V2 captures, and it did sound great, but ultimately I found only being able to have 1 capture per preset quite limiting.

Also I found it annoying not being able to turn an effect on and off, and having to have two different presets, one with the effect and one without it.

I was very impressed with the sound quality of the captures, especially the Tech 21 GED 2112. Aside from a Boss Katana Go, this was my first foray into digital effects, and I liked them a lot. I also found the app quite easy to use, and set up presets etc.

Its a shame that Neural dont have a device that sits between the Nano and the full size QC, but I guess this is where the Anagram fills the gap.

When I used the Nano powered by a USB battery pack, there was quite a lot of interference, which is something to watch out for. It was fine through headphones with the battery pack, and fine with the power supply through the amp, just not the battery pack.

yeah had a look but nothing came up when I filtered for bass and cabs

I read on some of the Neural DSP forums that you have to delete and reload the app for the new V2 captures to appear

Having owned a QC, the capturing process is great. If you want to capture your own gear and you’re not interested in having lots of fx the Nano will be awesome.

If you’re not bothered about making your own captures and you’re looking to experiment with more effects and complex signal chains then the Anagram is the way. I’ve not used one but I’ve heard some pretty amazing and reliable reviews.

The HILS are on sale now in Andertons - £479 for the 5 string and £399 for the 4.

I snagged the last gunmetal 5 - not sure if they will get more in.

I’ve ordered the Rose Gold one, but it’s not due in until January.

I had ordered a Strandberg Boden from Andertons a couple of weeks ago when they had them on offer, but it turned out to be ex display which was damaged so I had to cancel the order.

The Hils is significantly cheaper, but still looks pretty cool.

  15. Played in Sevenoaks on Friday. My new amp had developed a fault and its replacement didn’t arrive on time. As such for the first time ever I had to go straight to the PA and use in ears.

The gig went very well, but I found it a strange experience not having an amp behind me. Ours is quite a basic PA and so we could only put a bit of bass through it, but it all seemed to work OK and the crowd all seemed to enjoy it.

Good idea, it’s a bit taller than I would have liked but I’m sure once I’ve got some cables going in and out of it I won’t notice.

Still on the hunt for another case, just going to be shoving it in my bag for the next few weeks 😅

Is the case that comes with the Anagram not very good?

  17. The Tech 21 Steve Harris does this, I have one and it’s great.

It has two channels with shared EQ, but seperate volume and gain controls and is capable of the sounds you describe above

  18. Played in Maidstone at the weekend. Venue was pretty busy and all there seemed to enjoy it. We normally play as a 4 piece but were a guitarist down last night and played as a  3 piece.

Gave my new Markbass combo a run out and I was impressed with the sound & volume it gave out.

i am trying to gig with the least & lightest amount of gear possible, and this is definitely  helping with that!

    Hi all,

I've got a super pair of custom made ACS ear plugs. They work very well but the day after wearing them my right ear hurts like hell. The pain subsides over time and by the day after that it feels normal again.

    Anyone else experienced this problem?

Could the pain be caused by me not inserting/removing them carefully enough?

Any thoughts welcome. I hope I can continue using them as they are 1000% better than any other regular musicians ear plugs I've tried over the years.

Hi - I get this as well sometimes. Do you use the comfort cream when you put them in, as I find this helps a lot, along with pulling the top of your ear up and out as you put them in.

How long have you had them, I have to change mine every few years due to changing ear shape.

I once had to have a pair remade as they weren’t quite fitting correctly. ACS have great customer services and adjusted them for me, and they were much better.
