Hi all. I've been struggling with my current rig for a while now (Orange TB500 and OBC115). I don't get the enjoyment out of it I need and am looking to change things up a bit. I find the Orange too dark. I've got some cash together and some gear to shift so I'm starting to plan what I may get. Really I'm looking for suggestions. The tone I like is Duffs tone on this video http://youtu.be/1AjNJV8JEYU Not saying I'm a Guns fan but I like the way he plays and structures his lines along with is tone. Very similar to that sound I'm looking for. Think he's maybe using a pedal in this video. Also it's pretty similar to 3 colours reds bass tone too and I really like that. What are my options amp (and maybe pedal) wise for getting this type of tone? Suggestions on Cabs and heads, new or used. You can see from my signature what basses I use. Mostly it's Fender types with a PJ config. Pedal wise I Don't use anything at all but I do have a VT Bass pedal, just don't use it. Any help would be great. Feel free to nudge me for more info if that helps. Thanks.
Amazing looking bass you got there. 2 questions for you: weight and neck dimensions (I believe the Mike Dirnt has a chunky neck). GLWTS mate, stunning P-Bass!
Just checked the weight on the scales we use for parcels at work. It weighs in at 4.1kg which is approx 9.03lbs. Hope that helps.

GLWTS mate, stunning P-Bass!
I wouldn't say the neck was at all chunky. My Hoppus neck is wider and fatter. I know the spec says thicck but I don't find it that at all. I would say the Dirnt is more a medium C shape. The nut width is 40.4mm. I'll check the weight when I get in but I'm guessing it'll be between 8 & 9lbs.

Hi all. Up for sale is my Fender Mike Dirnt Precision bass. It's a cracker of a bass, has the original 51 style look, Rosewood board, 55 Contour, Custom 59 pickup (only found on the Dirnt bass), Badass bridge (Fender no longer do this model with the Badass bridge). It's just killer to look at and killer to play. It's had a few dings and chip which have been touched up so they're not as obvious at first glance but you can see these in the photos. Looking for [s]£400 plus shipping[/s] £375 including mainland UK shipping. May consider trades. Feel free to post a reply or PM with any questions. PJ pickup balance question. Also help me choose ;-)
sirmuppet replied to sirmuppet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well said guys. Hamfist, you talk a lot of sense. Currently I have a P-bass special and the P pickup in that is a Bare Knuckle 58. Sounds great, but the lower output jazz pickup doesn't match it. In my Hoppus bass I have the SPB-3, sounds great but I have to turn the volume down otherwise it distorts most amps on a normal setting (that I or most others set it up for their basses), just too high output but does sound great. I would want to go down the hum cancelling route. Was looking into it. One thing I did notice was a lot of people who had gone for Pj config had issues with a split Jazz pickup rather than a stacked one. Their issues were that a split one has phase issues with the P pickup. You come across anything like that? I'll check out the Dimarzio one. Though I would like to get the same brand and am a bit put off by Dimarzio as they have a lack of P bass pickups. Thanks. -
Also looks like all the grounds are going to the 2nd volume rather than the tone. Could be your issue. Was thre a battery under the pickguard?

PM this guy: http://basschat.co.uk/user/7835-kiogon/ he'll sort you out with a wiring loom for whatever you need.

PJ pickup balance question. Also help me choose ;-)
sirmuppet replied to sirmuppet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Gotcha. So really there's no way to tell how well 2 pickups will mix from the specs on their site? -
Hey guys. I have a couple of basses with the PJ configuration. I want to go for noiseless (stacked) J pickups so I thought about replacing the P pickup as well and get a nice balanced set. I know from previous posts that buying say a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound P-Bass pickup and J-Bass pickup will yield a stronger sound from the P-Bass pickup. Obviously that is due to a P pickup being naturally more powerful in output to the J pickup and it being further down the neck where it gets a stronger signal from more string vibration. I hope my understanding of the above is correct, if not feel free to correct me . So, since I'm replacing both pickups, how do I choose a set that are better matched or balanced with each other? Currently I find that when I put my J pickup in with the P pickup that it brings the overall volume down slightly and gives a slight more treble to the sound. I've looked at the specs on Seymour Duncans site but to me the SPB3 12.5k should be higher output than the SPB2 22.4k, but it doesn't look that way, am I missing something? If you guys need more info from me just ask. Thanks

Cool. I'll give them a shout.
-
I just checked. They seem to be .100, .85, .70, .45 Will see if I can get a set of prosteels to match that or similar. Would contact Fender but doubt Fender UK or USA would know as it's Fender Japan.

Hi Ed_S Thank you so much for the offer of the strings. That is really kind of you. There is not need though, but thank you any way I think you may be right int hem being thinner. I have a set of digital calipers I'll take home to find out. I too am starting to use Pro-Steels. I love the ping you get from them and it seems to last well into the break in period. Hope you enjoy your Aerodyne, am loving mine Thanks again.
-
Hi all. Not sure if anyone can help. I bought an Aerodyne bass last week. It's one of the new blue factory special runs made in Japan. My question is, what strings are on it as standard from the factory. I don't think they're Fender strings as they all have brass ball ends. The shop didn't change the strings, so it is 100% as it came. I just think these strings are great and they sound brilliant. Would love to buy some more. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks.
