I got this cab empty and in poor condition, I have recovered it and re grilled it with fender tolex and grill cloth, I bought 2 brand new eminence kappa 15s 400 watt 8 ohm drivers. The cab is wired to 800 watt at 4 ohms. It sounds great with no rattles, deep, tight and full sound, lovely but I have tooooo many cabs and this has no sentimental attachment or real need to keep it and to further justify, last in first out etc etc. Buy yourself a period cab with modern performance. Located in Byker Newcastle at the minute. £225 Ono Or swap for interesting things?

It is heavy but I can lift it myself without too much effort, probably average 4x10 weight? The precision was a bitsa i put together a few years ago and swapped with bassman Sam, wish I never parted with it, was the most P sounding precision I've heard.

My latest project, I got an empty, late 70s 2x15 bassman with no drivers in, I sourced some eminence kappa 15s 400 watts 8 ohms, tolex and grill cloth, semi stripped, one afternoon and some evostik later we have this, an 800 watt, 4 ohm beast Not sure if I want to keep it or my existing 76 4x12?
Depending on how old your Tonepump circuit is there should be a trim pot on the preamp that allows you to reduce the output. Spector recommend setting it at about 70%
Hmmm my circuit seems to be a sealed box gules to the side with no visible screw or hole.

A couple of issues/mods I would like to do to my otherwise very happy purchase. I bought an original euro 5 with EMGs with tone pump circuit. Vol. Vol. Bass. Treble. Firstly i would like to turn it to vol pan b&t so wiring diags would be appreciated? secondly is there a way to reduce the very hot output? Thanks Dave
Where the hell do you keep all of these bloody things?? Have you built them their own extension onto the side of the house or something??
Unfortunately some of those have gone the journey earlier this year, I have a couple of new ones but down to 22. They spend their life, some on display/play duty and some in a cupboard on the landing. Must admit selling about 8 was quite cathartic and I no longer have the collecting for collecting sake mentality. Still look upon the majority as an investment and a pension of sorts which was the original reason for picking them up.
The debate thus far, for those joining us at the bottom of the thread: BRX - Youtube clips are fluffing wonk for getting a true impression of a sound. David - Yeah, but you get a rough idea.
Brilliantly diffused Pmsl

surely your experienced ears, after years of exposure to analogue and digital recordings, compressed digital media of various forms.and indepth expertise on the physics of sound and technology has given you an ability to make an assessment? We could discuss the psycho acoustic ability of the brain that enables us to hear familiar and unfamiliar sounds with potentailly, millions of variables in propogation and environment, yet still we are able to judge them accurately, but im sure youve considered that in your laughable assement of my ability to form an opinion
-
Watch it, listen to it on studio monitors, make reference to other basses and samples on the same media over a period of time, both known and new, formulate an opinion and then express it. and that is laughable in what way?

Is it my ears? the top end on this bass sounds so synthetic and plastic that i cant even listen to it. I really like open and articulate high frequency but this is just awful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WFrPr_40d8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WFrPr_40d8

I've added foam around my pedals to stop lateral movement, doesn't matter how much Velcro I seemed to use there was always one a drift when i open it, but not anymore

No, 65 per band per month I know that's cheap but i do know other local bands pay about max 350 a month for unit space so its not too much and 3 or 4 ways a lot cheaper than going to a rehearsal room.
That's really cool, how do you come by something like that? We might be losing our regular rehearsal space in the next few months and wondering if long-term renting a place and making it 'our own' might be cheaper than using a 'normal' rehearsal studio...
I would recommend it, split the cost with a couple of bands and it's very manageable we pay about 65 each between 4 bands for this plus electricity. Have a wander around the older industrial complexes around your area and speak to other tennents and see what's available an what the landlord is like? Try and avoid estate agents or property managers as they cost more than dealing with the landlord.
I love your use of fabrics ... had you considered chintz?
There is some fabric left over and I was thinking of making the band matching waistcoats for that classy stage appearance

The latest shuffle around of gear and acoustic treatment of some more walls. We now have the 2 offices to the side and all the stored gear and settees and fridge etc are now out the rehearsal space. How much would I need to pay to get a working acoustic 270? Cheers Dave
