NBD - Fender American Original 60s Jazz - Sonic Blue
ossyrocks replied to MungoBass's topic in Bass Guitars
Lovely. Keep the tort. -
On reflection, I’d buy it and play it if the price reflected the butchery. It looks like the mods have been reversed bar the routing with a blunt spoon, and it’s all covered up by the guard. I doubt the tone is affected at all. Any repair attempt would make things worse, as it would need a refinish afterwards, and it would be pointless to rout the channels clean and refill with suitable wood without a refin. What’s the asking price, just out of interest? edit: Is that the original guard? The routs underneath suggest a switch was added. Rob

That little caption bottom right. “Need help?” I do now!

As some know, I’m relatively new to playing bass, however I do know how to set up my own guitars, having played electric for many years. This thread has had me rushing off to measure mine too! At the 12th fret, my 1973 Precision is currently 1.5mm under the E string and 2mm under the G. I’d like it lower on the G, but I’d need a fret dress first as it would choke notes from about fret 15 upwards if it was lower. (Frets are original and don’t look to have ever been dressed) I’ve visited the setup on this bass about three or four times. It’s all a balance of truss rod and saddles, and nut too if that’s an issue. I have the very tiniest relief in the neck, barely there, but it is. When I changed to Thomastik flats from Picato had had to start again! Way less tension in the Thomastiks and I had to back off the truss rod a quarter turn before I could make any refinements. Rob

When they do, be prepared to be overjoyed, or deflated. It'll be one or the other. Fortunately, Promenade Music stock a lot of their stuff and it's 15 minutes walk from me, so I'll be there as soon as they have them in regardless.

They're saying that they will hit the dealers worldwide in September. I'm going to wait, but I won't be holding my breath in the meantime.

I must check these out, I’m about 15 minutes walk from Promenade Music. BTW, they must have sent this one back from the future through some sort of portal, the back panel has a date of 03-2023 !

Fender Road Worn Jazz Bass - Fiesta Red - *SOLD*

With the (now) older cabs like mine, the corners allow stacking in any orientation. Looking at the new 102 Energy cab (the one I'm interested in), it looks like it will only stack horizontally, so the option of creating a 4x10 column has vanished. Ho hum. Rob
-
The MB58R 102 ENERGY 2x10 cab weighs 9.8kg! I'm having one of these, or maybe two.
-
It's a matter of opinion. I like the look of Mark Bass cabs. But I do understand the appeal of the more conservative look of cabs from Barefaced.
-
There must be a lot of people interested in their new cabs. The website has crashed! Being someone who has to look after their back, I'm definitely interested, but I can't see them yet because of the website issues. Rob Edit: finally in but it's REALLY slow. Looks like a brand new website too. 20 new cabinets ! That's a LOT

Their social media is full of announcements. Their website is running a countdown timer, ticking down until tomorrow. What can we expect? It’s all very hush hush at the moment. Rob
-
Ah yes, cheers. Bass Monkey has just put an exceptionally clean ‘72 Precision up on Facebook today too, but I can’t link it here. It’s not on their website yet. That’s someone of this parish is it not?
-
I’m watching it, but can’t justify a refinished bass at that price. Does that C on the neck stamp indicate a Jazz width nut? If so, there’s still a lot to like about it.
-
Accepting offers too. A realistically priced bass on eBay for once.
-
I have no affiliation to this seller on eBay, I just thought I would share this. ’73 Precision, looks original, and it’s the same price I paid for my ‘73 earlier this year from ATB Guitars, except this one on eBay has the original case and mine doesn’t. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325234663345?hash=item4bb97f1fb1%3Ag%3AzlUAAOSwr3VinQj1&LH_ItemCondition=4 Rob

Need a fill in cab.... lightweight, pub giggable 2x10 or 1x12

I almost messaged that eBay seller to tell him I could buy a new one delivered for £24 more than he was asking, but then thought why bother!? I have a traveller 151P going spare which I would let go for £220, but I’m a looooong way away from you. -
I quite like that 70’s sunburst, but then I’m a bit biased as I have a sunburst ‘73 precision which I really like and it’s not dissimilar. The Jazz is 9lbs 4oz, which is heavier than I would like, but about my limit. Sub 9lb 70’s Fenders seem hard to find.
-
Cheers. I need to move some other gear first really, but the temptation to spend first and recoup later is strong. I’m on holiday in Scotland at the moment, so I can’t really do much until I get back. Bass Bros prices seem very reasonable if you compare them to what others seem to be asking for 70’s Fenders, which is why I posted it up here. If there’s wriggle room for cash too, then that’s even better.

Ah ha. Found it thanks. Looks like they are good to deal with. Now, what about that ^ ‘75 Jazz ………. Hmm
