1.
Thank's for the GAS, it's a tidy tool and soon to become a classic i think......
    Are those pant's clean?
I'm not sure, i've picked them up since then :)

  2.
Well with bedroom recordings i can understand, but surely on any real recording setup youd just turn up the input gain?
Well yeah but we're not that pro yet :) only reason i can see for low output being bad (if you have the cash for a preamp and whatever) though active basses can be tonally different and more punchy.

  3. I got the camera out on the tripod without the flash when we had a brief sunny spell the other day and i have to say i like the results! what say you? It's only my sub bass but damn i think it really looks nice, especially with the black guard, the metal one looked so gimmicky!
I plan to do the same with my tobias next time i have a chance (may not be too soon, it is england after all!)

  4. I was actually going to recommend one of those before i read your post ^^^ they seem really solid, fold up small and i really love hercules stuff, i have two hercules wall hangers and they're really good. I actually need to buy one of those for upcoming band practices and gigs etc

  5. passive basses can be irritating sometimes because of the low output when my band has bedroom recording sessions, they found themselves having to boost the bass levels on the PC because it just didn't cut through. Luckily they have a bassist with two active basses now and the higher output means they can actually hear their bassist
Ofcourse the correct metal reply is:
"But my amp goes up to 11"
Haha why was i thinking that too? lmao

  6. I've never seen anywhere selling them as they're pretty rare but try http://www.simscustom.com/, they'll cut you a custom one for about £20-£30 i think, or go to sound control and ask if they have any, i got my musicman pickguard there for £13 i think it was. Even came with a years guarantee ^_^

  7. Yeah same as the above post. Dunlops all the way, i've never used schallers but i had a look at my mate's once and they didn't look that safe to me.

Try http://www.axesrus.com/, that's where i got mine from, not much more than a tenner if at all, they're £8.90 on there with free shipping. When i bought mine the day i got them one broke so i complained and they said don't even bother sending the broken unit in and sent me out a replacement right away. Great service. Other than that though they're pretty solid.

  8.
Feeding the GAS merely suppresses it for a few weeks until you a) see something ELSE you like or b) what you bought doesn't live up to expectations.
This is true, once you acquire the gear you tend to move onto something else... i know i do :)

  9.
Unfortunately at this time, there is no know cure
You're wrong, there is a cure, and a fantastic one at that (though you may lose some loved ones) which is to buy the item you have GAS for....

I've got some pretty bad GAS now actually :)
    In more ways than one...

  10. I'd say try out a tobias toby pro 6. Yeah they're not the best, but i have one (5 string) and it sounds pretty nice, you could swap the pickups out and it would sound great. Also it has the nicest neck I've ever played. It's just so fast and every note just feels so natural and easy. Not the best finish (hand rubbed oil, so not too bad) but it has the oval shape you're looking for and it's asymmetrical so it fits your hand perfectly, seriously give one a try! There's a couple on ebay now at the £300 mark.

EDIT: seems i'm not the only one that has said that, i'd say go for dood's toby, VERY nice basses and that seems well worth the money if it's got EMGs.

  11. They do look very nice and if you like the way it looks, sounds and plays then i see no reason why you shouldn't get it!
I've also heard that the higher end ESP/LTDs are very good in the way of sound and construction. I have a friend that loves them, he's had a few ESPs, a couple of LTDs and is currently playing an edwards (ESP's japanese counterpart). I've not heard a lot wrong with them to be honest.

  12. I used to own a behringer ultrabass BX1200 combo, not the best sounding amp in the world, but as most of you have said, good value for money and actually more reliable than the chinese built ampeg i just bought.

  13. Thanks guys! i'm pretty sure they don't have a replacement in there unless they got one in the last couple of days and i won't be able to get it down there until next weekend (i wish i could drive :) ) but i'll have to see what they can do, because not having an amp isn't really an option.

Also thanks andy, that's made me a bit more hopeful!
