Just water and a cloth. Maple necks have finishes on them which rosewood and ebony etc etc don't because they need constant oiling. Just use water as it won't damage the finish in any way. That should get rid of any of the dirt on the fretboard, and if it doesn't you're a scruffy bastard! (if you have a nice thick buildup use a credit card or something to scrape it off first)

still, i wouldn't mind one of the lower end MTDs, i've not heard anything bad about them.

I'd love to try one of the new bongo 6's too! (thankyou john myung!)

Some people get them mixed round sometimes.... usually people that aren't too good on the tech, if he means just the metal knobs to replace the plastic ones then yeah. If he means the actual pots no.

I use vaseline, thought it doesn't last long.

With the QC things, yeah you are right there, there's a couple of blobs where the finish hasn't been applied properly, there's glue on the fretboard and the wings dont match (check the photos, it's very apparent). But apart from that i do think it's a nice bass for £200.

@ above post i actually like the asymmetrical neck, it feels really slick to me and for a fiver it's really thin too, which i like, lets me play with a lot more fluidity.

Also MTD basses aren't that expensive, you could pick up one of the cheaper ones for about £600 ish? There's a couple on ebay at the moment actually.

I actually saw that the other day looking for jazzes on the bay and thought it looked pretty damn nice, sadly i didn't have the cash. If i had £400 for a jazz though that would have been the one.

damn! that's stupidly cheap! i would have been very tempted to buy that and sell it on for a profit..

My god, the paint job on that is awful! look at the photo of the headstock, that one really shows how bad it is... i can't believe he's got that much for it!

No the musicman pots wont fit because they are wired to a circuit board and the jazz control plate is the wrong shape.
However years and years ago (1980's, maybe before that, i'm not sure when) they used to wire them just as loose pots like in your jazz but they would be fairly expensive, hard to find, and even harder to find given the fact that since your control plate has 3 holes not four, you would need to find the 2 band EQ (volume, bass, treble) which you rarely ever can as most people buy the 3 band (volume, bass, mid, treble). If you can find it and afford it congrats but personally i doubt you will and if you can you won't be able to afford it.

EDIT: oh and all musicman circuits are active (except the passive sub but that's wired to a circuit board so again that wont fit) so if you did buy one you'd need to find somewhere to fit the battery and i'd be willing to bet you wont fit it under that control plate so you'd have to route a cavity in the back for it and drill a hole through. I'm thinking that's a lot of work for a squier and ultimately won't be worth the time and money if you can do it. So that's a no really...

Do you know how long it's taken for me to hear that? The music shop i bought mine from (it's the bubinga toby pro) knew nothing about it, i emailed gibson, they told me it was a toby pro 5 and sent me a copy of the original ad which mentioned nothing about bubinga.... i emailed them again twice more and they just danced around the question like i hadn't asked it. I have to say, gibson customer service is appalling in my experience.

So mine is the toby pro5B custom? (also i don't think it's as bad a bass as matty589 is making it out to be)

Yeah, musicmans are still fairly expensive to me, but for something of that quality it is fairly reasonable, a match for a lot of custom shops. Plus i really respect sterling for actually talking to his customers at any given opportunity on the forums, makes the whole thing a lot more personal. The company is actually a lot smaller than you might think!

I know this is BASSchat but i don't want some poor sod to lose out. Can a few people report this just to make sure it comes off please? i don't want someone to bid on a gibson and recieve an epiphone.

If anybody is unsure it's clearly an epi gothic because of the ebony board and inlay.
Now look at the inlay, only the epi has the XII 12th inlay as in the listing and [url="http://cachepe.samedaymusic.com/media/quality,85/brand,sameday/p17356h-55b168bf6928eed61fe3afcfdadf4d64.jpg"]here[/url]. The [url="http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2379/geghj6.jpg"]gibby gothic[/url] has a half-moon with a star inside it. and again [url="http://www.gibson.com/products/gibson/Limited/img/GothicExplorer.jpg"]here [/url]

The guitar in the listing is also clearly much lighter than mahogany as the epi gothic explorers have spruce tops, the gibbys are solid mahogany.

So be nice and report it? please haha i feel a bit sorry for the bidders
