Having bought one (black Friday price plus online discount code -> £21 all in), it is Sommer Spirit cable. Arrived next day as well. Useful when changing between bass and EUB which I seem to have to do in both bands.

To be honest, I do not think that price will be around for long. It costs about that price to buy the parts. For example the RA Silent plug is at least £12 everywhere, If the soldering is done properly, That will be a great buy

The cheap version is called "unplug the lead at the amp end", the deluxe version is something like this https://www.studiospares.com/studiospares-pro-neutrik-silent-guitar-lead-angled-jack-5m-593140.htm  I find mine very useful and it works really well.

That would be a good cable except the picture show the cable a SC-Club. That is a microphone cable. The text says Sommer Spirit. If they are using Sommer Spirit with those connectors that is a good price. However the P&P will be about £6.

There is a 15” one for sale as spares or repairs on eBay, which powers up, but has another intermittent fault. Wondering if it’s the same PSU?

Almost certainly, although they claim 1400 watts for the 15 as opposed to 1200 for the 12. Probably just marketing BS anyway.

Had a good look, even got my magnifying glass out, but can’t see anything. 🙄 Looks like it’s going to end up a passive speaker? 🤷‍♂️

Sorry for the delay, I don't recognise that PSU. I am happy to have a look at it if you want to send it. Although the PSUs seem to be more reliable than the power amps.

  5. I had the BLX130, Same amp but an extra set of MOSFES in the output stage. Sill prbably the one amp I regret selling but the weight....

The model number came from the idea that these were the Dog's BLX.

It's one of those TP-Link AC750s that I was using that started losing connection. You also have to be sure to use a good USB lead to power it.

Yes, they take a lot of juice, I think close to 2 amps. If you find that the travel router is not good enough, you may need to get a router like the one mentioned above or one of the more expensive Mesh/IPv6 routers. Are you using 5GHz?

The reason there are no truly digital amps where our needs are concerned is a speaker can't make use of a digital signal. Many amps have some type of A/D conversion of the input signal, which is amplified by pulse wave modulation that requires low pass filtering before the speaker can make use of it. That makes them quasi-digital. AFAIK PWM amps were called Class D because when invented in the 1950s it was the next available letter in the alphabet.

IMHO, it is better to consider Class D amps as modulator/demodulators  (modems) or radio transmitter/receivers, where both actions happen within a single unit. PWM is a form of modulation like AM or FM. At no point does the signal in a class D amp need to be converted to 1s or 0s. In some cases, manufacturers may use digital circuits to control aspects of the amplifier, but it is not a prerequisite.

They are a pain to set up, Dave, unless of course you work in IT (I used to, but my knowledge is now mostly obsolete!). Apart from that, we've had no problems, but TP-Link isn't the only option obviously. I would describe £70-100 for a router as mid-range rather than high end. 👍

I agree, the advent of IPv^6 plus Mash technology has pushed up top end prices, so £70-£100 is now mid-range. With my Soundcraft UI16, I use a TP LInk Travel Router. Ite has never let me down and when I needed another Ethernet (wired) port, I bought one of these Soho Switch.

Here is the Ethernet adaptor I use on the iPad..

Another Opal user here. Never once let me down and very convenient for being powered from many sources. I’ve even run it off a USB power bank as an experiment. Worked for the full 4 hour rehearsal we did, although I’d not want to do that at a gig unless i had to.

Im surprised at the other suggestions here being called high end or expensive. Sub £100 doesn’t seem to command those statements IME.
Not that my opinion counts, but I’ve never had much luck with TP-link routers. I have 3 faulty ones in a box from the past 6 years. I’d trust them if i had to, but wouldn’t buy another.

I have had quite a few for different projects, and never had a problem, except when trying to use them underwater.

You'd rather by a fake than something like this Sterling that blows a mere copy out of the water?

I'm guessing OLP doesn't cut it, either.

  11. Hi Ralf,

Those 4700uF capacitors are fairly standard, they are on a number of the Trace power supplies. Use a reputable brand, 105 degree temperature rating and the lowest ESR you can get. Going to a higher voltage will increase the cost, but there will be benefits as it will last longer and probably give a better ESR than a 63V capacitor in the same range.

Contact @Ashdown Engineering. They are repairing TE gear now I believe. Makes sense considering the Trace/Ashdown history.

I think they have stopped that since Guy Morel retired.

The WiFi has been faultless and was worth the cost of entry alone. I really don't miss having to use a router in addition to the mixer.

Mixing Station does not look as user-friendly, or as "aesthetic," as the native CQ app, and, aside from some missing features, and the disconnecting when idle, the CQ app is the best tablet mixing experience I've ever had.

    Thanks.

I’ve got it back now, still unrepaired, so I’ll take pictures this weekend. Apparently the power module has failed and Behringer won’t supply one to anyone, but told me to contact an authorised repairer.

Bought a new one a couple of weeks ago, went to use it last night for the first time and the handle snapped off. 🙄

Not the best advert for Behringer, either the PSU failure or the broken handle. I am still interested in looking at the insides, though.

I've been lamenting the loss of my mute/sub groups less than I thought I would, but I imagine if I were micing a full drum kit, I'd miss that feature more

I am coming to the same conclusion, although I have not yet bought the CQ20T. In reality, I probably use the group feature once or twice a year, so it's not the big deal I originally told myself it was. Apparently you can use DCAs (Digitally Controlled Amplifiers) on the Mixing Station, but I barely know the software and have not found it yet. It may be my bias against learning new software, but I do not really like the look of Mixing Station.

The consensus does seem to be that the CQ is a step-up in sound quality from both the Behringer/Midas offerings and the Soundcraft UI series, although the Midas and Soundcraft UI24r are supposed to have better mic preamps than the Behringers or the UI12/16s. It has some nice features that the others do not, but there are functional improvements that A&H can make that in future. The original Soundcraft UI firmware did not include many features that we now enjoy, and the current firmware was 3 years after launch.

One final thing, how usable is the WiFi?

I've yet to persuade singers and guitarists to claim their own monitor mixes with the CQ4YOU app yet; which is disappointing. Not a failing of the mixer or the app, just Luddites shirking the job; they'll get there.

Snap, none of mine are interested in Soundcraft's MoreMe app for personal monitoring.

Thanks for taking the time to explain and good luck with the rollout.

They exist in the monitoring app, so the functionality is already there. It's such a daft response too, even if it were true; "we didn't include this useful feature that could be easily achieved on the existing hardware with minor software changes and that has no down sides by design"???

I'm used to not having the mute groups now as I have the soft keys setup for what I used most frequently on my MR18. It's still a great mixer, but these feel like  missteps from A&H.

How are you finding the CQ20 after a few months?
