1. We generally try to keep the music going - less chance of people going back to their seats! There are a couple of places where our guitarist changes guitars - so we have a little bit of chat to fill these gaps. A little audience interaction is good, but got to keep the balance right. Really need to keep the content appropriate too.

A couple of years ago, I was checking out a potential band to play at my wedding (in a pub), the level of chat from their front man was enough for me not to book them. Trying to be funny, but a bit bad taste (e.g - "I'd normally be having a w*** 'n' a Pot Noodle on a Thursday night. No - not IN a Pot Noodle. AND a Pot Noodle"). They did know we were there too - he made a crack about his agent telling him to be on their best behavior.

We left early and booked someone else.

2. Had a similar experience. The bloke in the shop checked his online catalogue and wasn't able to find much. Fender, Squire and Vintage Jazz basses. Mostly 'Jaco' style too. Reckon a wee shake up is needed - love Jaco's stuff, but have no desire to play a tatty looking bass with a missing scratchplate!

3. You could add a pre-amp to your P. Something like an East P-retro for example.
Another option would be to use an EQ pedal to achieve your reggae tone - which would allow you to keep a balanced volume.

A compressor would be more useful for smoothing out volume inconsistencies occuring due to your playing style etc.

90 days is ridiculous , how many b2b contracts are there working on 90 day terms? 14/28 is more the norm and anything over one month usually by agreement
I work in B2B accounts, there are many 90 days contracts, and in some customers in Italy have 120 day terms! Apparently standard business practice... Don't get me wrong, this is a very large company doing business with other large companies. - certainly no way to treat a small business like a band.

5. Hi All,

Wonder if any of you have managed to create something on the Zoom B3 that would work with Muse's Plug in Baby? Recently been added to the band's set and want get reasonably close to the right sound. Have another 50 songs in the list and can't justify buying anything else for one track - so please don't suggest purchasing a Deep Impact!

I originally tuned down to dropped D and just used Big Muff + Flanger to give a kind of sweeping effect - but it's not quite right. I watched him play, and I'd guess he's playing an octave higher with a octave pedal to bring it back down. Sounds like a fuzz & synth would get me close, but I've not been happy with anything I've created.

So - anyone else play this song?

Thanks!

6. I put an ad on last week looking for a keyboard player. 7 responses within 12 hours (and none since), 5 seem decent, 2 maniacs. Three didn't get back to me after sharing our demo, two did. Auditions arranged for both, one pulled out. Auditioned the other last night and probably going to offer him the job.

To summarise - Gumtree worked out okay for us.

The five year liability is more to do with safety, you cannot expect things to last forever
The five (or six) year liability relates to contract law - specifically the statute of limitations. Goods should last a reasonable time taking in to account the cost and intended use. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect a loaf of bread to last more than a few days, but it's entirely reasonable to expect a £1000 amp to last for several years.

Within the first six months, the burden of proof is on the retailer, who must prove the fault (or underlying cause) was not present at the time of supply. After six months, the burden of proof is on the purchaser.

In most cases, the threat of legal action will be enough to motivate the retailer. Make sure you read up and know your legal rights and all the facts beforehand - and be prepared to see it through.

8. Some additional info based on some questions I've had.

£5 would cover the postage on this.
Prefer bank transfer for payment, but would accept PayPal if the buyer covers the fees
For swaps, I'd really only be interested in something to record band rehearsals with - like one of the Zoom handheld recorders.

Thanks.

9. Boss OC-3 Super Octave. Very good condition (minor signs of use only, from a pet & smoke free house), boxed with manual.

We all know what this does, so I won't waffle on about it - though happy to answer any questions you may have.

Has served me well, but Santa Claus has delivered a Zoom B3, so trimming back the lesser used items on the pedal board.

Based in Airdrie (close to Glasgow). Happy to post at buyer's expense, deliver locally or can be picked up from mine - whatever suits really!

Cheapest retail on these pedals is £99.99, so offering here at half price.

Sadly, I find Rog's solo material very hard work too. Floyd, to me, are a classic example of the whole being more than the sum of the parts.

Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking and Radio Chaos aren't his best works, but genuinely, Amused to Death is fantastic. Up there with his best Floyd work. New album in the pipeline.... 20 years in the making...hope it's worth the wait!
Strings: Ernie Ball - and that's it!! great if you like them..

When I visited Wunjo a couple of weeks ago, they had every brand of string I'd ever heard of in stock - I can remember seeing Ernie Ball, Rotosound, DR, La Bella & D'Addario. Had rounds and flats for all brands too.

12. Definitely the ATK! Great 3 band eq on it, good pickup in right position and solidly built.
Have one that is reluctantly being evicted by my wife since my latest purchase is apparently one too many.
Going on the market place here if I can't shift it locally.

13. I was in London at the weekend for the Roger Waters gig with my guitar playing mate, and visited Denmark Street. I purchased my first P bass! Was 'show stock', and the price reduced to £365 with good quality Fender gig bag included. Couple of minor cosmetic issues that were pointed out to me, but otherwise a great bass.
Service was perfect - very friendly, more than happy to let me try out as many basses as I wanted. Had good chat with them too, genuinely nice folk.
Before buying, we browsed the rest of the street (which was pretty poor for bassists) - be lucky if one other shop assistant spoke to us.
My mate had a similar experience with guitars, and ended up dropping £800 on a slim-line Telecaster.

14. I bought a blue acrylic bodied 5 string from ebay about six years ago (ish!). Was my first and only five string. Cost me £45 iin an auction (rrp was about £140). Really didn't like anything about it how it felt or sounded, though it did look good in a 'unique' sort of way.
Had it six months, then sold it for exactly what I paid for it.

15. Thanks for the advice on the nut guys, one less thing to worry about! Reckon the twisted neck was probably caused by the same abuse that damaged paintwork. The guy I bought it from said he used this at pub gigs when he didn't want to risk using his Musicman, and just chucked it in the back of a van without a case.

Anyway, including cheap ebay parts I've spent about £60 on this - can't really complain! It's definitely good enough to introduce me to the fretless world. Hopefully the postman will bring my pickup today and I'll be ready to go.

Thanks again

16. I've just bought my first fretless - second hand locally. I thought I'd tell you about it on here - and hopefully someone can give me some advice.

It's a 20 year old Jim Deacon, with PJ pickups. It was defretted by Glasgow luthier Jimmy Moon around 10 years ago - very good job.

I only paid £45 for it,. It's in pretty poor condition, so I'm giving it a minor refurb (spending as little as possible!). I don't mind how it looks, as long as it's at least playable. I had planned on buying the Vintage 'Jaco' model that a few of you on here have praised, but my wedding has put the brakes on that.
The plan now is to see how much use this one gets (and how in tune I sound!) then purchase something a bit more decent....

So far I've dismantled it and removed a lot of dirt (dog hair down side of pickups etc...very nice), cleaned the beat up body with Flash (I know!) - was the only thing that would remove the cigarette smoke smell from it. Finish is in very poor condition anyway.

I've shimmed the neck, replaced the knobs (which were mismatched). I'm also replacing the P pickup with an eBay cheapy, since the top coil wasn't really working at all - I reckon it had become demagnetised.

There is one area I need some help with - the nut. It's very deep cut, barely raising the strings from the body at all. Is normal for a fretless? I'm thinking about removing it and putting a shim under it - but not sure how to get it out cleanly. Photo below.
