I would second the TC Electronic BG250 208 - I've got one in my practice room and it is great at quiet volumes and goes quite loud when you want it to. I've had a Fender Rumble 15 in the past, and it was worth every penny of the £25 I sold it for - but not much more.

Silly question - but how much does this beast weigh?

For collection only, and free of charge to one lucky winner is a Behringer SL2442FX PRO mixer. 24 channels with 16 Pre-amps.

I used to use this a keyboard sub-mixer in my now long gone hardware setup. Now all digital I have no need or space for this.

Was working with a little bit of crackle when the on-board FX were patched in, otherwise perfectly fine from memory.

As a seller I love Ebay. I always get more £ than I expect, hassle free (providing you follow the rules). Things sell quickly, and you don't get the tire kickers and timewasters like you do on Gumtree. Happy to pay 10% for that.

My strategy is to always buy low and sell at a reasonable (not high) cost. Can't go wrong.

I bought this pre-amp about a year ago, serviced it & fixed an intermittent fault with the foot-switch socket and it has sat mostly unused in the rack since then.

Paul Creedy (based in Duston) does all mine. He's done some cracking work for me over the years - and everyone I've recommended him to has been pleased with his work (guitars and bass).

I pay £22.50 for full set up. Based in Northampton.

Would this fit in a fender Jazz with no additional routing?

The bass is boost only, with an indent midway - I think I might have had the bass boosted whoops.

Oh I dont have everything cranked up - like you it's close to flat, with just a tiny touch of bass and treble boost. It still sounds like it will blow the doors off.
I'll take a look at the trim settings on the preamp.

I really want to like it, but initial impressions aren't great. Whereas my stingray seems to flatter my poor playing - and make it sound good, the J-Retro seems to magnify all the bits I dont like!

If you are new to the bass, take someone who isn't with you. Otherwise buying privately will be a real gamble.

Squier make a pink 3/4 fender suitable for a 7 yo (I have one for my daughter) and its great. It only cost £90 new from Gear4Music. I wouldnt mess around with a chinese seller for the sake of saving £5

I recently added/upgraded my 75 RI Jazz to sport a J-Retro, wanting to add a MM type sound to my arsenal.

Boy was I disappointed. It just seems too much, like adding nitrous oxide to a moped.

It's not my only active bass, I have a stingray and used to own a MM Jazz. Love the stingray sound (wasnt so keen on the Jap MM).

Am I the only one who thinks the J-Retro sound is just too OTT? Should I persevere with it? At least it's an easily reversible upgrade.
