1.
Good decision. But................thumbrest:rolleyes:
Yes, yes, I know - I'm not fond of them myself! But, when it makes the difference between being able to play a bass, and not - it's time to just get on with it. I wish I could master the floating thumb technique but, try as I might, I can't.
2. Martin, Thank you for all your efforts to help me move the bass on. My invitation to you to come round at any time to try it out still holds. I could always take the thumbrest off for half an hour... Steve
3.
MB1. ....A Thumbrest?....
Yeah - shameful, eh? Don't tell anybody, please. I was struggling with resting my thumb on the pup - it was too far back for me. Try as I might, I couldn't play with a "floating thumb" either - I need to anchor somewhere. So, somewhat reluctantly, I put the thumbrest on today, and it really has made the difference between being able to play the bass, and not. If it makes it a little more palatable, I've tried to hide the thumbrest by putting a white one onto a white pickguard. Is that OK??
4. I've tried some halfwounds on the 'Ray, and I've put on a thumbrest to move my hand away from the bridge. Result = a much warmer, deeper tone that I'm growing rather fond of. So, I'm keeping it for the time being.
5. Vintage V4 now sold and off on holiday to sunny Devon. Beaut. fretless Stingray still under my spare bed...
6. G&L Tribute L-2000? Big, wide neck with 2 selectable pups so you can choose P-tone or J-tone.
7. Superb, unique, pristine fretless Stingray here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55141 You're very welcome to try it out anytime. Steve
8.
It nearly went to Europe, but it's still here. I'm open to offers around £900 or thereabouts. Steve
When I say "it", I'm referring to the Stingray.
9. It nearly went to Europe, but it's still here. I'm open to offers around £900 or thereabouts. Steve
10. Thanks MB1! Bumpy round Manchester,eh?
11. I've now replied to all the PM's I've had. Open to offers around £900. Try me! Steve
12. Thanks Andy, It's definitely a handsome bass. The dark fingerboard goes well with the body colour, I reckon. What a shame I'm not getting on with the classic Stingray sound... Steve
13. Thanks to MB1 and mrcrow for bumping my ad! The fretless 'Ray is now definitely for sale: Here are the pictures: Serial No: E12423. I've checked this with EBMM and the date of manufacture is 23rd February 2000. They also confirm the body colour as Pearl Lavender (discontinued in 2002, I'm told) and the fingerboard as Pau Ferro. To quote EBMM: "...most likley the only one we ever made exactly like this". It went straight to Bass World in Kent where it remained on display until I bought it in June this year. It is extremely rare to the point of being possibly unique! 4-string 3 EQ model Fretless board Maple neck Complete with original MM hrdshell case Fully checked and set up by instrument tech. Still under shop's warranty which is transferable to new owner I've played it no more than 10 times, and only in the bedroom. It's never been played live, gigged or even used for rehearsals. Consequently, it's in MINT condition. Technically "used", but effectively it's "as new". It still has the protective film on the pickguard! I keep getting it out and gazing at it wistfully since it is a thing of rarity and beauty. But, I'm not getting on with the Stingray tone. I realise I prefer a P-tone. Bit of a shame, really. Putting a price on it has been difficult becuase of its mint condition and rarity. I've searched ther web for new fretless 'Rays - they're about £1300 - but they're not really directly comparable to this one. I've taken it into 2 music shops and asked for a valuation too. The result is I'm putting it up for sale at £900, which I think is realistic. I'm in Stockport. Anybody who wants to pop round for a cuppa, a chat and noodle on the 'Ray is more than welcome. My email: [email protected] Steve

17.
By way of a bump! Not a problem, I kinda half guessed it was the other Green Do you sail Solo's too? Peter - ex Enterprise racer
Yes - I sail Solo's, and Corby 25's and Squibs, and Fireballs, and J-80's. PM sent.
18. South east of Stockport bump. Stingray is going on to Preloved and Gumtree tomorrow. BC'ers have first refusal. Steve
19.
MB1. ....What Price is Pearl Lavender?
PM'd
20. My Vintage V4 is a storming P-bass clone - great as a backup or beater bass. Yours for £85. See: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55141 Steve
21. Vintage V4 still for sale. Fretless Stingray now officially for sale.
22.
Uhmmmm. Is it a Stingray????
It most definitely is a bona fide, un-mucked-about-with Stingray! I checked the serial number with EBMM customer service who confirmed that it was made 23rd February 2000. Also confirmed was the original body colour of Pearl Lavender and fretless fingerboard made of Pau Ferro. So, it's not a refin. I believe this colour was discontinued in 2001 or 2002. Quote from EBMM: "...most probably the only bass like this we ever made"! Rare, or what?! I've had some PM interest about the bass and I'll respond to these first. If it's still unsold, I'll put it up as officially For Sale. Steve
23.
Agree they got a great write up when they were launched.
The Vintage Fender-a-like is still for sale. Cracking bass for this price. Any trial welcome. Steve
24.
Hi Peter, It could be Green Mann
Hi all, Just back from a wet and windy week-long sailing regatta, and feeling my age. BassBunny is absolutely right. It was Greene-Mann not Greenking who posted the "Beginners bass wanted" ad to which I responded a few weeks ago. My apologies to everybody for the unintended confusion. Doooh.
25. Thanks for the bump mrcrow. I'm sailing at Abersoch Dinghy Week until 1st August ("Absolutely Fabulous" in the Fireball fleet if anybody wants to come and say hello). So, I'll not be answering messages until then. So, the Vintage will need to go when I return because I've just bought another G&L Tribute. I'll probably put this up for sale too when I get back: Steve
