Had a listen to this - nice track. The bridge is just based on A/D/G/C x 2, but the bass starts the 2nd time on the third of the chord (c#). Here's a quick non-perfect take on youtube for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUHnPoopn0I
Thank you. My initial stab at the bridge was A/C/G but I knew that wasn't quite right. Thanks for your correction. The Youtube clip is also very helpful. I'd found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfe7WMkK9Hk but it's a little difficult to work out what's going on plus it's a 5-string bass and I play 4-string. I've asked Jake if he'd kindly send me his tab. Steve
No need for that mate. To the original poster, if you want it still, I'll have tab & notation done for you, just let me know. Jake
Thank you Jake - you're very kind. PM sent to you. Steve

Folks, I've posted this in the "Grooves" Forum, but it may be better placed in here. Mods, feel free to disagree. I'm trying to sort out the bass tab for Free Me by Joss Stone. I've found what purports to be the chords on the net, but I'm far from convinced they're correct. I think I've got the basic riff/Verse OK, but I'm struggling with the instrumental section that runs into "And we're singing in our own voice..." Can anybody help, please? Cheers, Steve

Guys, Looks like I'm now sorted with a new band. Whilst looking, I came across this on Partysounds. Sounds a bit different - might suit somebody on here. I switched from using a thumb rest to floating thumb, mainly to gain the string muting afforded by floating thumb. On balance, I personally prefer floating thumb because of the (relatively) unaltered hand shape you end up with when crossing strings. However, it has been suggested to me that my plucking has become softer having adopted floating thumb, and this in turn means I have to turn up gain and volume controls, and this in turn emphasises any bum notes I play. Anybody else experienced this with floating thumb? Steve

Hi all, I'm still looking for a soft rock/pop/soul covers band in the Manchester area. I'm not looking for world tours, signed bands or world domination, but a fairly decent good-time, crowd-pleasing pub/club band that aims to gig 2 or 3 times a month for fun and beer money. I have lots of recent gigging experience, good kit and loads of time for rehearsals and gigs. I'm dead keen, reliable, punctual and polite. Can't read music though. Of course, I'm regularly checking the usual websites such as Northwest bands, Partysounds and Join my band, but I thought I'd declare myself available here just in case somebody knows of an opportunity that might suit me. I thought I'd found something, but it's stalled and may/may not go ahead. So, I'm still looking. Probably best to PM me with replies to ensure I actually see them, since I don't check BC every day. Cheers guys, Steve

Actually, you can sell nothing. It's not cheap - in fact it costs £3-99. See: http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/nothing-no...Gift+of+Nothing Too much packaging, really. Folks, http://www.gumtree.com/london/82/66367482.html This is nothing to do with me. The original Gumtree ad has no photos, but the seller did send some to me when I asked for them. I've decided it's not for me, but I offered to post the ad. on here. Steve
If its a bolt on consider having the neck removed which will make it easier to pack, and considerably cheaper. Its a long time since Ive done it and I used to use USPS but there were starting to be restrictions on the overall size of the package. As always, you get what you pay for. Companies like fedex are quick but expensive, USPS which is then passed on to parcel force are cheaper and slower. Check your insurance and dont forget to factor in the duties about 22% including on the shipping cost
Thanks for the steer. From their website, cheapest USPS service (sized for neck-off packing) seems to be about $100 (£63) - cheaper than I'd thought.

Folks, Can anybody recommend a cheap and reliable courier to collect a bass from USA and deliver to me in the UK, please? I've ploughed through the "Courier" sticky but, to be honest, finding the information I want is a bit of a needle-in-haystack task. Steve
MB1. Emailed this guy weeks ago! hes never been back to me, so id say its gone! or the guy who left it has reappeared, and the seller has now been hospitalised!
Hi Martin. I didn't think you'd miss this one! Steve
Blimey!
Exactly. It surely can't be as it appears, can it? However, if it is and, if the seller gets back to me and, if it's still for sale, and if the seller can give me the Gibson serial number on the headstock, and if he can send me some photos of the rear of the headstock and, if I can convince myself it hasn't been nicked, I might go and see it. Not much chance of that then.

Spotted this on Manchester Gumtree. http://manchester.gumtree.com/manchester/41/64951241.html What does everybody think? So far, no reply to my emails from the seller. Steve

"Special hidden" amp modulator that you can only get by pressing 2 existing amp modulator buttons (Line 6 Studio 110). Why not just have an extra button?!

Folks, Here's the situation: I've been playing bass for 2.5 years from a complete standing start. I currently play in a semi-pro covers band in pubs, clubs and functions. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqRPuVdKQyE I hope I don't sound too self-congratulatory when I say that, considering I have very little natural musical talent and anything I achieve comes from hours of slogging bedroom practice, I think I'm doing reasonably well. I don't use effects of any kind. I simply plug my bass (G&L L2000 USA or L2000 Tribute or Fender USA P) straight into my combo (Roland DBass 115, sometimes with Dbass 115X ext. cab). It's even very rare for me to change amp settings during a gig - basically, I plug and play. KISS principle. I'm now being asked to consider adding some effects for songs like Foreigner's Don't stop believin', and to give more depth and variation between songs like Black Velvet and, say, Play that funky music. Part of me says that I should explore this whole area of effects, starting with simple Chorus, Flange and Reverb via foot switches. Nothing remotely complicated. I've been reading the "What multi-effect pedal" sticky to learn the basics. Mind boggling, for me. Another part of me says I may well be running before I can walk, and that I should concentrate on learning to play the bass properly and using the controls on my existing amp properly before confusing myself with a multi-effects pedal. I'm open to all advice folks, Thanks, Steve
Was that black one owned by a BC member? I seem to remember someone having something similar...
Yes, I bought it from a BC'er a couple of months ago. He told me what he knew about the bass' history.
good you found the G&L(s)you were after a wee while back
Yes - I now have the 2 G&L's and a Fender USA P. So, I'm sorted with my basses - for now. The only (non) problem is which bass to use for which songs. The ASAT/L2000 has the rich, deep tone that works well with slower bluesy numbers. The Tribute has an appreciably brighter, more "nasal" (?) tone and that seems to work well with the funkier numbers. The Precision works pretty well with just about anything - workhorse. I did have the ASAT/L2000 as No.1 bass with the Tribute as No.2. But the more I play the USA P, the more I appreciate it's user-friendliness compared to the ASAT/L2000. Basically, they're all very fine pieces of kit and I enjoy playing all of them. So, not really a "problem" choosing between them. Obviously, the original neck on the black L2000 has been replaced by the ASAT neck. I'm curious to try to pin down the age of the body, but there's no date in the neck pocket. I'm sure the neckplate (with the B000679) serial number isn't original, and the bridge has no serial number either. Any thoughts about how I might date the body, please? Steve
