Sorry if this has already been suggested, but I would love you to do the following: Get a selection of Jazz basses in for review - high and low end Fenders, along with both cheap and expensive copies, like Squiers, Faridas, Laklands and Sadowskys. Then let reviewers compare them blindfold........ and no cheating! Then you could do the same with Precisions
+1

The Ashdown is used for the upright, that's the constant over the years. As far as I remember, the others are effectively used as different rigs for different sounds. His pedal board/signal chain is very complex too. If you look at the one Marshall it has "2x10's" where the logo should be - anyone know how he runs his heads/cabs now? I've seen six shows on this Euro tour so far with two to go and I must say its the best Jeff's ever sounded. His sound is really nice and cuts through well whereas in the past it had a tendency to be slightly muddy. The Lull he uses on Rearviewmirror sounds epic during the reprise section. I love JA; one of all time favourites :-) Also, is that a Lull guitar that Mike is using on some songs? Has the same look as Jeff's basses.

Been there done it. Great bass. Issues? One only: epic b string from 35" scale however D and G strings too taught with that scale. YMMV.

I've played a Riverside. It was one of the most gawdawful shocking things I've ever touched. Nasty. Get yourself a Hohner.
I'm also planning on adding more/better string retainers on the headstock, those would have to be Hipshot I guess, as here I also expect easy string-changeability There's almost no angle to the E string on the nut, and very little on A and B, I hope the retainer would add a little bit of angle (and tension) here. This and the bridge combined will hopefully make the B string a bit better. If I remember correctly, Sean, you mentioned in your review that the bridge swap actually has helped. Not that it's bad as it is, I'm only slightly dissatisfied while practicing with headphones, it's much better through the amp, but every little helps, right?
I have Hipshot string retainers on mine, a two and a three string one and they help loads; it's improved the B string a fraction more again - I got the idea from Hugh MacDonald's Sadowsky basses; tried it and it worked a treat. The bridge change helps if the new bridge moves the anchor point of the string back toward the edge of the bass.
Here is another tempting budget option
I like the look of that. Certainly makes changing strings easy and if like me you take flats on and off different basses a lot then that one won't shred the wraps

After having serious cravings for a nice piece of graphite, I recently bought a Status Streamline from Hans, who didn't have any BC history but it was easy to establish that guy was totally straight up and exactly the sort of Basschatter anyone wants to deal with. I've had some easy and slick transactions but this one was amazing considering the international bank transfer, international shipping etc. Hans packed the bass like I've not seen before; it was like it was ready for nuclear war! It took me a while to unwrap . The parcel delivery was super-fast, he posted it on a Monday from the Netherlands and it arrived with me on the Wednesday - 48 hours door to door can't be bad. Seriously good levels of communication; daily email contact to update me on every step of the process including a nice graphic showing how the bass would be packed. The instrument itself? Well, that's immaculate and came with a boat load of strings and a pristine Ritter gig bag. Top bloke, top basschatter! I know we don't score but this was a 10/10.

I'd agree with the comments about arrangements. I play in three piece and love it, when choosing songs that have keys parts or second guitar parts I look to YouTube for solo acoustic Guitar performances for inspiration for arrangements. We did Drops of Jupiter by Train so to start I found an acoustic guitar arrangement and composed a bass line of my own for it, the guitarist adapted the acoustic guitar part for electric and it sounded great. Our next challenge is to do ELO's Mr Blue Sky.
Plus I find this particular J pickup almost useless, as I usually only use either pickup soloed on my basses, don't find myself blending them too often. I do miss having a nice sounding, silent (hum-wise) bridge pickup though.
Sounds to me like there's an issue with that J pickup, they should be really stonking, mine is. If you look under the review section of this forum, you'll see the replacement bridge I put on mine - click the link in my sig.

Are they "Special" in the politically correct sense of the word? It looks like they are to me.
Why is it under the heading 'Enterprise routers' instead of Bassguitars? As is his other Stingray. Very curious?
Roundwound strings are the most commonly used strings for bass, and 45-105 (or thereabouts) is a good starting point. If budget is an issue the Legacy strings are supposed to be decent - http://www.stringsdi...s_guitar/legacy
Legacy are Rotosound Rotobass repackaged. Very good value for money at £7.95 a set.
