  1. Well lve just completed 30 gigs/rehearsals with the HD R400 l bought off here a few months ago and l have to admit it is the best amp l have ever played through and lve played through most over the years including Ampeg/Orange/Trace. The tone and harmonic sounds are something to behold and the slight break up of the preamp valves is just perfect. Everywhere l have used it l get compliments of how it sits in the mix. Honestly this amp is simply awesome.  I use a 4 string musicman through a couple of Super compacts and we play predominately Soul/Norther Soul/Funk and Disco music. This amp perfect for all of this....l simply love it. What does everyone else think?

Well, it wouldn't be a Fender, and it would have five strings, and it would be natural, or maybe one of @skelf's acrylic impregnated tops, preferably with a nice bit of figuring. I have a lovely Antoniotsai with (IIRC) sycamore facing.Antoniotsai5cut.jpg.ac91efbb325ca71928c563bbd84eb6e4.jpg

    The dragon is a bonus.

Try playing 'achie breakie heart' on that..

Cheapo matting in operation. It's really grippy! It works and is cheap, why spend more for more obtrusive solutions? This wasn't the maximum tilt angle but I bottled it!

Wow...nearly fell off my chair looking at that!

The cheapo anti-slip matting is perfect. It rolls/folds up to be stored easily too.

I understand the bracing comment but I've played on raked theatre stages where my whole rig would move forward if I didn't put carpet beneath it, so hard plastic feet on smooth tolex would drift even with minor vibrations.

Lightweight heads are also easier to drag off the cab if/when someone (usually me) accidentally trips on your bass instrument cable.

This stuff is brilliant and it works......I always hand this out to the audience sitting near my two Super compacts and my Handbox R400.....stops their beer vibrating of their table..

I replaced all 3 as soon as l bought it from this site second hand. I didn't really want to gig with valves which were already 3 years old so l couldn't compare them tbh.

I should have also added that when I opened up the amp I found that all 3 valves did not have a brand name on them, hence the reason for swapping them out.

did you replace all three or just number one? What diffetence did you notice?

Hey Woody1957, I have had a question from a potentially interested party about how loud this combination goes as the V2 Orange TB is 250W at 8 ohms (apparently it used to be 500W at both 8 and 4 ohms). I haven't used the BareFaced SC outside home so never pushed it, so can I ask you how loud this rig goes? Ta!

Well mate, l use it with one SC cab for band practice and it really is plenty loud enough to keep up. But when gigging with 2 cabs at 4 ohms...well just let's say l could wipe the whole band out....its very, very loud. I play it with tone controls almost flat, volume full up and control how loud l get with the gain control and with the clean switch on. I really love it, its a lovely, portable D class that can get as dirty or as clean as you want too. Hope that helps👍

Here's a random video shot at our gig a couple of weeks ago by the owner of the Quantock Brewery on her mobile phone - you'll have to scroll down a bit btw.  Just the R-400 through a pair of Barefaced SC G3 cabs, nothing else added.  Gain was at 12-o'clock for maximum clean input with bass at 1 o'clock and a touch of contour dialled in.  For what it's worth (which may be nothing 🙂) I've never had my bass come through so well - or even at all - on a mobile-phone recording.  OK, so probably says more about how much the phone technology has come on recently.  I'll get my coat....

The R400 and a couple of Super Compacts is my exact set up with my white MM or my 71 Jazz and l've never had a better sound...ever!
