1. Audacity will do it, and so will Reaper.
2. Well that clarifies things for me, thank you very much all, it's off to the PRS for music site for me I think. Thanks a lot all.
3.
You're best bet for sorting out all the royalty collection agencies and which ones you need to be a member of is to get advice from the MU. That's what they are there for. You are a member aren't you?
Um no?
4.
I think you've misunderstood the "Performance" bit of PRS ! This (mostly, these days) refers to the "performance" of your composition by the CD ! When your track is being broadcast it (the "work") is being "performed". MCPS is the collecting society predominantly for publishers and record companies. My own MCPS returns are quite small as I own only a small percentage of the mechanical copyright. I guess you might have to set up your own publishing company to get the most out of joining MCPS. And yes it's all very confusing. I think I know what I'm talking about - but maybe someone else on here will think otherwise ! The Major
Ah, now I understand - I thought it meant "performed live"! So I suspect I actually need to join both as they both seem to cover slightly different aspects... I think if I do that then I have myself covered either way rather than just signing up with the wrong one!
5. Hmm, well my contract is a non-exclusive one and I actually have full control over content, artwork, writing, blah-de-blah. The company is I think a distributor - (aggregator?). On reading through what you guys have said and upon checking out the PRS website it looks to me like I actually need an MCPS for writers agreement rather than a PRS one as I'm looking at my music being commercially released but not really looking at it being performed live. To be honest I would rather it was PRS because PRS is only a tenner and MCPS is £50 up front!! However to sign up for either you have to have already had something released and whilst I have had that with a previous band I haven't as a solo artiste (lol) yet so it's all a bit moot till the EP/album gets finished and put out there anyway. Thank you for all your help though, the whole royalties thing does seem to be a little confusing for sure.
6. Hi, I'm now in the position of having my own recording contract which is great and all, BUT - I need to sign up with recording rights organisation of some sort. The problem is is that I am not sure who to go with. The record label I am with is a - I guess - distribution label, if you see what I mean. The music I write would be commercially available and might end up being played publicly but is very unlikely to be played live. I've heard BMI are quite good, but then a lot of people say go to PRS as I am a UK citizen. In truth it seems a bit confusing and I would be very grateful of any help any of you guys could provide. Thank you very much!!
7. Thank you for the endorsement! Yeah on the admittedly rare occasions that I actually used it I did find that it had a lovely sound throughout, and very flexible too, given it's relative simplicity and size.
8. Right, Hartke A35 combo bass amp. 35 watts send/return direct out stereo jacks aux input More information can be found here ---> Hartke A35 It has never been gigged, never been outside my studio, and if I'm honest it has barely been used. Being sold due quite simply to the fact that I barely use it, everything is run through amp modellers and an audio interface. Yours for £80 or reasonable near offer. It does not have a box, I do have the instructions somewhere but in fairness, it's a bass amp and I think we all know how they work. PM me if you want it, or are interested. I can supply pix on request. Please not that this is up in a couple of other places as well. Oh yeah, if you live within 10 miles of me I can deliver it, other than that it's pick up only I'm afraid!
9. Rocks. (I'm posting this in the discussion section for the purposes of irony).
10. I've got it and it's bloody good.
11. Whatever else you do or don't do, just remember the holy trinity: Chorus Reverb Compression
12.
I just had a look as this is something i'd like. I found your posts on a couple of forums!! I also found this.
Aye, That's the one I'm gonna look at, got pointed out to me on the Reaper forum. It looks pretty cool and flexible... Thanks all -(the bacon sarnie does sound nice though)...

Vinyliser

Hi, This is an effects question - although not a hardware one. Does anyone out there hapen to know where I could get a VST Vinyliser from? If it's free, so much the better! Cheers in advance, BM.
14. Have I already replied to this? Can't remember. Anyway - go for the Edirol SPS66 - it's great, Firewire is much better for high volume throughput as well.
15. I have left 1 x Zoom 1201 Studio + box + instructions + psu and 1 x Behringer programmable A/B switch £30.00 for both Anyone? Let me know if you want pix.

17.
I know it has sold now but just out of curiosity, does that Red Onion pedal pretty much have the same basic functionality as a Boss LS-2?
Yes mate, that's the one.
18. HI PLEASE NOTE THE RED ONION PEDAL HAS NOW BEEN PROVISIONALLY SOLD. Watch this space for more goodies though...!
19.
PMed
Back attchah!
20. Hi this has now been updated, please see OP for (above) for details.
21.
MCPS and PRS deal with different royalty types. MCPS look after your 'mechanical' royalties (i.e. monies from sales of 'product' - cds, dvds etc) whereas PRS look after your 'performing right' royalties (i.e. monies from live performance, airplay on radio, tv etc). You need to belong to both. BMI may be free but they are based in North America, look after their home talent first and take ages to pass on any royalties from outside the US. If you are UK based and have most gigs and airplay in the UK and Europe with some further afield, you should join PRS/MCPS. PRS has the lowest admin deduction rate of any royalty organisation AND more 'reciprocal agreements' with other societies than any royalty organisation. This means you will receive more money, more often, from more territories... I can't see any benefit to joining BMI....
Thank you. In that case case I shall join both then, probably better to do that than do one and have to do the other one later. It's probably about time anyway, and our record company wants us to... Thanks again for the advice.
22. lol. We actually fit MCPS currently, rather than PRS, which is a pain because MCPS is £50 and PRS is a tenner and looks easier to administer... I know you don't actually have to sign with MCPS if you're record company is a member, but they're american so I doubt whether they are! Oh well £50 it is then - you have to spend money to make money, mind you we could join both I suppose - that might be better. Then again BMI is free!!
