I unfortunately cannot afford this and I am sorry to see you sell it but for anyone interested in it I can say that Dingwalls are truly awesome and fanned frets are not only easy to adapt to but very quickly feel better than the norm.

I have the pickups out of a squire precision special (PJ) if the P is any use to you. I may even have the rest of the electronics but they will need a good rewire.
PM me if these are any use. -
I quite liked the few I played but I would recommend keeping an eye out for a 55-02 second hand as you can pick them up relatively cheap and they are awesome basses.

you b*gger, I keep half an eye on the Glasgow Gumtree waiting for something like this. Seriously though well done on the lucky wee buy.

Orange is pure ROCK! Doesn't do much else mind you but has one hell of a rocking tone

I had a look at Jan's link, just looking for a few pointers before I take a trip to B&Q

truly intrigued by the bucket/tea chest bass idea, any advice on building one?
-
I use my OTB with an attenuator from studio spares, cost me around £5 I think and works great, love the amp.
-
there is one band around Glasgow who busk with a bass but I have never looked at what there amp setup is
-
^yup but I cant afford a double bass, if I could I would.
-
I have an acoustic bass but they are very quiet, mine even more so since it is strung with flatwounds rather than acoustic strings. Even with the acoustic strings you couldn't hear it over guitar never mind guitar, percussion and vocals
-
I wish I could afford a micro cube, they look perfect for what I am wanting but my budget is currently as close to zero as possible.
-
Thought there might be issues like that...for what it is worth and the hassle involved think I will sit this busking session out unless I find a reasonable cheap solution by the 19th
-
are there better options?

I have been asked to busk for oxjam with my band and need a way of powering my rig.
Found this on maplin's site, would this be any good to power an amp?
I would be using a little 10 or 20W peavey practice amp since the others and unplugged so volume is not an issue.
I may at some point however decide to use this with my Orange bass terror and barefaced midget rig, I know this is more than 200W but would it be ok to use if I didnt turn it up too high?
Thanks guys

Keep an eye out for a Peavey Black Widow, probably the best really cheap cab you can pick up
-
Thanks, yeah slight contrast was the plan, kind of a semi-lined fretless.
-
Thanks. Will get used to playing it (first fretless) and then post a few clips

I acquired a Harley Benton bass in a trade recently, took a bit of setting up but it is not a bad instrument. An acoustic bass is of some use to me as I play in an acoustic riot/folk punk style band but I tried it out fretted and whilst fun it didn't quite give me the sound I wanted. I really want a double bass but I have neither the funds or the time to learn so my cunning plan was to defret the acoustic and string it with a set of flats I had lying around. Have to say I am pleased with the results.
here's the bass

I started out with pliers and a soldering iron to heat them but the frets where so badly fitted they popped out just using a knife

The grooves weren't cut to the edge of the neck and were uneven, to make the edges visible as a playing guide and to make gluing in the filling veneer easier I extended each slot

I used black walnut veneer (a whole £1 from ebay) to fill these slots. For anyone else trying this make sure the grain is parallel no perpendicular to the neck, makes trimming much easier (learn from my mistake)

I trimmed these back with a scalpel and then sanded them flush with the fretboard careful not to affect the radius

To finish it I applied three coats of Danish oil using an old t-shirt, letting it cure for at least 4hrs between coats and finishing it with 000 wire wool

Applied a couple of coats to the bridge too to keep it matching the fretboard

Strung with d'addario chromes and setup tweaked I am happy with the result, sounds not to disimilar to a double bass and is easy enough to play.
Next step is to find out what the hell is rattling around the machine heads and fix that then file down the saddle height a little. -
Late to the party but I have been looking at this for a current project and there is a guy on ebay selling radius blocks
-
It is a great head, I sold it to him I should know

Orange Terror Bass is bloody fantastic with my midget. Sounds great and easy to transport. Can only imagine it would sound even better with the 15"
12" Cabs

Barefaced are great, I have a midget (1x12) and that gives some serious oomf and low end so I can only imagine how nice the super twelve is.
